No to CBI or CIT

If we don't make the NIT, we shouldn't go to the CBI or CIT. It was an embarrassment the last time we went and it wasn't worth the time, effort or money. If the athletic department reads this, please let the season end.

If DJ Cooper struggles in the first round of a third tier post season tourney, that would be damaging to the program. Going from a Sweet 16 team to getting whooped in the first round of the CIT, that would be the headline of the program for a decade.

In addition, if the team wanted to keep playing in the post season, they wouldn't of turned in that performance last night. That was an F. The "idiotic statement" of the week was the second half of the MAC championship.

They played Delaware, Penn and Pitt and parlayed that into a National Championship run....oops make that 2.

If you are not convinced by anything I have said so far consider Wright State.. ..thought they were too good for the CBI and turned down the bid ......going places aren't they?....and lastly.... we played post season in 08 and 11. I know for fact both of those years provided lessons and experience that had a lasting effect on the kids who participated.

ALet's just stop with the "it's an insult to play in these tourneys" before it even gets started. All it shows is how little you know about the world of college basketball and what they provide to building a program.

Despite my complete shock and ensuing depression upon learning last night's results, I will watch this team in whatever post-season we end up in. Be it the NIT, CBI, or CIT I will watch them and cheer hard for them. Hell, it could be a thing full of DIII and high school caliber teams and I will cheer my ass off watching us destroy them. Bring on whatevers next.

Many good mid-major teams and even BCS conference teams have played in the CBI or CIT. Borna mentioned some of them. Teams like Butler, VCU, Creighton, St Louis, Pittsburgh, and Oregon have played in the CBI. I don't know why we would think we are above those tournaments.

People keep forgetting, half this board was very critical of Groce each season until the post-season. Hell, I remember last year that many were criticizing his rotation and when we lost to BG and EMU half the board even questioned if we'd go anywhere. I'll go even further, when we lost to Kansas in whatever that one tournament was named during the holidays almost 2 years ago (it was the year after we beat Georgetown) many people thought that just because we toppled the #3 seed in the NCAA meant we were ready to take on everyone else. We do something good and suddenly people think that anything short of a repeat is unacceptable. Stuff happens, we didn't have a repeat run. We'll get back to the dance eventually.

I have a thought. As long as it doesn't cost the Ohio University one additional dollar to play. I'm good. So we could do a fundraiser to raise the money to play. I mean how much could it cost to play in the post-season.

$50,000, that's not much.. If we pull our resources that means if everybody on the board would donate $50 we could go. That's not bad...

Bradley, YSU, Kent, eLON, Fairfeild, UC Irvine, Loyola MD, Hartford and RIder in CIT so far. Cal Poly a maybe..... Delaware turned down CBI and CIT. EKU anxious to play in any of them, New Wright St Coach not going to look at it like his predecessor,

South Alabama is ecstatic to play TUlane Wednesday

UWGB has Bradley , interesting line form the paper

Fan interest in anything other than the NCAA tournament can be tepid, but for a team like the Phoenix — which has only one senior and is expected to be one of the Horizon League favorites next season — the CIT can serve as a building block. The tournament features 32 teams from outside the power conferences.

These are 32 spots for teams outside the Major conferences. THe CIT is defeinitely a place to build your team for next year especially if they are a younger squad that can get toruney ecxperience.

What you did not include was the follow up which made us money on several follow up games as part of the college insider experience. Those in season tourneys in the next few years at home. louisville and Vegas that gave a few extra games above the limit for schedules without them made us money and gave us additional home games and the Las Vegas pay out in 10-11. That one tourney experience paid off in many other ways that we parlayed in our favor. Of course, there was not a follow up story that highlighted the positives.

FWIW. I truly believe kicking Marshall in the teeth added greatly to their demise and we have never looked back. THats worth the cost of admission right there.

Case study: In 2009 VCU went to the NCAA tournament. In 2010 they had a good team back lead by current NBA up and coming star Larry Sanders. They disappointed a bit and ended up in the CBI. They accepted the bid and ended up winnint the whole thing. The next year they lost Larry Sanders but ended up rallying and made the NCAA tournament and the final four.

Somehow I don't think people think about that CBI birth first when they think of VCU.

I am going to respond to this because I miss the old days of arguing with the anti-athletics spending crowd. For the most part they completely disappeared this past year due to the millions and millions and millions of dollars in exposure our athletics program provided.

On that note, Borna talked about the key experience and extra practice time that post season tournaments provides athletes. The same can be said about our football team competing in bowl games. One more month of practice while most of this conference is sitting around on their couch watching everyone else play.

Even with our loss last night, the success of the past couple of years has shown the returns we get on athletic spending are well worth the expenses. I trust Jim Schaus and Dr. McDavis to evaluate which opportunities are best for our program to pursue.

Time for my two cents. I don't give a rat's ass where we play outside of the NCAA tourney. Wherever we go, the O Zone will be there, and we'll be loud. If you want to deny this great crop of players another game, you are a heartless person.

Personal preference: Ohio plays at UVA in the NIT so I can go back home and watch my two favorite teams slug it out.
Other preference: We play ANYBODY at home.
