Not sure if this has been posted or not, but I thought I would put it on the basketball board because it would have the most views.

If you have a spare 5 minutes, and need some laughs.  Read this...

I've read the first 25 posts. 23 of them were for Ohio. 1 was neutral, and 1 was for Miami.

Below is my favorite answer and I think hits the nail on the head:

Yahoo Answers wrote:
I'll be honest. I don't go to either school. I never visited, and in fact, despite living in western Pennsylvania until I left for college, I never even considered going to school in Ohio. That said, I've met a number of people who attended both OU and Miami. I have never met a group of people who love their school more than the folks who went to OU. They talk about it as though it were Eden. Folks from Miami were like me -- college was very good, they learned a lot, etc. But, my lord, there is something in the water in Athens. For the record, I went to Ithaca College as an undergrad, and Villanova and Florida as a graduate student. I don't love any of those schools as much as OU people love their school.

Additionally, there doesn't seem to be any difference in the career or life outcomes of people from either school, except that more people from OU in my small sample seem to have met their future spouses while in college and they seem generally happier (no offense to my Miami friends).

I thought you said it would take five minutes!    I just spent over an hour agreeing with almost everyone on the thread about how much better OU is than Miami......I can't wait to take my daughter back to school this weekend, get a growler from Jackie O's, and then go back again next weekend for the OU/Toledo game!

This couldn't be more true.  My neighbors are Miami alums, and every week they host "Thirsty Thursdays", and most of the attendees are fellow Miami alums.  They're nice people, and my wife and I enjoy their company.  But if you try to talk MAC anything with them, you get a blank stare.  I remember asking the one guy back in the spring, "So what do you think of your new coach?"  He didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about.  I said, "The guy who is replacing Charlie Coles.".  He responded by saying, "Who is Charlie Coles?"

I couldn't believe it.  Charlie was/is awesome, and one of MY favorites, and these clowns didn't even know who he was.

When you talk with most of them, you'll learn that not ONE of them attended a basketball game in four years (Which, on another note, is something that proves how awesome OU is.  All these people graduated in four years.  Pfff.  My 6 years in Athens > their 4 in Oxford.).  Most of them only attended one or two football games in their collegiate careers.  You will find that most did attend multiple hockey games though.  They just don't care.  Very apathetic.  (There is one guy who is now a sports anchor for one of the stations in Columbus.  He wrote and covered Miami sports while he was in Oxford, and knows his stuff.  He is the exception, not the rule.)

I'll wrap it up with this story.  It was either 2003 or 2004.  My sister came down for sibs weekend, and we played Miami.  I believe we had over 11,000 for the game, and it was one of the crazier atmospheres in the Convo during my tenure.  Now, my sister was a current Miami student at the time, and a member of the dance team (meaning she was one of the few students that actually attended every Miami basketball game).  One of my proudest moments was after the game when she said, "That was incredible.  I was actually rooting for OU because it was so much fun in the Ozone.  Nobody in Oxford cares, and games are lame.  This was a blast."

To bad the game this year is while we are away on Spring Break... I expect a pretty large crowd versus Toledo, Akron, and the bracketbuster.

I have attended a Miami hockey game at the new Goggin. It is a very impressive building, and with the team's consistent success on a national level, those students camp out for tickets and provide a fierce college sports atmosphere. They cling to that team with a lot of pride in any OU-Miami internet argument. But....gah....I can't remember the last college hockey conversation I overheard at the water cooler.

In the early 90's when I was a student, quite a few of us would drive over to Oxford to catch the cats! Millet was always near capacity,(even though it is a crappy venue) seems sad to me what has happened..

Any clue when Charlie is going to make his trip to the Convo and watch a game with the Ozone?

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.

Agreed. Downside of semesters is that students now miss 2 MAC games each year. On a more positive note, at least the MAC Tournament and NCAA Tournament won't fall on exam week.

FYI, Bracketbuster is a road game this year. BGSU will be Sibs Weekend.

For the record, it was 2004. 2003 was Dad's Weekend and a loss to Miami.
