As I watch again the Bobcats fall behind because they cannot rebound.  Please Jim Christain work on rebounding for the next few days.

Yep.  I agree...lack of rebounding certainly cost us this game.  Man oh man did we fight hard though.  Huge effort from Wilkins and Smith off the bench.  As painful as it is to say, Akron is a pretty darn good team...Treadwell is an animal.

What would Charles Barkley do?

I'm more worried that he doesn't know how to handle adjustments made by the other team.

OT without the opposing teams most dominant player and you can't draw up anything to have the leagues best player take over.

Can we get a refund on the money we spend on him?

JC looked like a mental midget tonight at many times.

I mean we paid a huge increase to hire a guy who was the coach at what is now one of the worst programs in college basketball.

JC thought he could just show up get all these accolades, a raise and then leave. What a bad hire.

My older brother ('71) once gave me some great, approopriate advice:  "Hey, stupid, don't be incredibly stupid, stupid."

I believe that this is true.

I understand some criticism or questioning of JC.  It's part of the territory.

But you are not very observant if you draw the firm conclusion that he was a bad hire or should be fired.  The jury is on that is a long, long ways away.  And it may come out with two ripping thumbs up.

Bad coaching is what we experienced in football a few coaches back.  Bad is when you are consistently not competitive against really bad competition.  If you think that's what's going on now in hoops, please re-visit the advice that my brother ('71) gave me.

When I'm completely and whole-heartedly agreeing with Monroe's thoughts, and HE is the one trying to calm the herd, you should know that you're way, way off base.

OUr boys played their asses off. Sometimes you lose.

Hopefully you guys aren't Butler fans. Brad Stevens may not have job bc he lost two straight NCAA Tourney Final games . . .

I can see why the Love and medler have taken sabbaticals.  This board gets downright delusional at times.  Go Bobcats

I promised myself that I would wait at least a few days until I posted about this game.  Akron had 36 rebounds and we had 35.....  And you are complaining still about rebounding.... If anything, we improved on rebounding against a team that thrives on rebounding....  36-35.... That's all..

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.

Does anyone have the halftime/OT splits on rebounding?  It "felt" like we got outrebounded badly in the 2nd half.

I think we were up 6 rebounding at the half.  So, yes, second half they took it from us on the glass.  The other thing I noticed was numerous times the ball went thru 3-4-5 guys hands and Akron ended up with the ball and/or got an easy hoop.

Rebounding has been a big issue all year for this team. A team cannot simply win by making shots. Defense, more specifically perimeter D, has also been a noticeable issue for this team since Christian arrived. If we could figure out how to FINISH games, play perimeter D, rebound, and actually execute offense better, this team could win the MAC tournament. Not sure how confident I am with JC at the helm, though. I am trying to have as much faith as possible. During a pivotal part of last night's game, JC had his hands on his hips, where Groce would have been going crazy, slapping the scorer's table, doing Groce-like things. I'm sorry, but JC just doesn't have all that much enthusiasm on the sidelines.

I like the idea that college basketball players can't perform is some dude in a suit isn't going nuts on the sideline. How do you explain Butler's success? When's the last time Mark Few went ballistic? Some people can convey in a single raised eyebrow what it takes another person 10 sailor curses.

^^ this ^^

Akron is a better team. They outplayed us. They outcoached us. This game was one shot block/foul call/missed dunk away from a victory. We had our chances. What will be interesting is that if we meet in the finals, will they be able to pull off a third win? Hard to do it thrice in one season...

Point taken JSF, but these players really have lacked the motivation and encouragement they had last year. I just don't see Christian motivating them like Groce did. The past is the past and we have to deal with the cards we're dealt. I have a valid point, and many others have noticed how this year feels very different even though we returned everyone.

Groce was so motivating last year that we were 11-2 in conference play at this stage . . .

People who complain about JC's demeanor apparently have watched very little basketball in their lives.  JC's demeanor on the sideline is exactly the same as it was from 2002-2008, when he was consistently handling the MAC.

set of seniors that have the best record of any class and have an opportunity to get back to the dance.  If they need motivation from a guy n a suit on a sideline, then they are not the players we think. So I am not going to sit here and listen to you bad mouth these players with the claim THEY need motivated.

This is far from a perfect (or even fair) comparison, but it popped into my head and intrigued me. What would you say to someone, presumably a child of yours, who told you they were struggling in a class because the professor didn't motivate them enough?

I'd go back even further Dragon (hope that doesn't offend you).  How about guys like Dean Smith and John Wooden?  Just because you jump around like a jack-in-the-box doesn't make you a great coach.  I'm a big fan and friend of John Groce and I admire his philosophy and approach to the game.  You can't judge what a guy does by how he "acts" for 40 minutes on the sidelines.  The folks who want a screamer/yeller/in the face of a ref type of coach in my opinion, have watched way to much SportsCenter or listened to way too much talk radio or spent too much time on chat boards.  True coaching takes place in practice, time outs and in that quiet passing on the court in and out of a game.

I have watched plenty of basketball, no doubt about that. Just posting about what I have seen. No reason to infer that I have watched "little basketball".They were obviously a different team under Groce. Like I said, we have to deal with the cards we are dealt. No need to say I've watched little basketball when I have watched a great deal of it. My opinion isn't the same as yours, and that's that.

Correlation does not imply causation.  Have you considered other factors other than the head coach which could be reponsible for the team not performing to your expectations?
