All you have to look to in our 2 losses is rebounds.
Is this a pattern, we lose the rebounding margin we loose the game?
Also in these 2 losses we shot poorly.
Is it simply being on the road?
I for one am concerned about this coaching hire and so far all we have won is home games against inferior opponents.
Good thing we have 2 more of those weak opponents, at home, coming up for our next 2 games.
This coaches style appears more laid back than his predicessor.
I also am getting the feeling that Christian, has all but stated, that he feels because of our success last year, and all the experience we have, he really doesn't have to push these guys too  much.
I am really concerned, as most of the MAC schools, are better than our first 6 opponents.
The fan base will be real upset with this team and coach if things don't turn around, and turn around fast.
The coach will see the same reaction that TOS got if he is not careful.
Leon's 1st year was great and then things went down hill for the team and coach.

THESE PAST 2 GAMES WERE VERY DISSAPOINTING, WE EXPECT BETTER

What game of the year is this?

You expected us to beat Memphis?

Do you think Christian has won all his games with smoke and mirrors?  My god man he was going for win 200 tonight.

The more we win in football and basketball the more fans become fickle and become chicken littles.  It's the beginning of the season for christ's  sake.

We made a bowl game in football and some of OUr fans still say we suck....OUr coach sucks...and we don't deserve to be in a bowl game.

If it's big dance week and we ain't in it then come out and throw us under the bus....of course if that happens you'll be on the I told you so bus.

Richmond is not some tin can.

They stunk tonight. I thought it was more turnovers and letting Memphis get out in transition tonight. But it is clearly a team that lacks any significant size and will struggle to hold its own on the glass (but we should have known that coming in.)

Pts off turnovers 23-4
2nd chance 17-4
Paint 48-22
Bench 38-9
No good no matter how you slice it.

That was exactly what Christian said in the post game interview tonight.  Played OK for first 12 minutes, then committed a series of unforced live ball turnovers and took some bad shots, which meant we couldn't get back on defense and Memphis built their confidence with dunks and layups.

our post game sucks. Ivo is quickly becoming my least favorite player with his homeless mans Dirk Nowitzki act taking all these fadeaway 17 footers. Go inside and rebound damn it

Inspect what they expect? Tell it like it is? You mean we have high expectations? What a shame! Who do we think we are! We are only OHIO. We are only in the MAC. We should act like we are - WTF?

Its not youth soccer where everyone gets a participation trophy. Demand excellence and you get excellence. I didnt realize being and Ohio fan was about being some righteous martyr where we are ok with being mediocre. This school has so much potential to be a major player in basketball

Agree with this. Also, while we lack some size just like last year, we also seemed to "team rebound" a little better last year.

Lack size?  We have three guys over 6'8" that play significant minutes.  Once the Memphis game got to athletes vs athletes, we were the loser.  Too many turnovers forcing things (DJ) and too SOFT on the inside (bigs).  Add an off shooting night and we were in real trouble after the 12 minute mark.

We do not have 3 guys over 6'8.  Smith is listed at 6'6.  There's no way Keely is 6'9.  Baltic maybe.   Agree with the rest however.

When you have your top 9 players back from a team that won 29 games and went to the Sweat 16 you have a expectation of a team to win winable games, ie Robert Morris.
In addition when you hire an experienced coach you would expect he would win winable games, ie. Robert Morris.
Rebounding is hard work, not rebounding well shows a laziness.
I am convinced having watched both the RM game as well as the Memphis game that we did not work hard on the boards and I feel very comfortable in saying the the RM game outcome would have been different. As for the Memphis game I think the game would have been closer and winable with a better shooting %.
I still think this coaches style will not garner the same results as Groce's.

I wish Baltic would play his size.

You're right, Robert Morris was a winnable game.  And we didn't win.  I guarantee Michigan and South Florida knew in their minds that we were a beatable opponent, but they didn't win either.  We were shot out of that gym at Robert Morris.  As for Memphis, I think it's been clearly articulated by coach himself that we played a terrible game.  He didn't sugar coat it.  I don't honestly see what else you want out of the team right now after eight games.

It's not like we played terribly, and then coach came out and said "Well, the guys played hard and we just lost to a better team."  Quite the opposite, actually.

I don't see how the sky is falling when we haven't even made it through December yet.

Somehow this coach has muddled his way through to the highest winning percentage in MAC history.  I would suggest everyone takes a deep breath and lets things play out a bit before evaluating him relative to Groce.  I'm confident he and the team will be just fine.

Bobcat 71....If you question how hard J.C. is pushing this team, especially when you compare coaching style to JG, I have to say...you have not watched many practices.   J.C. is very demanading in practice.  Concentrating on every possession!  He does not have the frenetic bench style that J.G. had, but believe me, he is coaching these guys all the time.  Come watch some practice and you will feel much better.  J.C. is one heck of a basketball coach, and he knows what has to happen to win the MAC.  This team has many if not all of the same faults that it had last year.  We are not a big physical team, and this will hurt us this year, just as it did last year.

Do we all agree that, based upon the compitition we will face these next 2 games, these are expected wins?
If we were to loose 1 or both should there be disappointment?
If we lose 1 or both should more questions be asked?
Should we expect this team to improve over LY, since the top 9 players and all starters are back?
I feel that if your answer to 1 or all of these questions is no than you have set the bar for our team too low.

I expect this team to contend for the MAC regular season crown, and to be among the 2-3 favorites to win the Tourney.

This group had flaws last year.  And has them this year.  They were able to come together and play excellent basketball at the end of last year.  Hopefully this team can do the same.

Ohio69 pretty much nailed it. I expect this team to be either 1st or 2nd in the regular season standings, and make a run to at least the MAC championship game. Anything less than that and I'd be disappointed. But I also don't expect another Sweet Sixteen run. I'd just prefer it.

I think they make the Big Dance......just don't think like most on here that they'll get the invite in the first 8 games.

We allowed this team 11 offensive rebounds, really, I mean really.
Do we not want to play hard, because that's all rebounding is.
I know people will say the loss was due to poor shooting.
When you have a poor shooting night you need to be sure to rebound well and not let the other team get 2nd chance points. We don't seem to want to work hard in this area of the game.
We reduce the Winthrops offense rebounds by 5 and we probably win
I will say it again....This coach doesn't seem to have the same approach as Groce and this could be the difference in this years results.
Coach inherits a Sweet Sixteam Team with all starters and 4 back up all back and it appears his style is not working.
How does everyone feel now that we have lost 3 out of the last 4 games, when at least 2 of these losses should have been wins.
OH, and how is Groce doing with an inherited team that didn't go to the dance last year? They are 11-0 and ranked 10th.
And next year...well we will probably return to having a .500 team if we are lucky.
