Luckily, here at OU the administration knows that if they start any sporting event before 2:00pm on the weekends, there is little to no chance of many students showing up to the games. 2:00 is late enough for me to blow off my Friday night hangover and early enough that it doesn't intrude on my Saturday night pre-gaming.  (I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks this way)

I stayed at a friend's house by tOSU's campus last year for the Ohio game there and was a bit surprised when I was shaken awake at 9:30 and told it was time to start drinking for the noon kickoff. Because sports are so popular there, they can start games at any hour and know that the students will show up in droves.

Understandably, having another ESPNU game here at OU is great pub, and they are in their own right to start the game at a time they can fit it in to their television schedule.  What's going to be sad is that I have a feeling the ozone and overall crowd is going to be a shell of its former self because of the early start time.  It's too bad the Miami game couldn't have been on TV instead.

Not worth complaining over what you can't control.  I can control however, if I choose to go to the game or not.  And I may be one of less than 200 students that go, but I'll be there, and cheering loud.

Since the game is at 11, someone mentioned a while back that students might show up in their pajamas... so why not make that a promotion.  Students encouraged to wear their pajamas and bar stamps.  I can't do all the thinking, people!

So wait, students can't get out of bed at 10:15am to get to The Convo after going to bed at say, 4am?  Six hours of sleep, with plenty of afternoon to take a nap is a hard life.  Let's be real - those that want to be there will get out of bed and be there.  I'm 35 years old - I get out of bed to play soccer games at 8am on Sundays with hangovers sometimes.  If I can do it, a 20 year can do it.   Add to that, as bornacat has pointed out in a previous thread, every other school that's part of the 11am ESPNU tip off has managed to do it, and have a decent crowd.  Instead of making excuses as to why students CAN'T get out of bed early enough for this game, how about making reasons for why people be at this game?

-We're 16-4.  Don't know when that happened last in OUr first 20 games, but it doesn't occur every year.
-We're usually a lot of fun to watch.
-We win games at home often - in case seeing a winning team is priority in life for some
-And my #1 reason for students, as I've said since I was a freshman at OU:  It's 2 1/2 hours of  FREE ENTERTAINMENT!

Hate to say it, but there will be virtually no students at this game. My son's a recent OU grad and I know firsthand that students don't even THINK about getting up until noon most Saturdays. And despite national TV and a free rally towel, they're not coming to the Convo to watch us play Ball State. Wish it was different, but that's one of the downsides of being the #1 party school in the nation.

Hey, I'm not complaining about it being too early for me, either way I have to be down in Racine to ref some biddie ball at 9:30 so I can't make it regardless, I'm just saying it's too bad we couldn't get another TV game that would properly show our student support. I think the pajamas and bar bracelets idea is amazing and I could see alot of students doing it if it we're advertised.  It would be even better if Broneys or Red Brick would open up early for kegs and eggs like they do for homecoming.

If you were a real party school, you would stay up all night and then come to the game. Lightweights. Did that for work more than once. Surely you can make it for one game.

The idea that 11:00 is too early to get up and watch sports makes me have less confidence in today's generation of 18-25 year olds than I thought I ever could.  If you are unable to balance partying and other extracurricular activities, how in the world are you going to live a balanced life when you get out of school?

I would rather the students say they just are not interested in attending the game at all than telling us that it is too early.  I will probably go to bed at 1 or 2 Friday night like I do every other night of the week.  We will be there in plenty of time for tipoff.  Those that do not learn how to balance their free time in college will be the same ones that will completely check out of their social lives in 10 years because their kids play soccer.  Either figure out how to balance your lives now or you will resent your lives from the ages of 30-50.  Trust me, I have a ton of former friends that just "don't have time" anymore.

If it wasn't for working til noon, I'd be there but come on folks, 11 am is too early??  Really?  Look at Kent State, they play in the 24 hours of basketball and have a decent crowd at 6 am!!  I agree, stay up all night, hit a decent breakfast place like Court Street Diner, and head over to the game.  Then go home and sleep six hours and then it's time to get going for Saturday night.  These kids sit here and complain about having to go to a basketball game at 11am when I will be up at 7 getting ready for work.  Guess what, I will trade anyone of those kids to come to work for me and I will go enjoy the greatest game ever invented by one of the best colleges ever.  Stupid brats!!  They are WEAK!!!

Sorry if you felt it was directed at you GreenBleeder.  I have always been frustrated by the excuses people make to not do something.  I love your idea about kegs 'n eggs for this.  I can't do it - I'm bringing my buddy and his 4 year old, but otherwise, it would be a superb fit for my day.

Gotta work in Laurelville until noon, but I have no idea why 11 am would be too hard for students to make after a night of partying.

Going to be a long nite Friday but you bet I will get there from Muncie for 10 am doors open +3 . Sheesh. You either support your school or not. Put up or shut up. You want big time basketball, time and money is required. Get on board folks.

I like the pj party theme......for the record....letws all those schools who are watching how hard we woprk at keeping Athens at the top of the list of party schools in addition to supporting OUr teams. I try to contribute to both causes regularly.

I agree with the balance. I have mong lived a life balancing doing EVERYTHING I want to.... I can sleep when I am dead.

I'll be there standing in the Ozone but I'm not expecting a lot of people there. I feel like our crowds have been decent this year but we have a lot more students in the Ozone that are less passionate or know less about the team than normal. I think a lot of this has been a result of students just coming because we've had a lot more promotions than normal.

These types of students will never show up to a game at 11am. They simply don't care enough to wake up a little earlier than normal on a Saturday morning to attend a basketball game.

I wish that wasn't the case but I am expecting a Western Michigan type crowd on Saturday. If it was an afternoon game, I'd expect a lot more, but MAC teams will do anything for exposure.

Wait a minute.  Shouldn't they be getting HOME around 11 am after partying all night?

Schaus and company are the best in the league, as seen in last week's turnstile success.  So I'm very surprised/disappointed they didn't do something special to drive student attendance this week - special breakfast/ concert in the Convo, students cook pancakes for the community event, spring break trip giveaway, tie-in to Greek organizations, etc.  Really surprised.
