Wow Mavunga damn near won the thing.  That would've been a surprise.

Given the level of talent surrounding Mavunga, he would have gotten my vote. I can't argue with Watt though.

Can't argue either of those choices.

Disagree with everyone. Pearson should have won POY. Watt and Mavunga could have split 2nd, but using all arguments (most valuable, lack of talent, numbers) - I would not have voted against Pearson.

I'm not sure anyone watched Witherspoon coach his team out of 3-5 wins this year, but whoever voted for him is smoking dope.

Dambrot was the clear cut COY, as much as it pains me to say it. Groce 2nd. Murphy, Reggie, and Orr could divvy up the 3rd, 4th, and 5th place votes.

Grandfather of the year is pretty obviously a 1 horse race.

This may be a good sign.

The last U@B POY winner was Turner Battle in 2005.

Murphy and Watt are solid choices, IMO.

The problem is that nobody really deserved MAC POY.  Watt is a good player but IMO not even the best player on his team.   There were four players that I watched this year and thought they were real difference makers.  Pearson, D.J., McCrae and Marshall (just on defensive end for Zeke).   Again, Watt is solid but if I'm designing a defense to stop Buffalo it starts with McCrae and Filson.  I'd be willing to bet that Watt isn't even unanimous 1st team All-MAC.

Can't we come up with a way to have more than 24 voters?  That seems pretty low to me.

Perhaps like a skins game in golf we could have rolled this one over to next year?

Not my first choice. Improved but not much respect for his game. At least he isn't basing his game as much on cheap shots this year. Greene pissed it away, Mavunga performed but has not been able to contribute much to a winning effort, no one from the west stepped up at all. No one has stood out from the crowd. I thought the league had hit a low when Kool got the nod....this is sad.

If Miami has a better year, Mavunga gets the award.  No knock on Watt, but I think Mavunga is a better player.

Kool wasn't even the worst.  DeAndre Haynes wouldn't even get 2nd team MAC in many years.  Romeo Travis was the third best player on his team. We haven't had a worthy POY since Turner Battle.  I still think the fact that Leon didn't win the award one of the biggest travesties in recent memory.

As others have said, no real good choice. No one had super outstanding numbers and some of the players who had the best numbers were on sub-.500 teams.

Watt was fourth in the league in scoring (but only .6 out of first) and fourth in rebounding. MAC play only he was second in scoring. He also shot 55 percent

Mavunga was first in scoring and rebounding overall, but he was a forward who shot 44 percent.

In Pearson, you have a guard who was third in rebounding and second in scoring (1st in MAC-only play). He shot 48 percent. But he wasn't much of an outside shooter.

Jarrod Jones and Trey Ziegler, of course, put up big numbers on bad teams. Last year's winner Justin Greene was ninth in the league in scoring and it's conceivable he might not be a first-team pick.

D.J. Cooper's numbers from last year probably would have won it this year, but his scoring is down about 2 points per game, his rebounds about 1 per game, his assists about 2 and he shot 34 percent.

It will be interesting to see which guys get first team.

I would think the fact that he's a dick cost him some votes.

Consider me part of the pro-Kool krowd. Don't agree with the hate for him.

It is. Used to be more, but Elton Alexander made a power play a couple years ago and restricted the voting rights to people he approved.

Here's how Watts and Cooper performed in their two head to head games-

Watts-
1st game- 18pts, 12rebs, 1blk
2nd game- 19pts, 7rebs, 3assts, 2blk

Cooper-
first game- 15pts, 7rebs, 5assts, 1blk, 1stl
second game- 20pts, 3rebs, 8assts, 4stl

pretty close statistically, and its a small sample size, but I'd have to give the edge to Cooper given his overall impact on the game.
