Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph are easily the best bigmanz combination.  Great hands, great passers, great inside moves, fine shooting range to 12-15 feet, crafty, they just get the key position/floor space.  Really a pleasure to watch.

Being in L.A., I've seen a lot of D Howard of the Lakers.  I don't know how much injuries have affected him lately.  He's been a lot more active in the 2nd half of the season, during which time his back, apparently, was mostly healed.
Why I would not sign him for any significant money:  Doesn't kick it out off the boards to start the break,  no offense at all beyond dunking and a bit of jump hook from about 5 feet, just sits in the post area--has no idea, apparently, about going outside and working with his teammates (pick & roll, etc) on offense, unintelligent fouls/doesn't know when to turn it up on D and when to ratchet it down, can't remember hardly at all him having key things--points, bounds, blocks, etc--at pivotal moments, doesn't ever seem to just takeover games, dont see much evidence of basketball smarts/craftiness.  I don't understand why he's so highly regarded.  Monster slams at not particularly important moments but not much else does not impress.

And except for that, Mrs. Lincoln, did you enjoy the play?

Not anymore. Randolph isn't what he was a couple years ago. Give me Old Man Riverwalk and Tiago Splitter.

JSF--I don't know if you are jesting or not.  I know that you have a lot going on in your life (that's good!) and so, unlike me, may not waste time burning out watching NBA playoffs.  But if you do, you'll see in one quarter (12 minutes) of action that Gasol and Zebo are worlds better than Timmy (rightfully called The Big Fundamental) and Splitter.  Nowhere near close.  Gasol and Randolph are splendid.

Gasol is wonderful. Z-Bo? He was not good the first two games of the series. Now, if the form he's shown the last three is more indicative of what we'll see, then sure. But Duncan's likely to show up on a few MVP ballots.

Randolph was terrific last night.  He's still got it.  Best hands in basketball and fundamental moves and strength near the hoop.

Here's something that surprised me.  Chris Webber is a very fine color commentator.  My impression had been the no-timeout-but-called-one-anyway in the NCAA title game and I didn't particularly see smarts in his NBA career (though he was a very good player).  His insight and way with language have very much impressed me.

Have you seen "The Fab Five"? Does a fantastic job of breaking down that timeout. Webber doesn't seem to deserve all of the blame. Even if he did, even the smartest person can make big mistakes.

But yeah, I agree. He's really good on TV. It was upsetting they pushed him off "Inside the NBA" for the mushmouth Shaq.

The big men discussed here didn't show much today.

True.  But everyone except probably one would take him over Splitter.  I'll bet that Randolph shows up pretty significantly before this series is over.

Gotta love Popovich's teams:  They play to about the maximum of their talent and they play poised.

I really like Kawhi Leonard.  He's quiet but effective--a real find for Santonio.

I meant all four. Randolph, Gasol, Duncan, Splitter- none of them were stars yesterday. Gasol was the only one who had even a decent game.

Randolph got burned by Matt Bonner tonight, while Splitter kept on Mike Conley's trail to make his potential game winner a tough shot. Really bad series so far for Z-Bo.

I'm surprised.  Didn't see but the last few minutes last night.  Randolph threw up one shot that was horrible (near the end of regulation, I think).

I'm downright (pleasantly) shocked. I thought Memphis was gonna have their way with the Spurs. Never saw this coming. Never.

Duncan's apparently going to play at an All-NBA level until he's 50. Incredible. And Popovich pulled his entire starting lineup in the first quarter- and it worked!

Popovich can coach.
