I see DC is always represented.

I selfishly want to know if there will be one in Cincinnati. I know many in the area will be driving to Nashville (about four hours) and if I didn't have prior plans that I can't cancel on Saturday, I would be there as well. Can't remember the bar in the Nati two years ago (it was either in Oakley or Hyde Park), but there was a great tournament for both the Georgetown and Tennessee games. It was also funny to hear the chants...with many fans who didn't know what to chant---eventually, the bar started chanting "USA, USA"

Anyways, if there is thread for other viewing parties, please help direct people that way.

If there is not a thread then please list (all areas) them below ---

Lash - I have emailed the head of the Cincinnati Alumni to see if he is setting anything up and will update as soon as I hear anything.  I am up for an informal one as well but have had bad luck getting the game on in my area because I am so close to UC's campus.  The Oak in Oakley was great for the MAC Championship Football game.

It was the Oak Tavern in Oakley that hosted the viewing parties two years ago. I was there for the Georgetown party and it was a blast. Couple hundred fans packed into that tiny place going nuts. I'll be in Cincinnati this weekend and would also like to have a big get-together. I wanted to go all the way to Nashville, but there's no way I'm dropping 80 bones on a ticket.

I'd suggest setting something up if you're interested and so inclined.

The Cincinnati department is kinda between leadership (people claim in interest in running it, disappear for months at a time, it's frustrating).

If you do set up a gamewatch, I have a bunch of connections from the old Young Professionals group that threw the Georgetown party in 2010 and would be happy to let them know to spread the word, even though I'll be in Nashville.  If you made it to the Oak for the MAC Championship against NIU this football season, it was those guys who brought a lot of the attendees to that event (which while not to the epic Georgetown party standards was still pretty impressive.)

Any advice on the best spot in Chicago to catch the game on Friday? I checked out the "where to watch" tab, but the Chi town bars all seem pretty hit or miss for Bobcats fans. I assume that we must have a decent alumni presence there, and I'm just wondering if maybe they'll be throwing anything together. Any help would be appreciated, I'd like to watch us beat Michigan with as many Ohio fans as possible (though I'm sure the neutrals will be all in on rooting for DJ).

The Chicago Alumni chapter always holds stuff at Racine Plumbing in Lincoln Park.  Really cool bar.  However, the only time I've ever been there was during the football MAC Championship game this fall, so I'm somewhat convinced it's cursed.  Not sure if I should push the luck, but it was definitely a good crowd and I would expect it to be bigger for the tourney.  If I hear of anything else I'll let you know.

Any suggestions?

Holy Grail or somewhere else downtown?

Hyde Park area again?

Further north, like West Chester?

I liked the Oak Tavern, however it was small and hard to get a beverage at times. At the same time, that was kind of the cool part since it felt like you were back in Athens. But, that being said, there many better places to watch a basketball game.

Regardless, I don't mind calling a few places to see if they will give us any incentives of having us there. Please let me know where people might want to go. We do need to get on this quickly so we can get the word out.

Also, if anyone in the Cincinnati department can step up and let us know what is up ... please do so.

Any Bobcats down here on the northern Gulf Coast - that is, the Biloxi - Mobile - Pensacola area?

I thought the Oak was great to us and would suggest it again (by the Tennessee game they had actually gone out and purchased TVs for the patio, put all green beers--Heineken, Rolling Rock, etc.--on special, and one of the owners or managers went out and bought an OU hat. thats support). If you do try another place, I'd suggest a similar Hyde Park/Oakley type area. Downtown will be too busy with people watching other games and you're likely to get washed out by the Friday night crowd. I've had problems getting the 30 and under crowd to go further north to a West Chester-like location.

That's my best suggestion. Good luck. (and again, let me know and I'll let my Cinci-OU contacts know about it)

As for your questions about the Cincinnati "department" I don't know if that really exists. The OU Alumni Department resource has several geographies on her hands and it doesn't seem like Cincinnati is a priority for her. When we tried to get the group back up and running last summer/fall, I had trouble getting her to respond to emails with simple requests like access to the OU Alumni Cincinnati Facebook page so we could spread the word about upcoming events, or to share ideas/feedback on future plans over email. There's a real lack of organization and drive to build momentum coming from the Alumni Office resource(s) focused on Cincinnati and it's disappointing.

Even with that said, the OU Alumni lead for Cincinnati is based in Athens and you need people on the ground in Cincinnati who are willing to lead a chapter for it to actually become one and start to grow. It seemed like there were plenty of people who were willing to get together and talk about what should/could be done, but when it came time to actually execute events, the meetings grew much smaller and email threads much quieter.

I've become fairly frustrated with the group and curtailed much of my involvement. To my knowledge they haven't had any events since this year's MACC versus NIU.

I realize there are probably very few others who care about this, happy to take the Cincinnati Alumni Group conversation to PM for anyone so inclined.

O'Bryons Pub is where I will be all day unless a party is organized elsewhere. The Oak was nice for the GTown game but it was a little too crammed for my tastes. Either way, the more Bobcats there are in one place, the happier I am.

I think Oakley/Park would have the largest collection of alumni. Oak Tavern was a little small, and it would be good to have it at a place that serves food. O'bryan's would fit the category very well. Molly Malone's in Pleasant Ridge isn't too far and is a good size, too.

I called O'Bryan's and Molly Malone's (holding off on the Oak Tavern, since we know we could probably set up there). O'Bryan's party planner is supposed to get back to me, the person I talked with - said the party area has already been taken for a game-watching party Friday night (wonder if OU people already locked it up). Talking to the guy, it appears that it will be crazy there with or without us.

Molly Malone's guy, I believe it was the owner, was concerned when I said the Friday night before St. Patty's day. But he thinks it will be early enough that we will be ok. Plus, any early drinkers will probably be outside in their tent. The place is bigger than Oak, has places to sit for those who can't stand the whole time and a semi-private area where bands usually play that features a large flatscreen television.

Unless I hear otherwise from O'Bryan's - I am starting to think Molly Malone's might be best.

I know, the Oak was great, but it is tiny and I want everyone to have that crazy experience as well as be able to sit down or eat food if they want.

Thoughts?

I'm just impressed and pleased you're taking the initiative and doing this. I went to Molly's last year for St. Patrick's day. It wasn't extremely crazy, but still pretty busy. It seemed busiest outside where they roped off their parking lot.

We're working on finalizing details for a Columbus Gamewatch today.  There was a conference call last night, and options for locations have been explored.  I will post here on Bobcat Attack, but you can also be on the lookout via Twitter and Facebook.

Leah - When I used frequent Mollys the manager was named Jeff and he was an OU alum.

Thanks for running with this.

I am getting close at making a decision. I have spoke with the few local grads that I know and right now it is down to three - Molly Malone's in Pleasant Ridge, O'Bryons and Oak Tavern.

I have also placed a call and emailed the assistant director of the alumni association, requesting her help in spreading the word. Obviously, the fact that we have Bobcatattack.com - will help us out with that as well

Anyways, would like to know what people think -

Oak Tavern - Obviously, we all have the memories of 2010. The place smells, looks and confines us like a classic Athens bar. However, we are all older now - some of us are physically bigger, some with wives, etc. We might need a little more space where people can easily get a beverage, get some food or sit down if they can't stand for two hours. There are tables, but most will be taken well before tip. I assume the Oak will have a OU crowd built in, just due to prior events.

Molly Malones -
Molly Malone's guy, I believe it was the owner, was concerned when I said the Friday night before St. Patty's day. But he thinks it will be early enough that we will be ok. Plus, any early drinkers will probably be outside in their tent. The place is bigger than Oak, has places to sit for those who can't stand the whole time and a semi-private area where bands usually play that features a large flatscreen television.

O'Bryon's - Just got a call from O'Bryon's party planner and things look promising. They are offering us their party room for the game (there is party before the game that will be out of the room by 6). It features seven tables and three flatscreens. The rest of the bar also has TVs, so if it gets crowded - people can venture out. Oh, also, O'Bryons has a patio outside with a television.

Thoughts? Would like to call Molly Malone's and O'Bryon's back with what we decide. I have personal cell phones for each. They would both obviously love for our group to come.

Sounds great. I think you nailed the location aspect. If I wasn't headed to Nashville I'd attend.

Well, I heard back from O'Bryons and they are offering a private party space - as well as being welcome to the rest of the bar. Starting to lean that way - see post above (for other Cincinnati people)

O'bryan's sounds promising. I think I know the area you're talking about in Molly's. They had the UC game on last year during St. Patrick's day and although they had the big flat screen, there might be obstructed views if people were standing. O'bryan's is bigger and has enough TVs. Plus that second floor patio is nice if it's warm and clear out.

Let's just go ahead and call it.

I will PM the CINCINNATI people on this post and continue to pester the alumni association.

Please tell as many OU people that you can.

Do you know how to get this posted on the top of the page? I just PM'd Ted.

Please spread the word:

After some discussion on Bobcatattack.com, there is a viewing party scheduled at O'Bryons Irish Pub, 1998 Madison Road Cincinnati, OH 45208, for this Friday's Ohio vs. Michigan NCAA Tournament game. This is not being put together by the alumni association, but by some Bobcatattackers. That being said, we need help spreading the word. Please tell your OU friends.

The bar is offering up its private party area for our viewing party - starting at 6:30 p.m. We encourage as many people to get there by that time, so the bar owners won't regret us using this space for free.

There are tables and chairs in the private area, along with flatscreens. There is also a patio with a television. The rest of the bar will be open, if it gets crowded in there. TVs are available throughout the bar.

Last note, the private party area will be open to the public after the game is over. Doesn't mean you have to leave, but just a heads up.

Tip is 7:20 p.m.

This forum is now open to our Chicago and Columbus friends - sorry taking so much space

I know it is totally random but I am going to be in the Chattanooga Tennessee area visiting family on the day of the game. If there is anyone getting together or a group that is going to watch the game, let me know. I'd love to spend the evening with some awesome alumni of the REAL OHIO.
