If Offut an Kellog can keep their hot shooting from the last two games going, look out.

For a change, Ohio won't have the best rebounding guard on the floor. Unless you've been watching UT games or reading me, you probably don't know about Rian Pearson. The 6'4" sophomore transfer from Green Bay should be one of the leading candidates for Player of the Year. He's shooting 50% from the field, averages 7.6 rebounds a contest to go with 1.8 assists and steals a piece.

Looked at Pearson's numbers - Impressive.  Toledo seems to score points, but do they play defense?

I did watch the Buffalo-Toledo game.  It appeared that Toledo did play good defense inside, but did not go to get the outside shooters.  I see us doing the same thing as we did against CMU, a lot of 3's , but try to get the ball to IVO.  Buffalo took advantage inside the latter part of 2nd half.  Toledo likes to drive and bounce pass inside and rebound 2nd chances. They ran the weave on the outside to shorten the clock and then pass to the corner for a 3 or go inside.  They do foul frequently. My impression was that Buffalo was very lazy during thr 1st half.

Their proximity to a small but quite impressive art museum makes this a strange but nice trip every year.

And yes, I am the only one in the TMA with a green hoodie on.

Looks like Toledo has improved where it's competitive against good teams in spurts, but can't sustain it for a game. Let's keep that going.

The Rockets played hard last year and the talent level continues to improve. As these guys get more time together they will get better. I wouldn't be surprised if Toledo won a game or two in the upcoming MAC tournament. And, with us at 19-4 everyone we play will give us their best shot. I look for a battle tomorrow night.

OT: That museum is awesome... they really do have a lot of impressive art for a small city. I've been there a couple times as an adult, but when I was a kid, we lived about a half hour away from Toledo and my elementary school went there a lot on field trips. The mummy was always the highlight of those trips.

I haven't gone since I was a kid. I might appreciate it more now.

  • Our advantage over Toledo is that they like to try to push the pace and I can see us deflecting some passes, getting steals and getting out in transition.
  • I think Ohio is deeper, so that could come in to play in the second half.
  • I think we match up pretty well with Toledo size wise.
  • Where Toledo might have an advantage is in fouling and free throw shooting.  They get to the line more than their opponents and they make a nice 73.3% of their shots.  Ohio has to be careful to avoid a plethora of fouls and seeing UT march to the line through the whole game.
I respect the talent that Toledo has and how they've improved over last year, but I like the way we match up with them.  It will take a very good effort on our part, but I think this is a winnable game.

Not much chatter on the Rocket Pad about the game.

These two road games will be important for us.  Toledo is improving and EMU is one of the better West teams; both on the road.  It would be great to pick up these road wins before round two in the East.

Two thoughts here:  One - if OUr team was as bad record-wise as Toledo, I'd guess there would be less chatter on here about this game too.  Maybe I'm not giving us enough credit.  Two - I think I said it before, but if OUr guys are going to win the MAC East, or at least one of the top three seeds, these two games are musts, not  "great to pick up road wins".

Okay, more than two.  I like Jeff's overview of how we match-up in this one.  Somehow, I feel like Walt will take on the challenge of shutting down the MAC's scoring leader.  I have greater concern about going to EMU only because they slow the game down so much.  It's amazing to me that a team can be one of the best defensive teams, yet the absolute worst offensive team in the league.

I believe if we win both the next two games, we should get one of the top 4 seeds.  Honestly, this game scares me and so does Buffalo.  But being 10 man deep on the team, I don't know how we can't win.  Even win out!!

Opened at 6.5 but it's up to 7.5 now.  Buffalo and Kent games following similar paths with East spreads getting bigger.  Strangely Akron opened as a 2.5 favorite and only one casino has shown any movement (-3.5).  Head scratcher line of the day is BG opening as a 4 point dog at Ball State.

Tonight is huge with all East teams on the road, I feel like some are gonna falter.  Very possible that Akron/Buffalo/Kent/BG lose and we win and are riding high.  Also very possible they all win, we lose and are on suicide watch.  I'll be scoreboard watching tonight big time.

Yeah, that probably came across the wrong way.  I was just noting how important it is to continue to beat teams we should beat, at home or on the road.

I was thinking the same thing the other day when looking at the schedule.  Buff at CMU, Akron at Western, Kent at EMU.  Gotta think one of those Michigan schools could get a win.  Preferably all three.

Depends what you're looking to accomplish. For any rating system, it'd be benficial to Ohio for the East to win every game against the West since Ohio plays all of the East team's twice and the West teams once. Of course, in terms of standings, Ohio will take any loss from the East team to get separation, but it'd be best for the Bobcats to just win out and let the other East teams beat each other.
