After Akron's barrage tonight, opposing teams are shooting .339 from 3-point range against us this year. We finished last season at .294. That's a huge jump - going from one of the best (correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we lead the nation in opponents' 3-point percentage last year?), to a rank in the 180s in Division I. Akron in particular has killed us, shooting .441 in their two wins.

That 3-point defense, combined with our ability to trap in the post, covered a lot of sins last year. Not sure where the breakdowns are coming this season, but if the coaching staff can't figure it out, I don't see how we can beat Zippy in the MAC tourney. You can't coach size - Akron's bigger than us across the front line. But if you give them the perimeter, too, then God help us.

We were due for some regression- no matter how good your defense is, you don't allow a percentage that low without some luck. But we seem to be helping in the paint more and aren't able to recover in time.

I stated earlier our poor ball screen hedging. It's ruining our rotations.

I don't know, but I wonder if we wouldn't be better suited to sit low on the ball screen and force the on the ball defender to run harder over the ball screen. Don't know.

We just seem to be chasing a lot on defense. I saw some pretty good rotations tonight, but we work so hard defending the ball that, and this is just a random guess, that teams are getting to the wing and forcing weak side to collapse to the box. This means that we are a simple down screen for a shooter to pop out weak side.

Don't know. I may just be digging this out of my ass. I just see a lot of Ohio defenders running at shooters from the low block (and this is my hypothesis).
