I knew there would be a comment along this line at some juncture.  I personally make a couple weeknight trips to Athens every season, but this won't be one of them.  In some ways I agree with your point, but the simple facts are that we have a lot of alumni in the Columbus area that aren't willing to drive down after work, and return home the same night.  Since it's on TV, why not have a gathering at a bar in honor of hoops?

I'm just being light-hearted, but it would be nice if more out-of-town fans made the weeknight trips. Understand the challenges, though.

I think the new bypass will change a little of that perception of it being "too far" to drive on a week night.  Still, Saturdays are best, when we can enjoy a full day in SE Ohio with lunch, some beverages, other games on TV, and some hiking weather permitting.  To me, going to A-town for a Saturday home game is the ideal way to spend a Saturday.

I make most the Wednesday games...but it is not easy.  The traffic heading out of the city is brutal if you don't get thru there by 5:00...which is tough to do for working folk.  You either leave at 4:30 and get there at 6:00...or leave at 5:00 and get there at 7:00.

Yep, that bypass cannot open soon enough. Then maybe we can get greedy and see if they can do something about the McDonald's/Speedway intersection @ Carroll.

I concur 100% about the Carroll intersection, though if 33 was like it was when I drove to Athens as a student, you'd probably never consider driving down during rush hour with all the stoplights that we used to go through leaving Columbus into Lancaster.

Or sit at home with my wife and a good steak with mushrooms and mashed taters and a some ice cream cake for dessert.

I also try and make a weeknight game to Athens from Columbus --typically only twice or so a season. Looking forward to that Nelsonville by-pass next year, although the traffic from Rt 33 on the SE side out past Canal Winchester can be VERY heavy some days, especially after 430-445pm. Wish I could go down there more often.

I guess we pay for not heading down to Athens in realizing that $3 bucks each for a domestic bottle of beer served in a bucket of ice constitutes a happy hr special....

Two thoughts on this - it's not technically a happy hour special, but it is the cost of a bucket for the whole game watch. I'm not in disagreement on cost given my forays to the Pub before many home games.

I will add that we're trying to branch out from Gresso's to see what kind of response we get.  While they have done, and continue to do a great job for us, there's been feedback that a little variety of location wouldn't be a bad thing.  To that end, the next game watch will be in the Hilliard/Arlington/Dublin vicinity.

If anyone in the Cbus area has feedback, connections, etc regarding locations we can use to host these types of events, please PM me on here.  Also, if you're up for helping with arrangements for future watches, particularly up north in Powell/Worthington/Westerville/Polaris areas, please let me know.

Check out the Pour House in Gahanna.  It's right off 270/670, they have a great upstairs for hosting events, and you can get a bucket of High Life for $6.
