saw that a few minutes ago.

Groce is making a name early

Otoh. Iniana COach Crean is heading the other way. Lost a player and has rumours swirling about possible transfers. Look for Groce to steal a couple of Indiana kids from Painter and Crean inmthe next few years the way he did with Oden, COnley, Offut and Deshawn .

I truly believe if the time is right and the wins come the dominoes will fall and  Groce will be HC at Duke on day....when you give him a national recruiting base ...watch out.

still don't know why he ever left, he's only making a $1,000,000.00 per year more than what we offered him. What's a million bucks between friends?

Not to mention the bump up for Jamall Walker and Dustin Ford. Turning down Illinois would've been financially irresponsible.

hmm . . .  now that's a stretch.  Maybe it was the best thing for them financially at the time, but "financially irresponsible"?  I think we've got some folks on this board that like to make up their own definitions of words and phrases.

If I turn down a million dollar promotion, feel free to call me financially irresponsible.

Ever look in a mirror?

Now that we've traded insults, let me say that financially irresponsible generally means things like taking on debt that you can't payback, gambling away your money, or investing in get rich quick schemes.

That may be your definition or even a definition held by many but in this day and age, moving to a place where you can perform the same day to day functions with better facilities and support for a million more......I think you might have to amend the definition to include missing an opportunity to be set for life. This was not a get rich quick scheme that had no legs. It is merely a chance to do the same job for more money with much more/better staff and surroundings/facilities/support. Same thing with an athlete passing up a sure lottery pick to stay in school and take a chance on playing an extra year of college. Strike while the iron is hot. OTOH if you want to go the other way and find it difficult to amend your initial thought we could include passing up same said opportunity into the definition of "stupid"

Old Timer you taking Geritol or Crack? Or maybe you were apart of the LSD expirements in the 60's. That opportunity was very well once in a life time. That job and offer was as good as it gets for a coach out of the MAC! The difference in pay this year is astounding, and turning that down would be laughable. Coach already received a200k raise this season, let him win a Big Ten title and he will be at 2 million.

Well, old fart, you certainly didn't say anything in response to what I said.  I was simply commenting on what appeared to me to be a poor choice of words.  I still maintain that using the term "financial irresponsibility" in this context was not the most appropriate.  Go back and read what I actually said, then see if you can come up with a slightly more responsive rejoinder.  Your passive-aggressive approach has been duly noted in this and other threads.

Waiting for you to offer a better term to use in this context.

If you were offered a 2 year gig at a different university at a million more and turned it down ....what would you call it? With regard to finance of course.

One word answer: priorities.

I have no need to come up with a different word to use as I felt the original term was appropriate, you are the only one here looking for other words, but fail to offer any yourself. And after re-reading your post my rejoinder would be to say you are acting like an old ninny. And nothing passive about my disdain for your whines.

Well obviously Coach Groce and staff had their priorities where they wanted them because they jumped at the opportunity and seem to be making the most it in the short term.

One's decisions in life show one's priorities.  Is that a difficult concept?

Not difficult at all. It would have been financially irresponsible for Coach Groce to not have as a priority his and his staff's families best interests..............

I wonder if UCLA or USC came calling or something.  Seems weird to have that type of contract action after your first season.  But, then again, these days who knows....

Nobody came sniffing yet but the Illini fans are way on board with thos to show good faith that He is indeed the one they want guiding the program and as a reward for a job well done.

They offered Shaka 2.4 M last year and got Groce for a bargain B1G price. THis was a way to confirm that he met and exceede first year expectations. 4 plage thread applauding the move over on their forums.

Dan;733810 wrote:
With JG's raise & Tubby Smith's ($2M) departure, Groce moves up from tied for 9th to all alone in 7th place in the B1G coaches salaries list.

Not boring Monroe. Educational and shows this fanbase what is out there and why coaches are going to jump.

TO argue about nomenclature and verbiage is never boring. It is redundant though to keep hackiing away at the same old stuff...lose and loose. too and to. affect and effect ....It is refreshing to have something other than the same old same old in the list below totalk about.
