On the official game thread we discussed how bad the video was from last night's game.  It looked like bad claymation.  I'm not sure it was even better than nothing; you often couldn't tell when passes were stolen, when buckets were made or when somebody might've traveled.  Are they working on it or is this what we can expect the rest of the season?

I think we are all afraid to say anything because it is free and it is there.....but it has become extremely bad. ...like to the point you need antivert to watch it due to the stobe effect.

I remember being able to watch the feed the first year we had it for the girls games and it was way better. I have tried 3 laptops and one desktop and my sony google box and all are doing the same thing at the same time or even one at a time to test ans see if it was just too much bandwidth.

Someone said the firstrow feed was better than the internet through the OHio website but stillnot good. The audio is dynamite but the picture is just gawd awful.

As you grow the fanbase the best way to squelch that is deliver short.  I would very much like for someone to address before the natives ( and not so native) start getting restless.

I'm grateful for the free video feed but the over all quality is becoming an issue. If someone involved with the process could come up with a solution for improving the broadcast (better camera, etc.) and could give a dollar amount it would take to make those improvements I bet we could get enough fans/alums to chip in to make it happen.

Has it been like this for you guys all season so far? I watched the first half of the Hampton game via the stream and it looked fine to me...

Like I said last night, if this is a scheme to get us to pay for a better feed, it's working.

as an alum of the rtvc  program back in the  80's
a program that was once tops in the country  rivaled by only a few .. its just really sad to see a "production" coming out of the convo like this.  I am guessing from the looks a 10 year old analog webcam
It maybe a problem of the host service stretchinternet.com not being able to stream hd feeds.
If so move to a different isp

The archived games are all up in the On-demand section. I watched a little of last night's game and .... yikes. By contrast, the Portland game video is sharp, smooth, and the camera operator did a fine job, too.

It's VERY choppy. I wonder if it's because of a higher demand? My ESPN3 stream is perfect but assume its because ESPN can handle a very large audience while Ohio Bobcats.com may not. I am not a tech head so perhaps someone can enlighten me on the issue?

But it wasn't really a problem much last year at all.  Hopefully it's something that can get fixed easily.

I haven't looked, and since it is the same basic stream the answer to this question should be a negative, but is the video any smoother on the mac-sports.com feed?

Has anyone emailed the Athletic Department?  They may not be aware the quality is so low.  Evan and his staff should be able to fix this if it's been higher quality in the past.  I am fortunate to be able to see all the games live, but I feel for those of you that have to watch at home on a low quality feed.

I've said this in a previous thread, but seems like Arkley/Rob/Russ have complained about little or no wi-fi access at the Convo in some of these early games. Might also be impacting the upload speed of the video. Because even if you watch on-demand, the video is still the same poor quality. Has to be something impacting the upload.

That actually makes a lot of sense. Add me to the number of people who have been disappointed with the feeds this year, but especially last night. With as good as this team is this season, it'd be a shame not to have a top rate way to watch their home games like what's been provided in years past.

I am extremely grateful for the free service, but I have to admit, I was a little embarrassed when they announced that a Bar on the St. Bona campus was tuning into the broadcast. When it's this bad, it kind of makes the school look bad. I can just imagine what they were saying trying to watch the Claymation basketball game.

Count me among the frustrated. Also curious if it is on our end (bad Internet at the Convo) or on Stretch's end (too many streams/more than we're paying to support). Will be curious to see how it looks with students off campus. I know my senior year, the network (overall, for the entire university, regardless of wired/wireless) was completely saturated about 16-18 hours many days. I'd read that upgrades were in progress, but not sure of the status or if things have improved.

It seems crazy to me that a place like a major university struggles with providing internet coverage on campus. They teach using technology and expect students to embrace technology. It's pretty easy to anticipate how much needs to be provided, yet the network on campus is always overloaded. I'm not much of a techie, but there has to be a way to fix this.

Also, why can I get free wifi at McDonald's, but cannot connect to the university's system as a guest? It's not like the need for wireless access is going down any time soon. It's annoying.

I complained to Stretch, and they of course are blaming OU:

Hello:

Unfortunately we do not control any elements of production on the broadcast, including the camerawork, commentary and general production quality (scoreboards, graphics etc...). We would be happy to pass along your feedback to the appropriate parties at the school. If you experience any difficulty accessing the stream itself, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Please let us know if we can provide additional assistance.

The problem however isn't the production quality, it is the stream quality. Could be either one.

Also, with regards to the OU network, my senior year when I was experiencing regular trouble (Spring 2011) the entire university had a 500 Mbps connection, which is entirely too little.
