What are your opinions on reseeding during the MAC tourney?  I was thinking about this today and wondered what the consensus was.   It probably makes less sense with all the byes, but in looking at the second round this year, we could end up with 5 vs 8 and 10 vs 11 in the second round.  I was thinking it may work if you reseed between rounds 1 and 2 only.  That way there wouldn’t be any sudden game time / opponent changes in Cleveland, but you still give the best teams the best chance to advance.  Thoughts?

My Humble Opinion: I've never been a fan of re-seeding in the middle of a tournament. If the 10 and 11 seeds go on the road and beat the 6 and 7 seeds, they've earned the right to play each other.

Having said that, I'd be more open to reseeding in a conference tournament as opposed to the NCAA or other post season tournament. At least for a conference tournament, the seeding isn't based on human opinion.

Definitely not now with the top 2 seeds getting byes to semi's, but I don't think I'd like it even if still used old format. I think the bye's are enough protection/reward for top teams.  They need to earn the tourney from there on out and not worry if the other team gets to play a 6th seed instead of the 4th seed.

Giving the higher seeds byes accomplishes all you need.  I think you either reseed or give byes, not both.

I personally rail at the idea of reseeding. Always have, always will. For many reasons.

Play it like it falls.

Could not agree more.  Whoever came up with the idea of reseeding probably came up with the idea of every kid gets a trophy.  Very dumb idea.

Reseeding strikes me as on the opposite end of the spectrum of everyone gets a trophy.

And I'll be the contrarian. I'm in favor of it.

hahah if you were to be contrarian you would oppose it. To swim against the stream is totally expected of you.

I suppose...

I'm surprised I'm the only one on this side of it. Oh well. I'm not unhappy with the current format. But if came to a vote, I'd check "yes."

I'd agree on doing one of bye/reseed but not both. Both are ways of favoring your top seeds, doing both seems excessive.

Take an idea which has worked as planned and which has brought excitement--and re-work it.  Good idea.  You'll have great success in the business world.

Successful businesses DO change things that work in order to stay ahead of the curve.

They also change things because the relevant manager feels like he's got to put his own stamp on things. New Coke.

New Coke happened because they misinterpreted market research, not because of any ego trip.

General, usually untrue statement (smart firms don't change unless for good reason).  How does it apply here anyway?

Good question. Why did you bring it up?

Nice non-answer.

If/when you join the real world, you'll know that there is far more change away from success by businesses for 'we-gotta-do-something' type bad reasons than for good reasons.

Re the MAC tourney which is fine and which hasn't even started, that is the case.  Find a better use for your time than fixing the unbroken.

So you bring up something and then expect me to justify how it applies? How does that work?

I didn't bring it up. Someone asked and I gave my answer. I even said I don't think it's a big deal. You're the one making a fuss.

Actually if you don't constantly look to change and improve your business you are moving backwards in today's world.  That said, not sure this is a change that is necessary.  Now reseeding the Final Four is different discussion.

Certainly, given low interest rates and the large cash on the balance sheet of many companies, it's a good time to consider aquisitions...that type of change.

How that compares with having the answer for everything and being dead-set certain that your opinions are CORRECT is another matter.

Acquisitions, product extension/development, market expansion, distribution efficiency, anything to increase the value of the brand and business.  Question is does reseeding increase the value of the conference or tournament?

Nowhere have I claimed my opinion is correct in this matter. It's merely my preference.

I withdraw my response if you were talking about yourself.
