He's six away from breaking Dink Whitaker's assist record. He's only 19 steals away from that record as well.  Pretty darn impressive considering we still haven't reached even the end of  the regular season in his junior year.

Way to go, D.J.!!!

Should we start a poll on whether he'll break one or both records before the year is out or will he have to wait until next year?

I would think he will break the assists record this week.  The steals record will be achievable this season as well, assuming we play in at least 5 more games, DJ will need to average 4 steals a game to get there...

I truly believe that a good number of our fans don't realize what they are seeing with him.

I totally agree with you. I think most of our fans know that he is good but I think only a few realize how special he truly is. It has been amazing to watch him so far during his three years at Ohio.

Just think, he'll have over 2,000 points, be the all time leader in steals and assists at Ohio, has 1 MAC Championship already, and an NCAA Tournament win in his time at Ohio.

That's some impressive stuff. Plus, he still has two more opportunities to help lead Ohio to the tourney and we have a a chance to set an Ohio record for wins in a season this year.

While not all of this is because of DJ (a lot of great teammates as well), a lot of the credit should go to him as the team's leader and it will be amazing to see what this team does in the next few weeks and next year under Cooper.

Gary Payton
Sherman Douglas

That's it.

No Division 1 player has ever eclipsed 2,000 points and 1000 assists.

DJ currently sits at 1449 points and 646 assists.

I think at times it is hard to appreciate how good DJ is when you see him at times not playing up to his potential.  The thing is with DJ is that we all hate his 3s at some point, but when they are falling we love them.   Other times we wonder why he isn't driving into the lane or doing a better job at distributing the ball.  All this is because his superior play has made us want more out of him, just like you do from any star player for a team.  So as that star player you will always live in a what did you do for me today world because the expectations will always be high and when you are gone is almost always when you will be truly appreciated.

Even though I still have high hopes for this year, it is next year where I really get excited, with DJ as a senior surrounded by starters he has played with for 2 or 3 years.  This year has shown their potential to be a dominating team on both sides of the ball.  My hope is either down this stretch or early next year they put it all together and become a consistently dominating team against any opponent they play.  And if that happens DJ will be able to bask in the appreciation we will show him and end his career on the highest of highs.

One thing he has a very possible shot at is breaking into the NCAA top ten in all-time steals. He's sitting at 241 and needs 102 to top Devan Downey (remember him? schooled Jeremy Fears when we played at UC in '05), who currently is in 10th place. Bonzi Wells is the MAC leader in steals at 347, so that's a possibility, too.

With DJ and Mr. Taylor we certainly have a pair of very good guards.  I agree that DJ is a very special player.  I'm as guilty as many with criticizing his shot selection sometimes.  On Sunday there were at least two occasions when he jacked up NBA+ three attempts that I said out loud to my wife -- no, no, no . . . until the ball swished through the net and then I said -- YES, YES, YES!  Such is the fickleness of some fans.

When was it--just a couple of weeks ago that DJ ended a game on the bench with what looked like a badly injured wrist?!  Thank goodness not.

Also overlooked? His durability. I don't think I was alone in wondering if a guy at his size wouldn't get banged up with his knack for keeping his dribble amongst the giants. Not only is he a great player, but he's sinewy and tough going to the basket with great  body control to shield himself from the brunt of that contact.

You guys are right we are all so hard on DJ but Wow what a point guard he is! Ohio has had some good players to pair with him but seriously has there been a Zeller,Sullinger,Henson,Rivers type guy sinces he's been at Ohio..well other than the guy who just went in the rafters there has been none and DJ is still excelling. Not to down the other players but they are all pieces of a big puzzle not the puzzle lol.

Thanks. I recall  last season one of the women reached this feat. I immediately looked up DJs post soph season stats. On pace. Only one ever. Thats when I realized we really had something here. I'd be thrilled if he hoisted a few less NBA depth 3s, but if 20ish shots in a season are all I have to gripe about, that is something special.
