Hiring JC as head coach has to be hands down the worst hire in OUr history. Sure, we have had bad coaches in the past and we have had let downs from other coaches but think about this... This team has EVERYBODY back from their Sweet 16 team as we all know. No other school in the nation can say that. This team has high expectations, yes, and last year lost to a couple really bad teams, yes, but to see the team not even motivated and the energy level to be below a biddie league team is unreal. JC needs to pick the team up. And yes, Groce and Ford had unbelievable energy but something needs to be done this year. The style, the emotion, the intensity, everything. Memphis is a really good team but we all know OU is way better than that performance. Winthrop? That's flat out horrible. Umass at their place? Well, ok but was up 18-6 and I thought JC finally turned the corner by getting his team pumped up for the game but then give up a 23-1 run. It's hard to go to a game and watch nothing being done and nobody communicating from the coaching staff. We can all play the blame game of this or that or the fans or whatever, but never have I seen such a lack of effort from a coaching staff.

You must have just started following the Bobcats last year.

I'm guessing the Coaching "effort" wasn't any different then in past games. They didn't just get together at Aubrio's and decide to blow off preparation or in-game adjustments for this particular game.

Here are a few that were worse:

- Brian Knorr = 5,300,000 times worse.
- Tom Lichtenberg = 1,200,000 times worse.
- Semeka Randall = 700,000 times worse
- Bob Cooley = Infinitely worse
- Cleve Bryant = 10 times worse

I can keep going if you want.

TOS wasn't a bad hire at the time. He just became worse as time went on. He was highly recommended when he got the job and was ok until the last few years. Again, this OP is talking about the quality of hire.

I must have missed the sweet 16 team run they made the year before all these hires while the team returned everyone, then became this big of disappointment. Hit me up with the history books for them years because they do not exist in any I've ever looked at

Way too early to Judge JIm Christian and this team. Everyone is gunning at us right now but team chemistry will fall into place.

Again, you must have just started following Ohio Athletics last year. You don't remember Jim Grobe's 8-3 and 7-4 seasons? You don't remember the path that Sylvia Crawley had the WBB team on? Do you remember Kermit Blosser winning 18 MAC Golf Titles?

You might want to educate yourself and then think about joining back up in this fray. Amateur.

THIS. The jury is still out on Christian, but stating he is the "worst hire in Ohio history" after 11 games is utterly ridiculous.

I have a funny feeling that we'll be just fine come March. We'll see...

I would still put JC up there as the worst. Also, I'd like to add, I'm pure basketball. I swayed everybody by putting "history of OUr athletics" when I should have put basketball

RealCat, you're way off base.

Yes, the guy who owns the best winning percentage in MAC history was an atrocious hire . . .

You're putting entirely too much stock in the Sweet Sixteen run.  That was 80% right place, right time and 20% pure talent.

We are 7-4.  Aside from the Winthrop loss, hardly a MAJOR suprise.  Calm down and at least reserve judgement for mid-January.

All true. And just think, Hocutt was that bad and he wasn't exactly preceeded by someone who I'd even qualify as mediocre.

The OP has no idea what he's talking about.

ELEVEN GAMES. Can you at least give the guy a season before making such a statement? You have no idea what the rest of this year will hold.

Everyone take a deep breath. The MAC is very, very bad this year. We're in a horrible funk right now - the same sort of funk we had last season during 2 key stretches (@EMU and @Toledo....RMU, @BGSU, @Akron).

Come March, we'll be right there. I'd bet the farm on it.

Groce was 15-17 in his first season at Ohio.

Disappointing season? Maybe.

Disappointing hire? Too early to tell.

Good point. If Christian is 15-17 though, I'm beginning to lead toward the "bad hire" camp. He is inheriting a much better team than Groce did that season.

I guess you fell and hit your head ... since you seem to have selective memory. I could name other worse hires in the past 20 years. We're 7-4 right now; not 1 - 10.

+1

Do the names Billy Hahn, PapaL, Cleve Bryant, Brian Knorr and Dale Bandy not mean anything to you?

Edit: Sorry but I posted this before reading the rest of the thread and seeing that BL had come up with much the same list of Hall of Shame hires.
