I'm a spending fool when it comes to Ohio Athletics, but the new courtside seats seem pretty ouchy to me.

$900 per seat donation to have a bunch of students breathing down my neck?  Sort of sketchy on the details of other benefits of these seats...seems like they haven't completely figured it out yet.  Would love to be that close to the action, though.  Might have to start slicking my hair back like Jack.

I'd rather have students and O Zoners breathing down the opponents neck - than a bunch old timers/one game at a time entertained guests/one game a year attendees who may not really be fans in those seats - don't like 'em at all................

The seats are a great idea and the price is fair, but here's the problem:

OUR OLD TIMERS SUCK.

The people that sit in the tower at Peden are the angriest, snottiest, rudest bunch of hilljacks you've ever met in your life.  If those people sit in the Black Seats god help us all.

During the Marshall game, there were several attempts made to stand on big Defensive 3rd downs (there were few granted) and each time we were greeted with "SIT DOWN" from literally 9 rows back. That's a g-damn joke if you have to tell someone to sit down 9 rows behind you at a football game.

I'll say this, it's going to come to a nasty verbal altercation at some point with some of the younger people in the section who actually want to stand up during the football game vs the people who think they are at Les Mis or watching the Queens Benevolent Philharmonic.

Circling back, I guess I'm saying that I hope cool rich people buy the seats instead of the crusty bastards who occupy the tower seats behind me at Peden.

The part that kills me every time is how the students stand for the game and sit for halftime, while the "old timers" sit no matter what during the game as you point out, but stand up for halftime.

The only cool rich person I know is Bobcat Love.

I sat in those seats a couple times last year during the trial run.  They are a good idea, but I'm not sure if the price point is correct.  I had four seats and it was me, my wife and my two boys (8 & 10).  Love was there one of those games with his wife.  I have faith in our ability to be good, engaged fans.  My problem is that my wife does not want to pay strict attention at all times, which means she is subject to a ball in the face or power forward in her lap.  My youngest is the same way, so I cannot sit in those seats that often.  I'll have to evaluate the cost to see if we want them at all this season.

As far as Peden, I'll echo what Love is saying.  Sometimes, I look across the stands as key defensive 3rd downs are starting.  I can see about 20 regulars in 3 sections standing up and making noise.  It's pathetic.  I'll never move up to the Tower Seats for that reason.  I can sit without a chair-back for 3 hours.  I think to get those seats, you should have to audtition.  Letterman and Leno do that for the first few rows of their audience to make sure they get the right atmosphere closest to the action.

Sorry I don't make it back enough to be standing with you in my Tower seats Love, and you can use my Black Seats any time you want, as they will be largely empty, improving the O Zoner's view shed significantly. (and I'll make sure not to give them to any curmudgeons to use)

The problem isn't with the Tower Seats.  It happens all over the stadium.  I hear it in the Phillips seats, too, more than I ever did in the old reserved sections.  Face it, people who are shelling out extra cash for "exclusive" and comfortable seats have pretty much already decided they don't like the staduim bleacher atmosphere.  They opt for comfort.

In my defense, I have Philips seats because they're close to the field and because I might as well get something for my Bobcat Club bucks.  I stand tall and often from beginning to end.  I'm not very popular in my section.

This is kinda OT, but have they set the prices for season tickets yet?  Where can I find them?

Thanks.

From my experience, if this occurs, you would want to vacate quickly towards center court.

No.  You don't flee; you participate in the big game win storming of the court.

Standing all game is good.  Let the others stay home in their tomb-like, unenthusiastic state and watch it on TV.

Then there's the Browns' fan who got removed for standing.

Oh. I get it.  It's supposed to be like golf with no fan expression of emotion.

No.

It wasn't that long ago that there were tables in front of the student seating. And it didn't stop them from storming the court.

FWIW, I got to try out the on-court seats a couple games last year, and they are awesome.

I'm just concerned someone in these seats is going to take offense to the O Zone's language/tone...  You can't hear everything said across the court...  You can hear everything said directly in front of the O Zone.  If anyone in these seats takes offense and says something about it, you are going to see a very unpleasant Optimist....

Heh. Have you ever been in that situation, Monroe? Sometimes, even if you want to storm, you really are fleeing.

Both of my experiences, from the front row or two with the mass of bodies behind me, had elements of both. Never forget either one.

George Mason -- Bubba Walther ended up with a sombrero.

Miami -- Winning team feels even better from center court after Freeman rips the heart out of your rival.

I've only stormed twice... Once in high school when our team one the league title, and the Miami game.  The high school game was more of a controlled rush, because we knew as the clock was winding down it was going to happen...

Miami was chaos.  I was standing on the first row of benches in the O Zone.  I remember jumping so high when Freeman hit the 3 I almost messed my leg up landing on the court.  I don't even remember Miami's full-court prayer....  Then my legs started moving...  No thought to it.  I glanced left in slow motion and remember seeing others coming with me.  Next thing I know I'm among hundreds of others at center court.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Imagine having a row of old codgers sitting in between the court and the Ozone during that Miami game...there would have been some definite injuries and lawsuits to follow. I'm all about having the athletic department do what they can to fill seats, but I feel like it's only a few short years away before the Ozone gets ousted to the seating behind both hoops much like many other schools.

It's sad really because as you can see from the gestures of Akron players after the game the last few years, we do have a significant effect on many of the opposing teams we play.

How about a 40 year old dressing like a clown to a college game? Some of you know I was one to paint up when I was a student but I wouldn't be caught dead looking like this at an Ohio game anymore.

I'm in, with 2 seats on the baseline.  Don't want to be trampled (or heckled) by students.  Sounds like they're going to have a pre-game "chalk talk" session with a coach prior to every game for those who sit in these seats.  I have a similar benefit through my tickets for the Cleveland Orchestra - meet the conductor beforehand, etc.

Don't think a lawsuit would have any merit whatsoever -- isn't all that jazz cleared up on the back of your ticket?

As far as injuries go, I'd be more concerned about those folks with a power forward in their laps, as close as they are to the court.  I still remember DeVaughn landing three rows deep in the O Zone chasing an out of bounds ball.
