But please, keep on talking about how awful we are.

6-0 in a MAC that has consistently been typified on this board as horr-ible save for 'kron and us.

Tell me how good the six we've beaten are?

So, are we now going to be ranked #1?

Can you say that we're playing great ball?  That we're playing to a significant part of our apparent potential?

I will never complain about a road win
My only head-shaking moment was not getting a good look at end of game which set up Holt's last shot.

WHY CAN'T WE BE PERFECT?

We're playing about as well as I expect. Sure, Nick could shoot it a little better, but this team is pretty much what it was last year. We were never as good as everyone expected us to be.

May I take a, perhaps, equivalent?

When football was undefeated it had beaten a lot of horrible teams.  But it had also beaten Penn State and a stupd cow that was psyched out of its mind.

I think that we can come together and rip it for sure.  But this team is frustrating.

Last year's team didn't accomplish it and the MAC was worse.   I don't know what you want.  We've now won three road games in the MAC.   What exactly do you want???

If you can't enjoy wins, that's on you, bro. If you can't enjoy a close, back and forth game of basketball, perhaps you don't like the game.

Can't complain about this.
Undefeated in league play.
And every game it seems like someone else steps up.

By the way, quality bench play again. Nobody has OHIO's depth in this league.

Kent and WMU may very well end up being #3 and #4 in the conference at the end of the year and we beat them both on the road.

Also...

Kenpom.com has the MAC as the 14th best conference in the country. That's the highest the MAC has been since 2008.

Exactly!  This is a HUGE road win!  And Monroe, weren't you saying a month ago that its road wins you wanted?  Well you just got 3 straight in the MAC.  Big big win tonight!

I'm very, very happy that we are 6-0 in the league.  I'm one of the few on this board that remembers that last time we started a league season 6-0 in 1973-74.  However, it wasn't actually six straight wins, but six straight league victories sandwiched between some non-league losses and wins.  The schedule that year had a little different feel to it than the one we are playing this year; here's that stretch that had OHIO winning six-straight MAC games.  It's probably not what you think (MAC games in red):

EMU, W 73-54
@Utah, L 71-68
@UCLA (#1), L 110-63
@South Carolina (#16), L 80-68
@Ohio State, W 84-79
Ball State, W 99-88
@Kent State, W 81-75
Loyola (Chi), W 76-65
@Wisconsin, L 69-68
Toledo, W 82-72
@Miami, W 73-71
WMU, W 97-55

Boy, I wish we played schedules like that today.

I'll grant that we won a roadie here, so that's good.

Not sure about the quality of the teams that we've beaten on the road.  (And no road wins before conference play began.)

I grant that I may overestimate us.  But I just don't get the number of times that we leave guys open right at the hoop or with an easy one step (4-6 feet) path to an open rim.  We are maddeningly inconsistent.

Also, I don't get ball pressure at 30 feet...especially given how we leave the rim open (which seems to be a result of pressure far outside with no one to backstop at the rim).

And when our bigs seem get the ball about 6-8 feet from the hoop in decent position, they seem largely to have no post moves.  No ability to get a good shot or draw a foul.  Maybe I'm missing something but I'd think that we'd coach guys on post moves.

And, there's something wrong with our offense when we largely ignore looking inside in favor of trying to find an open three shot, with that looking for the three ball often not giving us a good look or alternatives (driving lane, favorable post position).

Tell me that you all don't see these things.  If you do, shouldn't we address them?

I'm not looking for perfection.  I'm a lot less concerned with W's and L's than you might think.  What I look for is that we play well.  (I happen to think that if we play reasonably well then we will achieve a lot of W's.)

I will say last night was one of the more entertaining games of back and forth basketball Ive been witness to.  Of course its easier to say that when we win.

Because when it's done well it completely messes with the other team's timing.  It's why we have been so good at defending the three. It keeps the other team from gettng passes to their players on time. It's also effective in hampering the other team from driving down the lane.

"Well, which is it, young feller? You want I should freeze or get down on the ground? Mean to say, if'n I freeze, I can't rightly drop. And if'n I drop, I'm a-gonna be in motion."

You can't complain that our bigs have no offensive moves in one paragraph and then in the next complain that we don't look inside enough.  But I'd also like to say that I completely disagree with your assessment of our offense.  We lead the nation in FG% because we do get the ball inside.   Plus the other team knows what we want to do and they set their defense to stop it.  Sometimes it takes a while to figure it out. But for the most part we have a really good offense.  The games we lost in December were mostly lost because of defensive breakdowns that seem to have worked themselves out.

Keely had 20 points, all in the paint. Did we watch the same game?

When they switched to zone we had some troubles getting the ball in the post so we settled for some 3's, but I'd say our offense was pretty balanced overall.

I dunno - I have seen Ivo in particular get burned by the roller off the on-top screen where Ivo moves to double pressure the ball Many times this year - roller wide open in the lane (Keely and Smith often also).

Edit: The other issue here is lack of "help" moving to take away the wide open shot at the rim.

Not Edited: Betcha KD & "Kron focusing on this opportunity for next Saturday. We are Very predictable on this.

All that matters is that we are 6-0 in MAC play.

A few key notes: Wilkins shots the 3 pointer at 47.1% as Kellogg shoots its 39%. Kellogg also shoots its 43.6% compared to 46.7% that Wilkins shoots. Kellogg offers better assists, rebounds, steals, and defense than Wilkins though he averages 14.3 minutes longer. I'd say if Wilkins can prove his worth on both sides of the ball, he should get more playing time.

- We started last year 1-2 in the first 3 games of the year with losses at Bowling Green and Akron.

- We didn't lose a game at home last year, but lost 5 MAC games on the road at Bowling Green, Akron, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, and Kent State. This year we didn't play Toledo at Toledo, and we'll play Eastern Michigan at home instead.

- Last year we lost to Akron at Akron 68-63, but killed them at home 85-61.

- We are averaging a whooping 0.9 points better from our starters this year compared to last year, but 3.5 points better from our top five bench players this year compared to last year.

- Kadeem Green has the highest field goal percentage on team with 73.7%, though he's playing junk time

- We are still 1st in all of NCAA in assists, 14th in field goal percentage, 42nd in points per game, and a terrible 310 in rebounds out of 342 teams?

I would take this team this year over last years team.

Okay.  You guys are correct.  Offense is fine.  Defense is fine.  Fundamentals (post moves, defense at the rim) are fine.  We're playing to a high percentage of our capability.

So we are #1 in the country in FG% and #1 in the conference in defense.  Interesting combination.
