Time for a shout-out for number 21.

Does anyone play harder than Jon Smith on this team? In the MAC?

Diving for loose balls, scrapping for every possession, right place/right time for easy baskets, making a dude who's a half-foot taller have a quiet game, staying out of trouble AFAIK.

It's working.

Even my mother-in-law noticed he plays HARD.

In my viewing from afar and not in person, it looks like Goard puts maximum effort as well.  He seems to come out of nowhere to grab a loose ball, get a hand into the passing lanes, or clean up on the boards.  Very impressive.

I think a lot of our guys play hard. I was impressed with David McKinley diving on the floor for a loose ball in the last minute when the play ultimately wasn't going to mean anything whatsoever in the outcome. I think this game, especially, the Bobcats outhustled their opponent.

I said this in another thread.  Smith really does a great job of anticipating where the ball is going so he maintains good positioning.  The opponents bigs really have to work their tails off.

I think we are really starting to see Goard develop into a very special player.  Watching his progression this season has been a treat and I think the coaching staff has done an outstanding job developing over the season.  His progress is well beyond what I thought it would be.  I wasn't expecting to see much out of him until next season, but I see it happening now.  His progress and our staff's confidence in him now is huge as we make the stretch run and enter post season play.  I truly believe he is developing into a star for us.  I fully expect to see a bigger, faster, stonger Goard that is ready to play significant minutes if not threaten for a starting spot next season.

I think the future is bright for him!

But I thought none of our bigs develop with our coaching staff of dwarves and midgets?

Also, Smith rotated beautifully last night.

I agree with PF's original assertion.  Additionally, I think Smith may be our best overall defensive player with his tremendous ability to anticipate where the ball is going, his very quick reactions, and his work ethic.  This is not taking away anything for some of our other good defensive guys, but Smith stands out to me as a man's man on defense.

I agree, I wouldn't be surprised if Goard "pulled a Baltic" and broke out his sophomore year.
