See our link on today's news stories to Elton's rundown of all the MAC teams.  A good place to start if you want a quick preview of how the teams stand going into conference play.

Hate to give him props, but gotta give the devil his due.

Its okay, but I think Matt Sussman's preview on hustlebelt is a little better: http://www.hustlebelt.com/mac-basketball/2013/1/9/3854708/mac-basketball-rankings-akron-zips

You can tell he has actually watched most of the teams play, whereas Elton's preview is pretty much "here is the team's record and here are their leading scorers."

Here is Elton's preview: http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/index.ssf/2013/01/akron_zips_ohio_bobcats_are_te_1.html

Observations about tonight's game:
  • As Arkley points out in the Messenger, turnovers could be the key to tonight's game.  Buffalo struggles with them and Ohio causes them.  We have to hope these tendencies continue tonight.
  • Buffalo is below .500 in assist to turnover ratio, and their opponents are above .500.  We have to take advantage of this by being aggressive.
  • Buffalo goes 8-9 deep depending on their injury situation.  They are missing their best guard, Oldham.  Watson has some good numbers, including assist to TO ratio and three point shooting.
  • Ohio goes 11 deep, so we have more depth.
  • Buffalo is a better rebounding team than Ohio.  They have some serious bulk inside with McCrae, Regan, etc.
  • Big man Regan shoots 60% from 3, so we can't leave him unguarded.
  • Other than Watson and Regan,  Buffalo isn't a great three point shooting team.
  • We cannot allow McCrae to go off on us tonight.  In the past, we haven't completely stopped him, but we've contained him.
  • Buffalo is a good defensive team statistically.  Holds opponents to 40.4% FG shooting.  Plays good 3 pt. shooting defense.
  • Buffalo's FT shooting percentage is below average and they get to the line less than their opponents.
  • Hoping to see Ohio at least hold its own on the boards.  We don't have to outrebound them, but we have to be competitive on the boards.
  • DJ and Walt should be able to have productive games tonight.  Buffalo's strength is inside.

Ball State really has a player named Majok Majok?

That's on par with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix as one of the oddest athlete names I've seen so far this year.
