With the season winding down the award winners are starting to take focus.  Here is how I see it:

MAC POTY
D.J. Cooper - Marshall will get heavy support and my guess is that the media will give it to him if Akron wins the regular season. But Cooper is the better overall player and would have a much bigger effect if he were removed from the team.

MAC COTY
Tod Kowalcyk - The way I see it, this is a three horse race between Kowalcyk, Steve Hawkins and Keith Dambrot. Hawkins has had the biggest improvement in wins this year and Dambrot's team could possibly have a historic year but I think Kowalcyk has done the best job. With his team facing a postseason ban it would have been easy for them to lose focus. They only have one senior playing any kind of minutes yet they find themselves tied with Western for the West lead. Winners of five of their last six and a favorable schedule down the stretch they are the odds on favorites to win the West.

MAC ROTY
Darius Paul - He looked extremely talented when we played up there in January.  I remember thinking that I was glad that he didn't seem to be a bigger part of their offense because his numbers didn't mesh with what I was seeing on TV. Still he had a nose for the ball and was in the right place at the right time quite a bit.

MAC 1st Team
If I recall they just pick the top five vote getters and not by position.
1. D.J. Cooper
2. Zeke Marshall
3. Javon McCrea
4. Chris Evans
5. Demetrius Treadwell

Treadwell probably won't make it in the real voting but IMO he's the X factor for Akron. Rian Pearson, Kyle Randall are both better scorers but I think Treadwell brings more to the table.

Opinions?

Zeke's not the best player on his own team.  If he win POTY over Coop, it's a travesty.

And I think Zeke has improved greatly.  He's a big piece to their success, but without Treadwell, they have 2-3 losses in MAC play.

Assuming we beat Akron at home, the DJ vs Zeke arguments should be intense.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Which raises the question - if we get swept, what chance does Cooper have for POY?

+1.  I had an "argument" in Twitter with a Zip twit about this.  Treadwell is the most important player for them, and for most teams, the toughest matchup when he's on the floor with Zeke.
