Fiami got their wish New Coach thread

The Annual FIre Hawkins thread has been up for a while

NIU content

CMU  with the annual onslaught of anti Zieg fans getting their words in..

>This joke of a coach can't ever see that the program is what he has made it.  He built the roster.  He hired the assistant coaches.  He planned the practices.  He developed the game plans.  He made the in game adjustments.  He made the halftime adjustments.Yet, the second straight 21 loss season in a row is not his fault.

>The excitement in this program is certainly long gone. As you say, that's something to consider too. Put an extra 1,000 paying customers in the seats for 15 home games and EZ's termination clause would be paid for in one season.A head coaching change would provide some hope and excitement  for the fans and the University.  There is no guarantee that a new coach would do any better, but at least the hope would be there, and we certainly couldn't do any worse.  We would have some thing to look forward to next season.  As long as EZ is at the helm, we seem to have little hope.  We know what we are going to get with EZ, and we aren't excited about it.

I think it is likely he will be back, which is really sad for the entire CMU community.

EZ not only has not been effective as a coach he has really been a very negative personality to boot.

>Heeke probably could have convinced him to resign last year after the "bus" incident but EZ weathered that storm and I would not even be surprised to see Dave give him another extension after this stellar season afterall he did whip west champ EMU twice...I thought EZ lead us to a total underachieving year based even on the talent he was left with after his whinning about those that were gone.  As A10 stated he is responsible for the state of the program totally!!!  It is exactly where he lead it.

>Heeke has to decide if CMU can afford to buy EZ out. When you consider that part of each ticket sold is used to pay for the arena renovation , and only 958 people show up for a WMU game , can CMU afford to keep him ? The men's BB program is at an all time low with nothing to be optimistic about.

>Wow, only 958 in attendance for WMU (thankfully, quite a few Bronco supporters came for what they thought was going to be a huge Bronco win like last season)!  Even though the CMU students were mostly gone from campus, this number is ridiculous! If the students (and fans) had any “connection” whatsoever with the MBB team, many would have stayed an extra day to watch “their” Chippewas play their biggest rival on the Friday before spring break! CMU has played WMU on this same date for the last several seasons and the attendance has been dwindling each season! Thus, the students and fans are “talking” with their feet and from the numerous “talk” I hear daily: a great number of former contributors to the MBB team have switched their donations to other sport teams. Thus, many are “talking” with their $$$$$$, as well

Buffalo not crying for a head
but definitely not in love anymore

Even the newly crowned COY at EMU has a detractor amidst the congrats.

RE: Congrats to the Coach of the Year!
Some of you might want to hold the congratulations, sounds like Syracuse is in deep trouble for violations that were committed while Mr. Murhpy was an assistant. A Yahoo sports investigation has uncovered violations to NCAA drug testing policies, several legal and displinary problems in the years Mr. Murphy was an assistant as well as previous investigations that revealed illegal loan payments to a player's uncle. Most of you will blame Boeheim but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Murphy is bad news for EMU. A winning basketball program at what cost, he is not a leader of men and he has no moral compass. Read some of the articles, not good.

Interestingly quiet here for a few minutes, days.....

Sounds like CMU should do like Miami and show EZ the door.

EMU just needs to chill out for a sec and wait for that whole Syracuse mess to come out.  My initial guess is that the problems there and the blame should head right up to the top of the food chain, Penn State style.

Ball State and BG are probably going to hang onto to their coaches for at least another year, although I think BSU should hire Bruce Pearl.  The show-cause could be that they need anything they can get their hands on to excite that place up a bit.

Any haters in Buffalo just need to dunk their head in a bucket of ice water, they have nothing to complain about right now, sitting in the 2-seed.

You could insert TOS for Witherspoon in that thread and I could find an almost identical thread on here.

Nice comprehensive list of coaches in that thread.  As much as Charlie was respected, I have to believe that their program can be a little better now that he's retired.

The poor schmucks in Buffalo really need to chill out on the get rid of Reggie talk until the MAC tournament ends.  They've had a pretty good year.

And the folks at EMU should bother to come to support their program and their university before saying the coach needs to go.

Can it though?  They have one of the lowest budgets in the MAC and their fanbase is a joke.  They are closer to the EMU's and NIU's of the world in attendance and atmospheres than they are even Kent or Akron.  They like to blame Charlie but at the end of the day we have all the same excuses they do for not going to games.

None of that seems to matter much to mid-major recruits OUVan.  Witness Miami Football playing in 3 MAC Championship games in the last 8 years and winning it in 2010.  Their football crowds and atmosphere stinks as well.

Kind of sad actually.  I'd rather see them packing it in.  I guess their students are too cool for this stuff.

Most Miami people I know around the Jackson area have an almost perverse pride in not caring for "lowbrow" athletics.

Both Good points.  I've never been able to understand why Miami doesn't draw better (other than that dreadful arena).  They have so many alumni in the Cincinnati/Hamilton/Fairfield areas.

They weren't always underfunded though and they had a lot of history to carry them for while. That is gone. In the last 5 seasons they are 25-50.  Almost 50% of those wins came in one year.   IMO their lack of funding is coming home to roost.

Good point.  I could see Miami throwing out a conference-leading salary to a hoops coach though.

I hope they do.  The conference really needs them to be good.  It really hurts when one of the standard bearers for the league is woefully underfunded.
