The one from Taylor University was the best (from the non winning team/losing team.)

I'm fuzzy on the history of the winning team - losing team chant.  We did this chant at Athens High School, led by the unofficial "hoop heads," back in the early 80s.  It's certainly possible the HS stole it from OU but I don't remember OU doing it until more recently.  Same goes for the "Munch Munch Munch the Ref's Out to Lunch" chant.  The link says OU claims they "invented it" (Winning Team - Losing Team).  This I highly doubt.

The way I understand it is that Ohio students did it from the 60s-80s and then it went away for awhile. When the O Zone was created, assistant coach and former player John Rhodes told some of the members about how cool it was. Dan Lowe took it and ran with it, and it's been a mainstay of Ohio basketball

The article states in "no particular order"

That's correct about John Rhodes encouraging the use of the chant back when TOS first got the job at Ohio and the "Ozone" was formed.

I've been attending games since 1977 and I don't remember the chant being used until the Ozone started it.

I went there with Luckett and Huggy Bear and don't remember it but there's a lot I don't remember - it was the '70's.

Munch, Munch dates back to at least 1970-71.  The band, of course, led it.

Some Akron high schools used it in the early 1970s.  It's hardly an Ohio original.

Never heard this before. Do know that at the college level, it started on the West coast in the 80's, some give UCLA credit. Became popular all over the country for a time including OHIO, then became worn out and schools moved on, including OHIO. As Jeff mentioned above, John Rhodes resurrected it when he became a coach here. It was popular when he played for Nee.

I have a feeling the past few posts have been confused over whether we were talking about "Munch-Munch" or "Winning Team-Losing Team."  Could be my fault as after re-reading posts I may have started the confusion.  As I understand this thread Rhodes helped bring back "WT-LT" and the "M-M" was done in Akron in the 70s.

I was standing inches from Dan Lowe in the fall of 2001 when Coach Rhodes shared the story and how much he enjoyed it as a player.  This was at the first ever O-Zone seat selection event.  Dan Lowe and a few others camped out for days to get in as the initial members.  Glad to see it is still live and rocking to this day!

Yes, I was there complete with free pizza.  It wasn't just Rhodes telling a few of the Ozone members, it was Rhodes holding a microphone and addressing the entire Ozone.

Incidentally, W-T-L-T was originally "Scoreboard" I believe.

Was there for most every game during the Nee era and can honestly say that I don't remember hearing it.

Truly a person of the 70 s.. If you remember them you probebly werent there as the say ing goes.

Good thing the players on the floor remember it. I checked with Paul Baron . He also remembers the chant.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Winter comes and asks how you spent your summer.....

The game loves and rewards those who love and reward the game

Likewise. I was there from September, 1978 to December, 1984 and don't remember it either.  Only missed one home game (had mono), usually sitting where the Ozone sits now.  Not saying it didn't happen, just don't remember it.  Rhodes was a freshman when I left so my guess is if he remembers it it must have come about in 84-85 or 85-86.

This thread has become confusing as to which chant each post is referencing to - But I remember "Munch, munch...." at high school games very early 70's, and certainly in the Convo 77'ish and onward.
