Ohio's Best?

Not sure if anyone really keeps track of this, but I would think with the expansion of post-season play, this has to be Ohio's best year for D1 teams that have made it to the post-season.

1. OHIO
2. Cincy
3. Xavier
4. OSU
5. Akron
6. CSU
7. BGSU
8. Toledo
9. Kent St.
10. Dayton

Youngstown State and Wright State are the only two not to make the postseason? Yeah, that's gotta be a record.

Funny you bring this up, because I was abut to look at the number of Ohio teams that were in the NCAA/NIT and compare to other states. I'd guess we probably win that statistic too with 4 in NCAA, and 3 in NIT.

YOu are correct in that listing.

I was referring to the the NCAA, I had actually listed the others and deleted before posting. THanks for getting them up there. There have been years with a few more in the Big Dance. Nice to see IU back after a few years out...IU and ALabama both reaping the rewards of a coaching change.

Taking St Marys and New Mexico in my Brackets though

I was thinking along these lines myself the other day. I believe the Horizon League is the only D-1 conference that we (the state of Ohio) have members in that did not have a team in the championship game for the conference tournaments.

A-10: Xavier (lost)
BIG 10 but actually 12: Ohio A&M (lost)
Big East: Cincinnati (lost)
MAC: OHIO (won) and 'kron (lost)

I know that most of our national recognition is being a good state for football (high school and college at least), but looks like we can play a little hoops too.

Speaking of CIT..........does anyone know if this is intentionally a "mid-major" tournament? The teams all appear to be non "big-six" schools. Or were just not any teams left after the other 3 tournaments?

NCAA Basketball Post-Season Breakdown, by State:

*There are teams represented in the 4 post-season NCAA tournaments from 44 states, and the District of Columbia.
*The 6 states with no teams in any tourney? Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island
*admittedly HI, ME, and NH have a tough time with only one, or two D-1 schools in those states, AK has none

In terms of total # of teams representing each state, here is the breakdown:
10 - Ohio
10 - California
9 - Pennsylvania
8 - New York
7 - Indiana
6 - Texas
5 - North Carolina
5 - Florida
4 - 7 states
3 - 6 states
2 - 9 states, & DC
1 - 12 states

In terms of a % of teams qualifying for the post-season, Ohio should be at the top, with .76% of all D-1 teams in a post-season tourney.

the CIT is geared specifically for Mid-Majors only.

But if it wasn't who would you want to play in a tourney from one of the Power 6 Conferences? Who's left?
Only Clemson, Maryland, Illinois, UCLA, and Arkansas even have a winning record.

Hard to believe that the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations has no one in any tournament with TOS at the helm of the Bryant Bulldogs.
