I disagree with this "joke" statement only because coming to the Big East has elevated some of the programs that are involved in it now. Why couldn't that happen for a few of the new schools? UCF is already pretty good and could get better by just having the TV exposure of being in the Big East.
I do agree with the loss of the regional feel, but that situation got screwed up years ago when the NCAA lost control of it's member institutions. The joke in this scenario is the way that the NCAA runs it's business, and allows football to run the rest of their sports solely out of greed. The simple truth is that the powers that be, including the big conferences, and the NCAA, or allowing football to rule and ruin the rest of college athletics. THAT is the joke if you ask me. From the standpoint of a conference setup making sense to all student athletes and fans, I agree that the MAC is a better situation.
Here's a plan: Ditch the Michigan schools, and add Marshall. Go to a 10 team league...oh wait we can't because again, football is too "important". Makes me feel sick.
I do agree that it's time for the MAC to begin to look more strategically at the teams in the conference. There's at least one school who brings nearly nothing to the table for the conference athletically speaking. Marshall would be a fine upgrade for a number of reasons. Don't assume they won't want to come. The CUSA has fallen apart. I also wouldn't assume that Ohio doesn't look attractive to go to the proposed conference highlighted above. Good athletics, good academics. We have a fan following that buys tickets. Closest to Columbus. All good things to consider.
If Marshall wanted to come back (which they probably don't), I would support that move. Other than that, I'm happy staying put. Edit: Temple can go somewhere else, for the sole purpose of getting that douche MH to permanently vacate this message board.
