I was wondering how this Senior class stood up against some of the other great teams over time so I decided to do a little research.  The NCAA started allowing Freshman to play in the 1972-73 season making the first four year class the 1975-76 season.  Since then here is how each Senior class ranks from 1 to 38.   It essentially boils down to Danny Nee's mid-80s team, Gary Trent and the Seniors we have now.

Rank Season W L W-L% NCAA Tournament Coach(es) 4 year wins 4 year losses 4 year winning %

Saw in the Beacon Journal a few days ago that Akron has had 7 senior classes win at least 90 games.  One of those classes played for Bob Huggins and the other six for Dambrot.

I'm only seeing 85 wins for Huggins' team.  Their last six teams, including this year, have won 90 though.

So last year's team had the highest single season # wins and winning percentage.  And this year's team currently has the 2nd highest winning percentage and is tracking for first or second most wins.  Junior and senior year is when players own their team.  Well played gentlemen!

Particularly when they enter as freshmen from high school.  Four year players who play well together, go to class and stay out of the police records have a tendency to endear themselves to fans young and old.  This group has set a very high bar and in my mind puts them in the same glass as the Nee years.  I can only go back to 1979 so I can't speak from an informed point of view about those before that.  This has been an exciting run that I hope keeps going deep into March.

If you go back the the UCLA Bruins and John Wooden some of his teams when the seniors only played 3 years probably had 90 wins with the streaks they had. Can any one here confirm this ? What is the NCAA record for wins by a senior class ?

It’s crazy to know this class is winding down their careers man. I hope we have “turned the corner” as some say in producing this kind of talent year in and year out (most of us agree OHIO has the best to offer). Something about these Seniors that is just special. I’m in my 4th decade as a Bobcat and really liked some of the classes produced over the years but this one is tops for me. As many of you have witnessed over the years, we have had the muscle many times and/or the finesse at forward but never the total offering. We could stand a bigger center to make this group complete but I’ll take big Reggie with no complaints. We have lost so many big games over the years because the other team had the better back court. Not this class baby! If Nick gets back to his old self over the next few weeks, our back court is second to none and can turn a game in a NY minute (or give it away by lobbing up 3pt miss after 3 pt miss). DJ is the catalyst. Could you imagine DJ delivering the rock on the Gary Trent Teams? It would have made my 500 mile drive to DC much more enjoyable to see us play IU. Love these guys! I only played BB thru HS but always loved to lace'em up in Grover every weekend. I never coached either. But as a dedicated fan over the years, I have come to know one thing - guards win titles.
