Calling all Bobcat season ticket holders...I have 2 words for you: Show up!!

I was talking with a friend tonight that didn't order his season tickets until last week. He told me that they were showing him the seating map and he was shocked at how many season tickets we have sold. Apparently there are almost double the amount of sales over last year.

He wanted the family pack (all the sections behind both baselines in the upper level), but that was sold out. It goes all the way up about 12-15 rows! Then there's the premium family pack in the better seats up top and it's completely sold out. He finally settled for the cheap "Hoops Action" seats, upper deck right behind the basket, but he had to go up to row M!

Hearing this, I've just got to call out our season ticket holders a bit for not showing up. You see smatterings of people around the Convo (much higher up than in previous seasons), but there seem to be TONS of no shows - even in the more expensive seats down low.

I realize that Hampton and Wofford aren't circled on anyone's calendar....but if you already have tickets, why not go to the game? It would go a long way in helping the team through these winter break games with no students and no 110.

Off the soapbox. Hope to see YOU at Richmond!

I haven't missed a game, but I have not used all my seats. I have 4 extra tickets and they have only been used once. The other three games those seats have been empty. I suspect as the team keeps performing well, some of my friends that are casual friends will start using them.

Agree to a point.

I have season tix . I have made 3 games but will not probably be making mid week games from Muncie. I did make 130+ in 4 years and over 20 last year but Hampton mid week is not worth 8 hours in the car.  I would offer mine to locals but some folks would make the economic argument that I am taking money out of the athletic dept coffers.

I think the people in the seats next to me last year came to two games and is was like the sixth row.

Certainly understand those that live far out of town (even Columbus or Parkersburg) not making some of the "lesser" games. I'm more talking about the locals that live 10 minutes from the Convo and still don't bother to come out for some of these games. And there are LOTS of those!

And to those of you who buy more than you need...good for you. I think we need more of that to help bring in new fans. IMO, we should all be doing that.

Here is my issue...

I applaud those who live many hours away who buy season tickets.  But if you know you can't come, are those tickets ever sold out on stub hub or through the ad or something? I understand why the AD would have a policy of not buying back season tickets, but in seasons like this I hate seeing empty seats down low when i know people would pay for those.

Ps, i am going to open a bar on court street and sell season tickets for the bar stools... Family packs will also be available.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I didn't go tonight...I make it to 50-75% of the games from north Columbus.  Usually when I don't go, I make no effort to re-sell my tickets.  Maybe I should.

But really, when you sell season ticket packages for less than the price of 3 games...This is going to happen.

At some point I hope the focus is getting people to attend games versus just selling tickets...  I don't forsee this happening until we take up the Bobcat Love philosophy on scheduling, join leavemacnow's conference and take up my thoughts on W/L record..

I would like to know how many people come to the Convo for a weeknight game or even a weekend game that are looking to purchase the expensive tickets.  Walk-ups are going to ask for the cheapest tickets available and likely never even look at their ticket.  I don't see a problem with people buying tickets that they can't use.  Potential corporate sponsors want to know how many season ticket holders we have.  A significant increase in season ticket sales is certainly a great selling point.

Anyways, the guy who is worried about his seats being in row M of the upper deck should not have any problem moving down like everybody else (excluding "expensive seats") for the majority of the season.  I'm sure he and many others will purchase season tickets much earlier next year.  A few consecutive years of Sweet 16 caliber basketball and season ticket holders won't mind an increase in price as long as they get to keep their beloved seats.

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.

Not sure how possible this would be, but could unused tickets be donated to a local charity and go to families etc. that would never have a possibility to go otherwise? Win-win.

Hmmmm

I do not know if certain folks would find that offensive and adverselyaffecting the bottom line or not. I do know that I am a Reds  fan because a certain benefactor gave our scout troop his tickets to Crosley when he was not using them and the free tix I got for straight A's, same with the Dayton Gems and some other allegiances (including Miami basketball) ....alll because I got some free tics as a kid.

I was able to unload some free tics to the Ball State football game along with some extra Ohio T shirts with TOmmy's autograph at the local Boys Club. Did not affect the bottom line but I think there are a few new young OHIO fans in the making. I like the thought.

Yeah, it's super simplistic to argue you shouldn't give away unused tickets because those people would otherwise buy tickets and you're therefore hurting the athletic department.

The real picture is more complex.  First, there's plenty of people who wouldn't go if they didn't have complimentary tickets.  Back in my days of asking friends to go with me, it was a lot easier to entice them to attend if I offered them free tickets especially if they wanted to bring family members.  This attendance itself isn't valueless.  There's a real value to butts in the seats - more butts, more wins, more support, more revenue, etc.  As you point out, Borna, you also set the stage for people to get hooked and go again on their own dime. They become fans and that helps.

Lastly, as a person who has benefited often from someone's kindness with tickets (not just the Bobcats), let me stick up for the value of a generous gesture to another human being as its own good.

I had to miss last night due to family holiday travel - imagine quite a few like that. I did however give my tickets to someone else - gratis. BTW - the holiday travel is being cut a bit short to get to the Richmond game - and will be driving 3+hours instead of the usual 1.5 hours.

I've gone to every home game except the Hampton game. None of my friends are Bobcat fans and there's nothing worse than showing a friend an empty arena. I went to the first game of the season vs. Portland and My dad and I sat in row W. Our seats were complete garbage. They where made out of cheap plastic that broke when we sat in them. I'm not kidding. Also, it was nice to see 12,000 fans pack the Convo even though half of the reason were the Dad's who went.

And another thing, More and more people will come when we play teams that just don't suck.I might make the trip down this Saturday to see them take on Richmond. As Richmond is a respectable squad with a 4-1 record.

One last thing. Why is Portland playing a tougher schedule than we are?

I just recently looked at there available seats on their website, and the complete lower bowl is sold out except for about 40 seats.

Because they're getting paid to be jobbers to bigger programs. We're big enough we can be the one to pay jobbers. Portland has all of four games at home before conference season. (Does anyone know how they're hosting UNLV?)

THATS what i'm talking about. The Convocation Center Holds 13,080 fans easily. Portland's stadium holds 4,852.

I hope in the future OHIO would have teams come to the Convo such as Butler, Cincinnati, Xavier, and West Virginia. All of those stadiums either have similar capacities or smaller.

This was in the Convo? I guess I did not know the chairs changed to plastic up there. Only time I went up was when tommy spread a few of his gramps ashes up in the rafters to watch over him.

With crowds growing this big I guess it would be good for someone to walk through the upper deck and check the condition of the seating up top.,

Yeah...The light green seats at the very top need replaced.  I gently stepped on a chair back and it shattered a couple years ago.

Maybe we need a ticket thread. free/low cost tix definitely motivate me to make awkward trips. Hint hint. Really any of the home games before MAC play are doable for me...

I am all for helping those who wouldn't normally go to games by selling your tickets for a discount.  But just to play devil's advocate I am sure the Athletic dept would rather have those season ticket holders not sell their unused seats and get non-season ticket holders into the Convo who pay for the available seats.

An idea especially on a forum such as this is almost to have a spreadsheet of tickets that won't be used and have them combined together and given to some charities or organizations in athens county to get those who would not otherwise have an opportunity to watch a game into the Convo.

I wish people would stop telling everyone what they can do with their season tickets.  I puchased 8 seats to every game before the season tipped off.  If I want to give a few away to friends/family/clients then I have the right to do that.  I have a family of four, so I specifically bought the extra tickets for that exact reason.  Big time programs understand that the person they sold season tickets to is not always going to be the person sitting in that seat.  That is why there is so much emphasis on season ticket sales during the offseason.

I would argue that giving them to an interested fan is a better use than donating them to charity.  The fan may eventually buy season tickets next year, while the charity is highly unlikely to pump future dollars back into the program.
