Does the board think JC and Co knew that DJ was only 5 Assists away from tying the NCAA Record with around 7 minutes left in the game before they pulled him? I personally don't think the staff knew how close he was to the record. If they knew, why not let him go for it?

It was a great day, but I'm not gonna lie - that kind of chapped me. The pub for the program on something like that would have been spectacular.

I don't think the coaches or the players were aware of the exact number during the game, nor do I think that they knew (or cared at the time) how many assists DJ had at any given moment. DJ even said after the game that he didn't know how many he had had, that that wasn't something he keeps track of during a game, just that he'd had a lot.

Edit: Besides, he did set the school record, so all worked out in the end

DJ left game w/4:45 left. I wanted to see him get 20, was not aware of what the NCAA single game record was. I think JC pulled him soon after PA announced the record so he could get recognition ovation from the crowd. The game was getting sloppy(er) at that point - we had it in the bag - why risk an injury...............

There was a long time between assist #15 and #16. #15 was the Offutt layup that 30 years from now, 50,000 people will say they were in the building to see. It came at 15:10.

Cooper's double technical came at 7:10
#16 came on the next possession at 6:19.
#17 came on the next posession at 5:56.
Cooper left the game at 4:45

Staying in the game doesn't make the record an automatic.

And after the double tech, Cooper made his point to Robert Goff crystal clear.

I think calling it a day at that point is a fine choice. Nobody got kicked in the nads.

Not sure they knew and doubt if they cared.  Sticking with him in complete garbage time to get 33% more assists - I doubt that is the way he would want to get there (and wouldn't do the record justice - FYI - Sherman Douglas tied the record in a 100 - 96 win over Providence).

DJ's not into stats and records, and the "benefit" for the program would be marginal at best (when was the last time national or even regional headlines were made over an assists record; scoring is what grabs attention).  The game was won.  If he'd stayed in and gotten hurt we'd be complaining about keeping him in just for the sake of a record.

Not to mention leaving your star player in to quickly try and distribute and score and build on a 35 point lead in the final minutes would be a BS move.

What a bad suggestion.

First off, who cares, that's not why the games are played.

But most importantly, my understanding is that the end of the bench guys work their fannies off over their careers at OHIO.  And, we all know that they rarely get in.  So, to see them get reasonably substantial time yesterday pleases me a lot more than DJ's record.

Now, since DJ has been playing very well and really dishing it (that between the legs one for his, I think, 16th was incredible..your highlighter that should get you your national pub) and so, really deserves the pub....then for me to put even more importance on the chance for the guys who don't play much to get in--well, you can know how important I think it is for the guys at he end of the bench to get in.

Perspective and appreciation for everyone's contribs is needed.  Kudos to DMcK and Nick Goff for their 3-balls and for the end of the roster for their efforts!

Not to digress but I was totally jacked to see DMAC on the floor digging out rebs and then GOff and DMAc both with feet set, catch on the bounce and flawless releases to fly the ball to the bottom of the net.

The odds of him getting five assists in 4:45 would have been miniscule. He had 13 in the first half, which is a crazy amount, and he would have had to had a higher assist rate than that. It's not even a fair assessment to say he was close to the national record.

Monroe, you are spot on!  We don't play the game for  individual stats!  You play to win the game !  I thought it was great that JC got Coop out of there so he could get the ovation from the fans, and got our bench guys into the game so they could see some playing time!   Even if it is Marshall, you show class by not leaving your star players in the game when you are up 35 with 4 minutes to play.  Class, and Wins,  that is what we should be proud of, not individual records or accomplishments !

I think our team has a lot of class. Very mature group of guys.

No problem with Christian pulling DJ, game was in hand, DJ set the OHIO record AND Stevie could use the work.
