got a pair!!  This is towards Baltic.  Two points, TWO POINTS!!!!  That's very embarrassing!!  What kind of big man is he?  I'm sick of this.  If he is worried about getting hurt because he wants to play in Europe or somewhere or he has something else planned for after graduation, then bench him.  We have Hall, Smith, Green, Reggie to take over.  Either he has to get tougher, get benched, or bring Dustin back for a couple weeks to work with him.  SOMETHING HAS TO HAPPEN.......NOW!!!

Settle down. He's a 21 year old kid with shaky confidence. At this point, best to build him up instead of keep tearing him down. Long way to go.

Got burned on defense Multiple times tonight - out of position, not rotating to help, etc., SO many times in this game. I don't see what he is positively contributing - every decent stat offset by worse others..................

Start Green and get as many minutes in and up to full speed as quickly as possible.

Not getting it done on offense - and giving away points on defense. "Shaky confidence"? I think he needs "shook up".................

Uhh, he had 10 boards and 9 assists. He had a weak night offensively.  Do you think he tried to play poorly on offense? The outlandish attacks of a "kid" by supposed adults is embarrassing. This is a GAME!

No big guy got much done on offense tonight. Green had 8 as our best effort.  Keely 6, Johnson 2, Smith 2 and TJ scoreless. 20 point from 5 guys isn't gonna cut it most nights.

And you say he gave away points on defense? Was he on Morgan who lit us up for 35? I didn't think so .......

+10

But it seems some posters just need to vent and it results in emotional posts that often lack any real facts. When they wake up in the morning they might wish they could take back a post here or there.

Huh???? What does having an off night shooting have to do with leadership? I guess I'll let the stats speak for themselves.

I am not talking about one night bud, I have been to two games so far and see at least a couple on internet and this sideline jump-shot stuff is bad.  When I was at the Oakland game, I came in upset with Reggie and Ivo.  I was impressed with the play of Reggie, he got in and rebounded and played hard inside.  Ivo stayed outside and waited for a pass from DJ or Stevie for a sideline jumper.  He's been doing this all year as far as I've seen.  We have outside shooters, we don't need Ivo to do it either.  He needs to get inside and post up.  I am not a fan of the fade away inside shot, but at least it is inside.  Plus, as one coach told me as a big man, how can you follow your shot with a fade away.  He needs to buck up and get in there.  And by the way, I am not a OSUck fan, nor a bandwagon either (been a fan since Geno came as a freshman), I am upset with Ivo because he is not showing senior leadership by not playing to his ability.  HUH??

Green wasn't doing any better tonight.  He was out of position two or three times and gave up easy buckets.  Rob mentioned he's good on offense but is still learning defense.  I still believe in Ivo.  He got a bum goal tending call; it was off the rim but it was coming straight toward the ref so he didn't have the depth perception to see it.  Yes, I wish he would muscle up more on offense.  But Christian seems bent on making him a perimeter player.  He's not.  He's had 21 rebs in the last two games, so he's doing it on the glass.  Maybe being more aggressive there will help him turn this thing around.

Yeah, huh? I'm guessing you never played the game beyond grade school.

LEADERSHIP has NOTHING to do with an off night offensively.

1-8 was not good but 10 boards and 9 assists offset that.

Regarding shot selection ... are you the coach? LOL, I thought not.

HUH???  I guess you didn't read all the post, I said it goes beyond tonight.  I am glad you are not the coach because you focus on one game, gotta look at the performance of the past games.

Plus, when I was in middle school, I was playing against 20-30 yr olds.  You had to learn to get tough or get run over.  It wasn't the girls team you were used to.  LOL!!!  HUH!!! LOL!!!

He's hiting 50% YTD.

And I can guarantee that I played far beyond you ever did.

All I ask is that you deal with FACTS. Quit shooting from the hip with emotional tirades that can't be backed up with any substantiated facts.

If 50% FG is bad then tell me what would satisfy you.

And what, you were held back a number of years? Middle school and playing against 20-30 year olds? When did you get to Athens? Age 35?

50%  (46.9% now) shooting doesn't excuse his atrocious defense and poor rebounding. I know he led the team tonight, but his positioning was awful and boxing out almost nonexistant. His rebounds were more a product of pace than performance.

Stats often deceive and Ivo's stats deceive a ton.

Most big men are expected to shoot around 50% or higher so his % is where it should be. He doesn't go to the line as a big man which is unacceptable. He averages just above 5 rebounds per game which is alright but nothing great.

The problem with Ivo is that he could be so much better than what he has become. He has serious talent and has shown it in flashes in the past but hasn't shown it this year at all.

He has been hurting the team by not playing a more physical role focused on going to the paint and grabbing rebounds. I understand that's not his only role but we need more of that from him.

This team is soft right now and the last thing we need are soft bigs who can't execute near the basket. So while a lot of you look at his stats and accept mediocrity, I'm going to continue to analyze him for the position he plays and hold him to a higher standard. (which is what we're going to need if we're gonna go anywhere this year......although some of you seem like you'll be content if we win only 20 games and go to the CBI)

And I'll ask all of you this question:

Do you think Ivo has improved or regressed since he was a sophomore at Ohio?

Just wondering because many of you that defend him point to his stats. But when you actually look at his stats, he was better as a sophomore. He actually went to the line, shot well from the line, shot 53.5% from the field, and grabbed more boards all while playing less minutes. So what's with his numbers going down?

Ivo's sophomore stat line:

MINS   FGA  FG% 3PA    3P%   FTA FT% REB   A  BLK STL       TO   PTS

25.7 4.3-8.1 .535 0.0-0.1 .000 2.7-3.4 .783 6.1 1.1 0.2 0.7 3.0 1.8 11.4

The truth is, his finesse play is hurting Ohio and we would honestly be better to see more of Ivo the sophomore than Ivo the Senior. (also drove to the rim a lot more then and actually posted up.......there's a thought)

I'm tired of some of you guys saying...take it easy on Ivo, he's only 21.  Exactly, he's a grown ass man so we need to bench him because he is worthless out there.  I played a college sport and if I wanted to play, I had to do what the coach wanted.  Ivo is a negative when he's on the court.  Until he drives to the hoop, rebounds, and shoots 6 foul shots a game.....it hurts our team.

Guys, this is not the NBA, or the NFL.  The players that  we have out there on the court during our games and our practices are what we have!  For better or for worse....and they have certain skill sets and strengths and weaknesses.  Until other players can be successfully recruited with other skill sets,(ie size, strength, bangers inside),  "we are who we thought we were" !  A perimeter team with glaring weaknesses inside both offensively and defensively!  Nobody is more aware of this than J.C. and his staff.  They are working daily to help our "bigs" make improvements so someone can "step-up", and play better !!  The defiiciencies that we have "inside" do not only belong to one guy as some on this board are suggesting.  (IVO)  Because Ivo is our returning starter, and a senior, much of the spotlight falls on him.  He is just one of our inside guys who needs to step up and play better!  Hopefully our "bigs" will continue to work hard in practice as they have been doing, and improvements will begin to show on game nights.   This is the goal of the players as well as the coaching staff.   Trust me on this fact;  Our kids and our coaches are working DAILY to improve their play.  I am in the area, and fortunately able to observe lots of practice time, so I see how hard we are working on the weaknesses that show themselves on game nights.  ( especially on game nites when you face quality, talented opponents!)  Building a winning basketball team, especially at the mid-major level is always a work in progress, a year long, continuous work in progress.    Keep the faith.   We will compete for the MAC championship again this year, and if  things go our way, we have a great chance to win it.  We are not a "lock', or a can't miss, but we have some quality players who have experience, and we have a talented coach who knows exactly what must happen to be successful and reach our goal of another MAC Championship.  Get to the Convo, back this team, and enjoy the process !!

Well Big Jer, looks like I am not the only one feeling this way.  Once again, I am NOT talking about one game.  I think Ivo has a lot of potential and he has shown it before, that's why it's disappointing a senior is acting this way.  It proved to us we need a big man's game when we went against UNC and here he comes out in a year of promises and a year when they could really put OU on the map and plays as soft as he is doing.  Sure he got 10 or something rebounds but the games I've seen which have been at least four or five, Reggie and Smith were the ones getting in there and battling for the boards.  He just needs to step up his game and get tough like a previous poster said like he did in his sophmore year.

BTW, I was 13-14 playing against these 20-30 yrs old in a church league.  Tall and skinny and my coach put me in down low to learn to battle.  Now I am tall and bulky and have no problem getting rebounds.  And I have him to thank for that.  I hope those girls weren't too tough for ya.  HUH!!
