I know we have been talking about our team from last year but what about Groce?  He has Illinois looking pretty good and from the three games I've seen, recently against OSU, I think Illinois has a decent chance of going all the way.  What do you think?

All the way?  No way.

Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight, no doubt.

They still rely on the 3 ball a little too much.  They'll win a ton of home games, as they'll shoot pretty well there.  On the road, they'll likely lose to Michigan State, Minnesota, Michigan, and Ohio State.  Wouldn't surprise me to if they shot well in one of those and grabbed a W.

Don't put too much in the OSU win.  The Buckeyes have major flaws, and aren't really that good this season.  I'll predict they finish 5th in the B1G, behind the Illini, fwiw.  UM and IU will battle for #1, and don't sleep in the Golden Gophers.  I think they're legit.  They're uber athletic, and play great D.

How about adding in your choices make it to the dance?

I am not talking about O'Shea, I am talking about Groce and Illinois is no "pass me by" team.

I was looking for that option (make it to the Dance) too.  I'm not so sure it's an absolute given the Fighting Illini will make it to March Madness.  They probably will, but Illinois has lost 2 of their last 4 games.  Maybe they go into a midseason swoon like last year under Bruce Webber.  I voted for Sweet 16, although if there was a "Round of 32" option, I would have voted for that.

Illinois can lose 4-6 games in the B1G, and still probably waltz into a 4/5 seed.  It's a near certainty they'll make the dance (which is the biggest reason Groce left, and made the right move (for him) in doing so).

Round of 32 - One player/shooter shut down by good game plan on neutral court and they are out......................

Geez Tyler, now I am not sure if I am educated and using the newer form of the expression or just plain uneducated?

Per Google:

"How wrong can a writer be?!

So wrong that a Google search of the phrase “could care less” garners 1,930,000 hits. Some of the discussions are quite impassioned. Although the newer form of the expression meaning “not to care at all” has been widely-used for some time, many people still regard it as an uneducated error.

Paul Brians, English professor at Washington State University, points out in an interview with Avi Arditti the difficulty of dealing with idioms that are in the process of changing:

the problem is that as [a new idiom] evolves, you get caught as a user between people who are going with the new pattern and those who know the old pattern and are comfortable with it."

By make it to the dance, I meant no wins.  I do think they will make it,  just not to the sweet 16 as the lower choice.

This would be my vote if it were on the poll.  I'm rooting for John a bunch.  In fact, I caught all kinds of crap from some OSU fan friends on Saturday when I posted about rooting for them.  I think they're good enough without question to go dancing. We'll see after that.  I'd give OSU almost exactly what Ozcat called them - 5th in the B1G.  Tonight's game with Minnesota and Illinois should be a great watch.

Hey, I didn't mean anything by it, haha! Actually, you bring up a good point with that citation.

As a 3 seed Illinois will get upset by 14 seed Bryant in the first round.

Don't look now, but a depleted Northwestern just spanked Groce and the Illini in Champaign, 68-54 - they are now 1-4 in conference.  The BTN announcers are starting to question Groce's team.
