Message Not Read  Cooper on an NBA roster?

Just wondering how many people think Cooper will make the NBA after this season. His FG% is low, however the degree of difficulty on his shots is pretty high, and I feel NBA scouts will recognize that, and I have to think his decision-making will get better when he is not the best scoring option on his team, which decision making is probably the biggest knock on his game right now. Coop seems to hit every three that is wide open and in decent range, people don't notice that because he doesn't get that many good looks. He also has the best court vision I have seen from any player in the NCAA, and his passing skills are NBA caliber. Again, I believe decision making and size are the only two things holding him back from being a late first, early second rounder, but those are two BIG things. Just wanted to see some Bobcat fans thought on the topic, I know it is mid season and a weird thing to bring up right now.

Less than 5% chance. There were a ton of good college point guards who went undrafted last year.

I won't say he has a 0% chance of making the NBA, because players can evolve, but I don't see him having any shot at getting drafted. If he goes to a camp and shows he can fit into a system though, he might get a shot. I'd still say highly unlikely though.

He needs to hit the weights.  Defense would be a problem.

If he goes the rest of the year out doing double doubles each night. Who knows.

Earl Boykins had a successful NBA career and he's 6 inches shorter than Coop. Anything is possible. It might take a few years to get there.

Anything is possible.

I love Cooper so this is not meant as a slam on him, but Boykins was a measurably better player in a much better MAC. Not only do his career numbers beat Cooper's, they also improved every season and dramatically in his junior and senior years. If Boykins wasn't so short, he'd have been a lottery pick. His senior year numbers are gaudy.

coming into this season Cooper was on pace to finish his college career with 2,167 points, 923 assists and 345 steals. That would put him at 12th NCAA career assists and 8th NCAA career steals. As far as I can tell no other player has hit those 3 levels before.

That doesn't mean he'll play in the NBA but with an average senior year and maybe another game or two in the Tourney and he'll get some looks. And if not in the NBA I'm sure he'll make some decent coin over seas.

Slim is all I can say.
If he was able to shoot at a better % that would be helpful.

Recovering...good take on level of competition when Boykins played.  The MAC was never better during that era.

Just realized that Boykins played 16 seasons in the NBA. Granted, not all of them were full 82 game seasons...but still. Impressive for a guy who was listed at 5-5...but probably was more like 5-3.

It's a long way from the old NBA days, when, for example,  Red Auerbach and the Celtics 'organization' (they had no scouts) drafted future NBA star Sam Jones out of North Carolina Central without ever having seen him play a game. Today, NBA teams know hundreds of college prospects of course, including  D.J. who I've been told has been seen by Orlando Magic scouts several times this year at the Convo.

If DJ keeps his head on straight (no reason to believe otherwise), he will make a very nice living playing high level BBall overseas.

With the kind of free throw shooting we have been seeing - not a chance

I have several clients who are coaches and scouts in the NBA. They know who he is, but he won't get drafted. Their comment to me was that if goes to the right team on a free agent tryout, he could make a roster and stick.

He has a great shot at being on an NBA roster....the Netherlands Basketball Association.
