Growing up a Maryland and ACC fan this isnot good news to me. Will the dominos ever stop tumbling.  It will be intresting to see if this opens back up the UConn to the ACC discussion.

I think it will.  I don't want to get to into the crazy scenario building that some do, but I think the most realistic way this affects us is if the A-10 gets poached and they go looking for a replacement.  And if UConn heads to the ACC, you gotta figure the Big East would look at some A-10 schools.  And if the A-10 loses 1 or 2, you gotta figure they will want to get back to 16 teams and would give us a serious look.

At what point does the BE become a less attractive option than the A-10 for most schools?  I guess for teams that have football that might make a difference but if UConn leaves and basketball is your focus like most of the A-10 teams I just don't see the attraction.  I can't image the money following the BE around much longer.

UMass football might have the shortest stay any school has ever had in a conference.

Question:

Would Ohio ever consider a basketball only membership somewhere?

It seems to me that Big East basketball has been weakened substantially, particularly if Louisville and UConn are the next to bolt, as is rumored. That leaves a couple of basketball only schools in the Big East (Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Villanova, Seton Hall) in a conference that may not be up to snuff for their big revenue producing sport, particularly for Georgetown, Villanova, and Marquette. There has long been talk of a Catholic School basketball conference, that would no doubt include all of the those Big East teams, and a bunch of current A-10 schools like Fordham, Duquesne, Xavier, St. Joes, St. Louis etc. If that ever took form, it would leave a lot of slots to be filled in the A-10 alongside Richmond, Butler, VCU, Rhode Island, and Charlotte.

Given our recent successes, and relative geographic proximity to Indianapolis and Richmond (Athens is 100 miles closer to Richmond than URI is, for instance) we could be an option were that to unfold.

Or does football drive realignment totally, and Georgetown/Villanova etc. are just stuck where they are?

Sense of Shame . . . consideration = "yes" . . . actually biting the bullet = a definite "maybe" or less.
