Site has the Bobcats now listed as "solid in" for now.  Has us a 5th seed and perhaps a strong finish  gets us a top seed in the NIT with a home game. Could be some real exciting opponnets in the NIT for us. Cincinnati, Xavier, Dayton, PItt, West  Virginia, Cleveland State and Marshall could be in the NIT field.   Looks like the defending chumps UConn will be in the NIT......they lost to Providence and 7-10 in the Big East.....that smells NIT. Offcourse Bobcats would be glad to send Akron to NIT and win the MAC Tournament and upset the Buckeyes in the  first round.

March 17-25, I don't know what the NIT schedule's like then, the first game might be during finals week, all I know is that those two weekends are the first four rounds of the Dance.

NIT First Round 3/13-3/14, Second Round 3/15-3/19, Quarterfinals 3/20-2/21.  No chance of hosting a game during regular, full-campus classes.

Yeah, I thought the soonest they'd play is finals week, but at least students will be there.

Would OU have to turn down a host game if it interferes with the high school tournament?

I imagine there could be some flexibility between the high school tournaments and the NIT scheduling that would allow for both to happen if needed.

Last year Dayton was a 2 seed (or maybe a 3) in the NIT and was sent on the road to the College of Charleston for the first round (which they lost) because the game was scheduled the same night as the NCAA First Four.  I wouldn't expect much flexability from the NIT's side.

EDIT:  The bracket project has us as a #3 in the NIT right now...

Ohio loses and Buffalo wins over Akron.  That didn't help us in the MAC or NIT seeding.

I know logically that there is no correlation but doesn't it seem like even the slightest RPI/at-large/NITology talk on this messageboard is closely follow by a loss?  Perhaps such talk should be banned.

Banning speech talk from one of our First Amendment buffs?  The times they must be desperate.

After tonight's game I can't really blame you for the suggestion, though.  And, after all, this ain't no free speech haven.  Right, Jeff?

No government action taking place on BA so speech rights are nonexistent.

If anyone still cares about this thread, the site updated its projected bracket today. We're still a 5 seed predicted to play a first round game at LSU.

Fitting as Southeastern Ohio boy and honorary OHIO alumnus Wm. Tecumseh Sherman was the first president of LSU.

Tourney games get shifted around every year, OHSAA seems to be pretty flexible (at least as much as they can) if you tell them they have to move stuff.  I feel like OHSAA stuff had to be shifted in 2010 for a first round MAC tourney game.

I'm not sure what would have happened had OU had to play a home game this Monday. 3 games would have had to been rescheduled with no open days until next Sunday.  Would they have moved every game back a day?  Irrelevant now, but that wold be my guess.

Rooting for Akron is like cheering on the Taliban.

I grant you, I'm a Bearcat fan after I'm a Bobcat fan, so I'm biased.  UC finished fourth in the Big East and should almost be guaranteed an at-large at this point.  I don't see them in the NIT.

I HOPE I don't see the Bobcats in the NIT because they're holding the trophy on this coming Saturday night.

Doing a little analysis.  If what these sites say is true there are 16 teams behind us in the seedings.   There are 32 conferences and the NIT promises each regular season champ that if they do not get an NCAA bid they will get an NIT invite.  Of the 32 regular season champs, 16 have either already won their conference tourney or are shoe-ins to get NCAA bids.

Tourney Champs
Belmont
UNC-Asheville
Harvard*
Murray State
Davidson
St. Mary's

At-large Shoe-in
Temple
UNC
Kansas
Syracuse
tOSU
Memphis
Wichita State
Washington
Kentucky
New Mexico

Of the 16 remaining teams, only 5 have already lost in their conference tournaments and aren't guaranteed a spot.

Lost Conference Tourney
Drexel
Valpo
Iona
Oral Roberts
Middle Tennessee

Of these I think Drexel has a shot at getting at at-large.  The other four are almost assuredly going NIT. Two of those (Iona, Middle Tenn) were already ranked ahead of us in the Nitology so they aren't a threat to grab one of the 16 spots available behind us. That leaves 11 teams still in their conference tournaments that could lose and grab an NIT bid.

Still Allive for NCAA
Stony Brook (in finals vs Vermont on Saturday)
Montana (finals tonight vs Weber State)
Long Beach State (tourney starts tomorrow, strong at large candidate)
Utah Valley (tourney starts tomorrow)
Akron (semis Friday)
Savannah State (play in quarters vs Hampton tonight)
LIU (in finals vs Bobby Mo tonight)
Bucknell (in finals vs Lehigh tonight)
UT-Arlington (tourney starts tonight)
Mississippi Valley State (tourney starts tonight)
Nevada (tourney starts tomorrow

So IMO we stand a pretty good chance of getting an NIT bid if we happen to fall short this weekend.

Thanks for the analysis OU Van.  Let's hope your logic isn't needed to begin with, but if it is, let's hope it's right.

OV, can you further define "fall Short?" does that inculde a loss in the quarter finals, or are you talking about taking an L in the chip?

I meant fall short of an NCAA bid.  My analysis only is looking at us getting knocked out of an NIT bid based on the predictions of Nitology and the Bracket Projects projections.  I just wanted to see what needed to happen for us to fall out.  I make no claims about the accuracy of these projections.

Here is an update after last night's action.

Two more conference champions bit the dust last night (Savannah State & Bucknell) and grab NIT autobids.  Two other conference champions (Montana & LIU) took care of business and won their tourneys.

Tourney Champs
Belmont
UNC-Asheville
Harvard*
Murray State
Davidson
St. Mary's
LIU
Montana

At-large Shoe-in
Temple
UNC
Kansas
Syracuse
tOSU
Memphis
Wichita State
Washington
Kentucky
New Mexico

Lost Conference Tourney
Drexel
Valpo
Iona
Oral Roberts
Middle Tennessee
Bucknell
Savannah State

Still Allive for NCAA
Stony Brook (in finals vs Vermont on Saturday)
Long Beach State (tourney starts today, strong at large candidate)
Utah Valley (tourney starts today)
Akron (semis Friday)
UT-Arlington (won opening round game)
Mississippi Valley State (won opening round game)
Nevada (tourney starts today)

I should add that I started looking at last year's tourament as a way to check the accuracy of the Nitology and Bracket Project's predictions.  In particular I wanted to see if the Big 6 guys got preferential treatment in bids.  What I found wasn't that Bigs got bids preferentially but they got ridiculous seeding advantages. Using RPI as a base here is what I found.  Overseeded means that they received a seed higher than their RPI ranking would suggest. Underseeded means they received a seed lower than their RPI ranking would suggest.

Overseeded
+4 Alabama (1 vs 5)
+3 Washington State (2 vs 5)
+2 Virginia Teach (1 vs 3)
+2 Colorado (1 vs 3)
+2 Miami (FL) (2 vs 4)
+2 Northwestern (4 vs 6)
+2 Murray State (6 vs 8)

Underseeded
-5 Harvard (6 vs 1)
-3 UTEP (5 vs 2)
-2 Missouri State (3 vs 1)
-2 College of Charleston (6 vs 4)
-2 Kent State (7 vs 5)

No mid was overseeded over a big.  No big was underseeded at all.

Earned #1 Seeds
Harvard (35 RPI)
Cleveland State (42)
Missouri State (43)
St. Mary's (46)

Actual #1 Seeds
Boston College (58)
Virginia Tech (62)
Colorado (65)
Alabama (80)*

*Kent, a #7 seed, had an RPI of 78
