DJ Cooper 1-7 from 3.  Bonnies guard talking shit to him all game and flashing 3 fingers at our team and bench after  made shots.  Etc.  40 seconds left.  20 something on shot clock.  Prime time to run our best play.  Cooper just says "I'm gonna take and bury this 24+ foot shot and win this damn game.  Way downtown, bang.

Heart of a thief, indeed.

And, talk about don't flinch.  Did anything go right the last 10 minutes of the second half?  Serious foul trouble.  Missing close shots.  Bonnies running their mouths and then taking the lead.  Just looked to me like we were in serious trouble many times.  And, Christian stays calm and coaches.  The team keeps at it.  And, we pull it out.

Nice, tough win.  They all ain't easy.

The crowd stunk, though.  Awfully quiet for that many people.

(Watching Groce and Illinois starting to put Georgia Tech away.  I guess I'm an Illinois fan now.)

Our guys shot the ball poorly most of the night. The difference I am seeing is that they do not abandon the offense just because their shots aren't dropping. DJ is more disciplined than ever. I would say he was 1-6 because the last second heave at the end of the 1st half probably counted as an attempt. Other than that, all his shots were in the flow of the offense.

Christian is doing a great job staying calm. DJ, Ivo and Jon are all naturally fiery and JC provides a balance. I am pleased with the work on the bench this year in keeping their emotions in check.

Tonight was a tough win. I know the Bonnies aren't good on paper, but their guard made a ton of clutch 3's. He wasn't left wide open, he just caught fire. Good win. I'm looking forward to my trip to Robert Morris. We know they'll be gritty too. This was a good preparation game for Saturday night.

Are you serious? That's the most students I've seen at a non-conference game that's not Portland/Dad's Weekend in many, many years. Sure most of them were there for the free food and scarves, but...you can't say that was a bad crowd at all for Wednesday night vs. St. Bonaventure.

The crowd was pretty electric after Cooper hit the 3.

What a team win. Smith was they key tonight. Ivo was pretty terrible throughout.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

Yeah, the crowd was solid. 6,000 strong.

I just wish the band and the Ozone would get in sync. Are the Ozone leaders really that bad? C'mon, spread out and get everyone in the Ozone into it.

I think there may have been a number of "first timers" in the student section tonight. Free scarfs bring them out of the woodwork - hope that they had a good time and come back.

Yes, I am too. What the hell happened in the second half? Did the warmth from those scarves make the Ozone tired/sleepy? The home court advantage disappeared - it's about Stopping opponents momentum, not just cheering when we score............

As a student who stands in the Ozone, i'll say it; the Ozone leaders have been that bad.

But to be honest, a lot of the people sitting in the Ozone so far this year aren't the type of diehard fans. They're the type of people that are going because they hear we have a good team and games are an event.

Very little cheering by people in the Ozone, other people don't know the chants and some people surprisingly left early.

I think it'll get better come conference season but I still think having the cheerleaders on the baseline instead of the sideline has caused the Ozone to become quieter and less of a presence.

Size wise, it was impressive today. Noise wise, it took till the end of the game.

Per the "calm" during the storm. I was impressed. I saw no evidence of fright, panic, or fear on the team or the staff.

I think if your gonna sit in those "Black", "Courtside", whatever those chairs/table on the floor are in front of the Ozone - then you should be REQUIRED to make noise, stand, agitate, and CHEER LEAD!

Also as a Member of the Ozone and as a freshman. You can't can the fact we don't already know the chants. There really freaking easy. Half of the people that sat in the Ozone didn't care about the game and only wanted the scarves, and half of them sat down.

I actually led two chants, as the Ozone "leaders" all tend to sit in a pack of about 12 in the front and don't communicate with anyone except themselves. The leaders suck, and I could honestly do 10 times better with 3 other guys...

From across the court, it seems to me that the O Zone (and student support in general) has gone the way of the "casual" fan. There's less die-hards, but a lot more students are coming to games than ever before. The free food, scarfs, hats, shirts, etc. bring them in and they'll stick around to watch some of the game - check their phones - sit down - talk with their friends - and probably leave early.

Now don't get me wrong, I fully support attempting to bring in these "casual" fans - because it's the only way to keep building our crowds. The freebies work...that's obvious. But, I agree that it would be nice to see a more die-hard fanbase among the students. Hopefully as some of the freshmen get used to the cheers and atmosphere, they'll be able to step it up a notch.

I'll complain about the "chefs" too - AGAIN complaints from behind in the "oldzone" to sit down during the game........bull crap. If you want to watch while sitting, especially when the action is good or during critical moments during the game, then sit higher up............

I tried starting a few cheers tonight and a few caught on, but most of them ran out of steam. One guy even came over who was a former OZone member and called everybody "pathetic." Nobody appreciated that, I know I didn't because I was one of the few people cheering, but nobody took any of it to heart. If I was OZone leadership and a former member would call me out like that in front of everyone in the student section I'd be as loud as I could be in order to set an example. But after that the  leadership was lethargic for the most part and took cues from the cheerleaders or 110.

Missed the game traveling from Ohio to Monroe country.  This is about the best synopsis I can recall from any game. +1  Thank you glad for win.

Wish I had won power ball.  Our funding problems would have been obsolete.

What impressed me with the shot was that DJ had an awful night from 3, not just the percentage but in chucking up airballs.  At least three didn't hit anything.  Nerves of steel.

This team really showed its maturity.  Never saw a flash of panic, even after SB took the lead.

Nice sized crowd.  And, I've been impressed with the student turnout all year.

But, we were awfully quiet.

Ozone needs to get its mojo back.

I love that we had a midweek crowd that wouldn't fit in a lot of MAC arenas, and people are complaining about it. So what if they were there for the scarves? Get them in and show them a good time. While you're at it, quit telling them that they don't measure up to your idea of a fan.

The fact is that all crowds everywhere are going to be more sedate and more likely to be multitasking. Smartphones aren't going anywhere, and it should surprise no one that students don't share a level of fanaticism for Ohio athletics that can only be found on this board.

Loud, lively atmospheres are great, and I hope the Convo becomes a tougher venue as the year goes along, but I'll gladly take 6,000+ on a Wednesday in the meantime.

THat just might be the key RJ. How about an Ozone app? Cheers timing and leaders getting to the ozone in game with tweets and info that is instantaneous. Generate a q code they swipe on the way in that links them in the entire game. GOtta be a geek in there somewhere just waiting to be the one who sits in the convo and incites the riot.

There is really no such thing as O Zone leaders. Sure there is a board that organizes things, but chants are up to the general O Zone population. Freshman have just as much right to start chants as anyone else. It only takes a few to get it started. You don't have to wait for the "leaders".

bingo, it helps if the central area leads, but it does not have to be that way. If anyone tells you not to make noise or quit being mean, f*** 'em (this was something I heard last night in talking to some in the O Zone, most likely from the group of girls that left at half time). Although, I felt the last 6 minutes the O Zone stepped up and was great. If someone is not cheering, sitting, or encouraging others not to, let them know where they are, and where the seats they might prefer are.
