Chuck Landon says it's a matter of too many point guards and too many turnovers.  The Herd beat themselves; Ohio had little to do with it.   Check it out.

I think Chuck's usually as full of crap as the next guy, but he is a Marshall columnist and he's going to write from their perspective. I thought it was a fair analysis of a glaring weakness on his team.

I noticed in Chuck's postmortem on Saturday's beatdown, he avoided snide putdowns of Ohio and the MAC, and instead concentrated on Marshall's weaknesses.

So, in reality, that's a step forward for him.  The next step forward would be for him to acknowledge good play by Ohio and that we have pretty good athletic programs at Ohio and the MAC...and that Marshall is not superior to Ohio.  Since his column was about point guards, I would have liked for him to recognize what a great game Ohio's PG, D.J. Cooper, played.

Well, they don't need to worry about having so many point guards now because Amayo quit yesterday. According to the story I saw on WSAZ this morning, he announced it on twitter rather than telling the coaches.

How hot do you suppose Tom Herrion's seat is right now?

welcome back athena

I suspect he will end up somewhere closer to home with lots more playing time. My gut feeling is that he will either be a star at a lower division or never make the grades.

I'll give OUr guys some credit for forcing a bunch of turnovers, while also acknowledging that the instability helped us force more than usual.  But, not only did Marshall turn the ball over a ton, but they didn't defend worth a darn.  As noted by Chuck, there were a TON of dunks and layups, especially in the first half.  Part of that is screens and DJ Cooper, but they didn't defend much in that whole game.

I'd say it's a strong chance that Marshall has a new coach in 2013-14.

Perhaps we should put in a good word for him with TOS?  Bryant isn't too far from Jersey.

No way Half mil buy out next year goes down to a quarter the year after. No one in that area sees a big donor to pony up hte money .......

I didn't know how much time he had left on his contract, but it seems like he's been there quite a while.

Personally, I hope they give him an extension.

Wow, that's a heck of a buyout.  I didn't know that.  I was basing opinion on the last three years and how the players (didn't) respond to him last week.  Could also be some of the personalities they've recruited showing through.

I'm in agreement with that thought!

Per my connections in and around Herdistan, this is exactly the kind of thing they were warned about by the folks at the College of Charleston. Lots of bluster, but not a lot of growth in players and teams. Their nickname for him was SAM: Short Angry Man.

But he won at College of Charleston, right?  And he was a well-recognized assistant coach at Pitt.  Count me among the surprised at how things are going for Marshall right now.

Guess we should be careful about counting them out or drawing too many conclusions about Herrion or the program.  They could get things turned around and headed in the right direction.

They had some success, but I think it was early on, and the CoC community really got tired of his antics by the end.

Said within the first 5 minutes of the game that Herrion had "lost" that team. Not to take anything away from our performance Saturday, but Maryland Eastern-Shore at least put forth a better effort than Marshall and Eastern-Shore was reduced to suiting up guys off the sidewalk.
