Just was checking out ESPN and the Bobcats page and ESPN has the Kent game listed for 11 AM, but the Ohio site has it at 7 pm. It is a blackout game and an 11 am tip would kill some crowd for what is usually a big draw. Anyone know the true time?

It's listed as an ESPNU game according to ESPN.com's schedule so I would assume that 11am is the legit game time.

This is basically the same thing that happened last year with Ohio's home game vs. Ball State being moved to 11am for ESPNU purposes.

ESPN has it listed as ESPNU; the 11am slot is a MAC slot on that network on that day. I'd guess it has been selected for TV and will be moved to 11.

Edit: Beat me by 8 seconds!

Looks like it got picked up by ESPNU for their 11AM timeslot. That's how it's listed on ESPN.com's schedule for the day.

I remember an 11AM game against Ball State a couple years ago. The crowd was pretty lousy for a Saturday home game, but it was against Ball State. Hopefully the team's performance, paired with the blackout and a matchup against a Kent team who just gave us our most thrilling game of the season, will be enough to overcome the earlier tip.

As an out-of-state fan, I love when our games get national TV coverage. The webcasts and ESPN3 feeds are nice, but an HD broadcast is always better.

Well, if so, that officially takes the excitement out of that game.  Can we tell them to play Poker, Bowling or Strongest Man reruns and just skip us?

As a local fan, I definitely do not like this. We (and the MAC in general) have sold our souls to television. They could tell us to play at 3:00 am and I swear we'd do it.

Who the heck is even looking for live sports on TV at 11:00 am?

This went from possibly being the 2nd largest crowd of the season to a game where we're lucky to get 6,000 in the house. I'll be there, but may still be half asleep!

I really don't see what the big deal is. It's only an hour before ESPN and ESPN2 start broadcasting power conference games. Grab some coffee and get down to the Convo.

I think a lot of our local fans have become too accustomed to the 2PM non-televised football and basketball games. Other schools consistently have noon tips/kickoffs and their fans and students still pack the stands as if it were a night game.

I'm all about getting as many TV games as possible, especially nationally broadcast games. If it means playing at 11AM, so be it.

A subjective analysis of everyone's opinion will vary from person-to-person.  The objective analysis of how fans really feel is determined by the mere counting of how many seats will be filled at an 11am tip vs. a 7pm tip.  While you won't be able to prove it, I can guess with out 99% certainty that the attendance at an 11am tip would be substantially lower than a 7pm tip.  How that's offset by the benefit of having the game on ESPN I'm not for certain, but for families, I can tell you Saturday mornings are typically filled with kids recreation league events.

I think the guess that this game will draw 6,000 at 11am vs. closer to 10,000 at 7pm tells the story.  It's reasonable to assume attendance will drop 25-40% with an 11am tip vs.a 7pm.

True, there are lots of big time programs playing regularly at Noon, but while it's only 1 hour, seeing 11am just feels more than an hour earlier than noon.

11 A.M. oh lordy, I hope i'm out of bed in time. We couldn't at least get ESPN2? I don't know how much more this will get us coverage as I bet people in California are just dying to see us play at 8 in the morning....

Oh, c'mon.  This is silly.

No matter when or where the game is, it's going to inconvience someone.  Boo-hoo.

A different perspective:  There are two constituencies, those who can attend live and those who rely on media ('net or tv or radio, etc).

The former probably always attend in about the same amount or percentage.  Pretty much a static tally.

The other constituency--let's call them out-of-towners--divide two ways.  First, there are those few fanatics here who'll watch no matter when.  Then, there is the real target, the untapped audience of 'non-believers.'

And you're only going to reach them by national TV games.  Has national TV been good for football?

Stop arguing a thing that is already decided.  National TV is beneficial.

Heck, those who gripe about the lack of quality opponents in the Convo gotta be smart enough to know that successful TV exposure is the main way to upscale the quality of opponents.

Someone please insert video of expired quadruped being footed.

Who's watching ESPNU at 11?

The Ball State game last year started at 11:00am and had an attendance of 6,018. Is that bad? Here's how it compared to the other weekend home games with later start times-

Sun 11/13 v UTM- 3,835
Sun 11/20 v ArkSt- 3,455
Sat 123 v Morgan St- 2,786
Sat 1/21 v Miami- 13,011
Sat 1/28 v BSU- 6,018
Sat 2/4 v CMU- 7,581
Sat 2/18 v UNC-Ash- 9,961
Sun 2/26 v Akron- 8,018

Because most of these dates include some kind of promo or special rivalry its hard to measure a specific impact but I think we can agree that an early start is not a total  attendance killer.

Another comparison is how our attendance was for Kent State v this year- least year's turnout was 5,924. I bet we beat that number.

Last year was a Wednesday night, and also fell right before the much-hyped Miami game...so I'm not sure if it's a great comparison. Kent games on a Saturday typically are 8,000+.

Fans don't matter to the MAC.  Being on TV so you can tell recruits you were on TV is what matters.

I got hooked on the Syracuse/Nova 11am game on ESPNU Saturday, and glad I did.  It turned out to be a great game.  It's a good slot, and with the bottom feeders in the MAC this year we need to accomodate ESPN/STO to get the better teams televised as much as possible.

Downside, it might be too early for the OZone to wooooh after made baskets.

I like TV games, and I'll be there no matter what, but I won't lie - I'm disappointed in an 11am.  I love late afternoon or evening tips. It allows fans to spend some time uptown before the game and get "game ready".  I personally wish we'd have more games that tipped between 4pm and 7pm for the sake of attendance and atmosphere.  But, having this one on ESPN, especially assuming the team's play continues as it is now, is a great thing for Ohio.

This blows.  I was in for this +8.  Now, not so sure, considering 3 were coming from Louisville.

Pub lunch at noon followed by 5 hours of pregaming for a 7PM tip > Leaving Columbus at 9AM

Schaus.  Call ESPN.  Tell them, "Thanks, but no thanks."

this might affect attendance by 2K. There's no way that many people will watch it on TV, right? c'mon, its one game, think big picture.

I know most of you overlook this because you still live in the Eastern Time Zone, but for me this is now a 10am tip.  9am for Mountain time, and 8am Pacific.

This makes it hard on alumni, but also if the idea is to get exposure maybe we shouldn't be playing games when half the country is still in bed.

Isn't this sibs' weekend as well? Does the time change make a difference for the sibs planning on attending?
