211 to 84 ?!?  That's a crazy score.

Haven't seen anything that high since the days of Loyola Marymount with Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble.

The most LMU ever scored were 149.

It was really a surreal thing to watch, and I've watched a lot of their games that get like 175 or 185 points. They don't even move up and down the floor so much as keep five guys individually spaced out across the court who never move. The guy at the back end rebounds (because the teams they play are inevitably incapable of scoring even five-on-one) and then they weave or pass it up to the cherry-picking guy who hits a three or drives to draw a foul.

As of October 2010, Loyola Marymount held the five highest combined score games in Division I history, including a record 331 in the 181–150 win over US International University on January 31, 1989.

Great to see your article on there as a contributer!

I stand corrected. I had no idea those games were so manic.

I appreciated the CAT ON THE PITCH ALERT very much, as well.

It made my day how no one tried to go pick it up as if it were a mountain lion and not to be disturbed.

That LMU team was fantastic to watch.  If you haven't seen the "Guru of Go", the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary about that team, you should watch it.

Gathers was only the 2nd player to ever lead the NCAA in scoring AND rebounding in the same season. with 32.7 ppg and 13.7 rpg in 1989 (Junior season).  Xavier McDaniel (Wichita St., '85) was the 1st.  Only been done once since, Kurt Thomas (TCU, '95).

Gathers averaged only 29.0 ppg his senior season (1990), while Bo Kimble picked up the slack with 35.3 ppg.  Their # 3 scorer, Jeff Fryer, averaged 22.7 ppg.

LMU's scoring average the 3 years that Gather and Kimble played there:
1988, 110.3 ppg
1989, 112.5 ppg
1990, 122.4 ppg
