Me, I'm in the "This game barely mattered" camp. Whatever. It has no bearing on Wednesday and will be forgotten after we beat Akron.

Getting embarrassed on national television should matter.  The players and coach should have pride.  Memphis, Mass. Oklahoma, Akron, now Belmont.

Houston we have a problem.

I guess the secret to a happy life is to have low expectations.

Everything you said is true, but it doesn't make this any less disappointing and somewhat embarrassing.

And Jim Christian's ability to beat top notch competition remains very much in question.

I  hear you and I have no real problem with your viewpoint.

I just personally have never settled for caring one bit about whether we dominate the MAC.

I have always been about making O.U a national presence.

I'm just not a "I was born in small town" minded kind of person

We could have won this by 80, and the MAC is still a 1 bid league thanks to the fact that the other 10 teams are absolutely dreadful. There was nothing to gain or lose.

All that matters is Wednesday, and arguably you could even say all that really matters is the third week in March, as that's the only way into the NCAA Tournament and the semifinal bye is a foregone conclusion.

This coach's demeanor and attitude on the sideline is disgusting!!  He could have made Michael Jordan not want to play!

I'm in the camp that didn't expect to win this game because I didn't expect Christian to be able to coach in this game. I would argue that Christian may have been a good coach 10 years ago, that he has not caught up to the times. He will never have another 20 win season at Ohio. I hope I'm wrong.

I agree....ultimately this game does not and should not change what is OUr main goal....beating Kron...getting a 1 or at worst 2 seed for tourney, winning it and getting the MACs only bid to the dance....

ESPN2 coverage is great but sometimes your just simply the second best team on the court...and thats what we were tonight.

why the hell are our starters still in the game when we're down 20 with 3 minutes left???  And we're trying to press full-court? (about 20 minutes too late) Are you kidding me?  This coaching staff is complete garbage!  We don't have anything that resembles a quality win on this season.

I know anything can happen, hence the term March madness...but man oh man this type of loss at this point in the season cannot be a good sign.

One positive I noted from this game...Jon Smith.  He needs more minutes.  He literally wants to dunk everything he gets his hands on in the paint, and if Ivo and Reggie had 1/2 of that desire we'd be a different team inside.

What would Charles Barkley do?

I'm in this camp as well.  I want us to dominate the competition whenever we're on national TV.  I don't want to settle for just that MAC.  I want us at such a level that when I'm walking down the street in some obscure city (none can come to mind) in another state with an OHIO shirt, people will instantly recognize that it's Ohio University and not O$U (some people still can't seem to differentiate).  I want us to be that high mid-major team that teams do not take lightly, that announcers do not fumble with the facts and make stuff (when they don't know said fact) up that'll cause us to tear our hair out.  Yes, winning the MAC should be one of the main goals of any coach coming in.  Winning on national tv should also be a main goal.

The opposing team sucks!

I hate this team right now. There I said it. I hate the coaching. I hate the effort. I hate the on court leadership. I hate Vince Gill. I hate everything about Ivo Baltic's game. I hate the bickering after turnovers. I hate the too cool for school attitude. I hate the pretzels. I hate how seemingly every semi big game some random stiff gets hot from 3 point land against us. I hate the announcers. I hate the rotations and substitutions. I hate Belmont and their khaki's.

Now I feel better. Lets beat Akron.

How can anyone say it means nothing? Beyond national exposure, wins & losses = seeding. Doubt we'll have to worry about that, though.

This game was the worst Ohio performance I've seen in years.   We will be lucky to get an NIT bid this year.  We will probably lose in the first round of the NIT, or CBI, or whatever second rate tournament we get into.  JC will never win a post-season game at Ohio.  Our basketball program is going down the tubes.  The sky is falling.  We don't stand a chance against Akron on Wednesday.  The attendance will be > 3,000, as no one will want to go to that game after this game.  Did I say the sky is falling.   I'm trying my best to overreact.  How am I doing?

I agree with you that this was not really a meaningful game considering that March is what matters, but I'm VERY concerned to how we played.  Forget the final result.  We tried battling back but it looked like we didn't even want to play defense on several possessions.  They moved the ball around the court and scored absolutely at will on us.  They were tonight the team we should have been all season.

I hate that we were stomped by a team from a school whose most famous alumni are Trisha Yearwood and Brad Paisley.  And I hate Vince Gill, too.

We played tonight like EMU did Wednesday.  Lackluster, like we didn't want to be there.  I'm hoping this is a game we had to get out of our system heading down the stretch in the MAC.

I agree OCF. But then again > 3,000 could mean 7,000, or 10,000 or even 30,000.

Or did you mean < 3,000?

I hope you are correct. When you prove that you are correct, I will admit that I have no future in meteorology or any other predictive field. Until we win the MAC and games like this and 20 a season, I will be a hater. If you go back to read my posts from when he was first hired to his recruiting, I have and will continue to question this hire until I'm proven wrong and will then admit it. Again, I will love the day I can exclaim to the world that I was wrong.

Yes, I was being dyslexic, I meant < 3,000, and that was probably being optimistic.  Hey, on a positive note, with the semester system, we might well host a first round NIT game!

I will not prove you wrong, he and the team will.  You and I have no impact on the situation - we are just fans and poster.  A good sign of the future is the recruiting class he is bringing in.  On paper  - nothing short of excellent by MAC standards  Now we will see what happens going forward.  FYI - 20 wins a season is not a high bar at all.

Those of you defending this team at all and saying this meant nothing are either too intoxicated to understand yourselves or absolutely, without a doubt, the biggest optimists ever. Or you're the guy who lived next door to me at Fenzel House my freshman year whose room was always full of funky smelling smoke :) This was huge for us. ESPN2 as the nightcap and ender to the last Bracketbusters. It was billed as the big D.J. showing. We were predicted to win by ESPN pundits! I know it doesn't matter in the scheme of NCAA Tourney at large hopes but dangit, this team didn't freakin show up again and it's getting old. We will lose by 10 Wednesday. Mark it down, seal it and deliver it to Dambrot!

Ugly game.  Nothing changes.  Wednesday couldn't come any sooner.  Stay behind this team.

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.
