Anyone else concerned about the lack of FT opportunities per game? I don't have solid stats that others have, but I've noticed that they seem to be outshot at the line by a wide margin. Last night, CMU had more than 3x as many chances. I'm worried about this discrepancy come tourney time.

Good to see Offutt coming around and Ivo playing well coming off the bench.

It's a product of being a more perimeter-oriented offense.  Jump shooters don't get fouled a lot.  People get fouled taking the ball to the basket and being aggressive attacking the rim.

Agree that we should expect less attempts the way we play. What's more concerning to me is our percentage once we get to the line. If we're going to the stripe less, gotta make them count.

I do not really get why people seem so pleased with Ivo versus CMU.  He did go at the basket several times, but his production was minimal.GFs  4/12,  FTs 0/3 and 3 TOs.  Dropped several passes, didn't always explode around the goal to finish or even shoot it.  I understand that everyone wants him to succeed, but are we so desperately wanting this that we accept from him what might not be viewed so favorably if it came from someone else?  I'm hoping his lack of success at the line doesn't deter him from driving in the future.  It's so clearly a mental thing when you watch him step into and shoot the ball confidently from the top of the key.  Hard to understand.

We took 20 free throws.  CMU took 21.  My mathematical skills tell me that 20 x 3 does not equal 21.

I don't like to see anyone missing free throws, ever.  In my mind they are free points you are giving away by not making them.  Ivo at least getting to the line tells me he's being a little more aggressive.  You don't get fouled shooting 14' fade-aways.  Even if he's not making a high percentage from the line, think about how huge it would be against a team like Akron to be aggressive at the basket around Marshall and Treadwell.  Get either of those two (or both) in foul trouble and they are a completely different team.  Ivo shooting mid range jumpers puts no pressure on bigs to foul, and Treadwell/Marshall in no foul trouble is a significant disadvantage to us.

This.  We may be able to get away with it now, but not in March.

I must've read the box score wrong (or it was wrong on ESPN mobile). This is why I got a D in stats class (and why is it a PSY class?)

Guys can take a benching two different ways -- they can sulk about it and let it continue to impact them negatively or they can take it as a kick in the shorts and try to up their game. He didn't have a great game and can play much better, but I liked that he is choosing to contribute off of the bench. 8 points off the bench in three straight games isn't bad -- especially when he was held scoreless in the last two games he started.

FT were way out of whack until the last 5 minutes when CMU started fouling (and we finally stopped).  I think it was 20 vs 9 at one time...

As for ivo vs CMU, i tend to agree he played differently but that was not a very good game statistically or to the "trained eye" for all the reasons noted...lousy shooting per centage, missed lay ups, drops and poor defense to name a few..

I think that in most games much of the difference between our FT total and our opponents' is the number of two-shot fouls each team gets before getting to the bonus.  The opponents always seem to get more FTs early on in each half because they get fouled in the act more.  That has a lot to do with our reliance on the perimeter game.

Many of those early fouls are of the "in shooting" type.  Maybe we need to learn when to just let the guy get the layup (ala NBAers).  Many of the fouls are also just defenders being lazy and not moving their feet.  We just reach, grab and slap way to much (I know we get some steals outta that approach).

That is what I said at the game. Miami between missed bunnies and missed FT's did everything they could o give us that game. I ealize that is how they played all year but it certainly kept the door open for us to stay in it.

Add to that the fact that several of their players ONLY have a right hand and absolutely can not dribble with the left resulting in stevie and coop picking their pockets 4 straight possessions and you have a tremendous source of frustration for a coaching staff. #4 went right , retreated, went right, retreated,, went right. spun left with his right and came back right. . ...the only time I saw him go with left hand was about 4 mins left he put the ball on the deck down the left side of the lane for 3 driblles. Amazing from a D1 guard.

Parents .....take note..... dribbling goggles and use Pistol Petes HOMEWORK BASKETBALL series... and if you are playing in the driveway ....always give them a clear lane to the hoop going left and swat em if they come right. They will get the left hand figured out pretty quick.

Yeah but I like his basic vids. They are timeless. Much better than the current day vids that show you how to freeze the ball in mid air and cross over with good technique BEFORE you have even figured out how to grow an off hand.

Traveling on your "freeze ball."

If I can just pick it up (freeze ball) or not get called on a travel for the two feet-moving first step, I'm about impossible to stop.
