Only lost to Richmond by 10 points on the road.  I'll take the Cats similar to what they did today.

Supposedly they used to be at meacfans.com but the forum part of that site doesn't work anymore.

These guys appear to be pretty defensively minded...which is a nice way of saying they can't score.  They seem to especially strugle to score from behind the arc.  Going up against our defense...I'll be surprised if they crack 50 and won't be surprised if they are still in the 30s late in the game.

This team has a knack for going on big runs with our defense. This game went from tied to Ohio +17 in the span of about 5 minutes. This team plays strong defense and is so athletic and deep. This is going to be a great season

21 points off of 14 TOs in one half is absolutely sick. I dont know if we keep this ridiculous turnover rate up over the year when we play actual competition but its definitely one of the highlights of the season for me so far.

So...are we allowed to play defense against this team?

A win is a win but we got destroyed on the boards 43 - 26. Thankfully Hampton had 24 turnovers. Over half of their points were in the paint.

The officials almost lost control of this game in the 2nd half. They missed a lot of fouls, including Reggie getting repeatedly slapped in the face. It was really ugly for about 5 minutes. I've noticed Christian is much more even-keeled when the rest of the crowd is going nuts over blown calls. He addressed it post-game by telling his players that the ref will never reverse the call so don't bother getting a technical on top of it. It will take a while for me to get used to his style. I'll miss a good stomp on the floor by Groce.

Hampton scored 0.86 points per possession.

Hampton offensive rebounds: 20 (43 total)
Ohio defensive rebounds: 18 (26 total)

Ouch.

I remain optimistic about this team, but this game exposed some of the same problems that hurt this team last year. The biggest one is getting killed on the offensive boards. And Hampton's not particularly big or talented. If these rebounding numbers happened against even a mediocre team, it would be an ugly loss.

Team played and appeared to feel the same way I did tonight--wasn't really into it.  Students gone, band gone, poor crowd, little energy in the building, lackluster opposition.  All the makings of a trap game.  And while I never felt we were going to lose, our intensity especially on the defensive end as compared to the past few games, was just not as sharp.  Fortunately, Walter had his 2012-13 coming out party, we were at home and we were just that much better than this team whereas a lackluster performance was good enough to pull out the victory.

I'm sure the team is happy that the next four games are coming up and hopefully this will inspire them a bit more than tonight did.

I don't buy the "trap game" perspective. No team should take lightly any other team, no matter what it says on paper. Either you show up and PLAY or you don't. Tonight we didn't appear to be a team that was an NCAA tournament team last year. We were mediocre at best.

I agree, but it happens sometimes.

You're not going to look good all 35 or so games of the year, and I'd much rather win those games than lose them. I hope they use this to improve their focus and precision come Sunday, as we'll need it.
