So my best friend is a Grad Assistant who helps out with the Akron Basketball team, he practices with them and will simulate the other teams point guards (cooper, crawford, etc). So he gives me the inside scoop to everything Akron Basketball. He told me that Brian Walsh injured his ankle today in a walk through and will most likely NOT play in the bracketbuster game on friday against NDST.  Also noted to me that Chauncey Gillam had knee surgery after the Kent State game so he is also slowly coming back. I know this is my first post but just thought i would share what i know. I know the Akron game is a week away but its hard not to think about.

Akron is so deep that this shouldn't be a huge deal for them unless Walsh is out an extended period of time. Might even be a good opportunity for Kretzer and McAdams to get a little more playing time and experience.

Yeah unfortunately that's the problem. Akron has a lot of depth this year with the sharpshooting McAdams (37% from 3-pt), and Kretzer (33% from 3-pt), should be interesting to see if they get extended minutes depending on the severity of the Walsh injury.

Just want to provide some evidence and that this is all legit about the Walsh injury. On Brian Walsh's twitter he says...

Might be a good thing in disguise; Walsh really hasn't played very well this year.

@MommaZeke? She scares me.

I've never been too worried about Walsh ever since he transferred there from Xavier. He's got a good frame and a nice shooting stroke, but there's something miss. A friend at X told me "he's the best practice and warm up player on the team. Once he gets in the game it all disappears."

I'm still happy Walsh missed that little jumper with us up one late in the title game. Had a great look at it.

Mama Zeke scares Zeke, too.  There's been lots of speculation in Akron that she's counting on his NBA career more than he is and that he'd really just rather be a college student.  She posts daily on the ZipsNation.org bulletin board.

That, and Abreu making the second free throw late helped too...

I find it interesting that many up there assume he'll have an NBA career.  Because of his height, he'll get a shot obviously, but a career?  I wouldn't bet the farm on it yet.

I disagree with this from what I've seen. He has a lower turnover rate and a higher shooting % than he did last year. His 3pt% is down, but he's still the only Zip over 40%. Plus he's been hot recently, averaging 13 ppg over the last 3 games.

Who is speculating this?  Just sounds like a mom that is very proud of her kid and wants him to succeed.  She is very confident that the Zips make a big run in the NCAA tourny.  Moms at sporting events can be very scary and this is not unusual.  Who cares if she posts on ZipsNation?  Don't get carried away with your OWN speculations.

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.

I live in Akron and have a few contacts, including with the play-by-play team and beat reporter. She's not exactly Gloria James, but she ain't no shrinking violet either.
