Arizona State hosts Miami tonight and they have a picture of Charlie Coles on their tickets.  Very cool thing to do.  I would love to see us do something to honor Charlie when they come to town.

Well, I guess my message didn't post before. I'll try again....

I think it would be a great idea for our athletic department to honor Coach Coles in some fashion. An idea I had was to place a plaque on the away bench at the Convo (either naming the bench after him or just honoring him). Coach Coles made it no secret that he loved coming to the Convo and Ohio. He was a great champion for the rivalry and was certainly the fan favorite every year! I don't know if this idea is an appropriate one, but just a thought.

The first minute of this video kind of shows what I mean about the way he felt about playing Ohio.

How about putting a red turtleneck over the back of the chair closest to the scorer's table on the visitors bench.

Embroider it with something like "Our rival, our friend."  (Or something that sounds better than that if someone could come up with something.)

It's rare that an opponent, especially of a rival school, is revered by another team as much as we did for Charley.  I think that while it's strange to honor a rival coach in your gym, Charlie deserves it.

Totally agree.  We should do something special for Charlie.  Lot's of good ideas here.  I'd even go for some type of banner.  There's a lot of space up there in the rafters.

BTW, there was an old tradition at Peden that I'd like so see come back.  They used to fly pennants for the MAC schools and also for Illinois.  It was explained to me by an older guy when I was a whippersnapper that this was to honor Don Peden, who was an Illinois graduate and also to commemorate his two victories over the Illini while he coached OHIO.  Little traditions like these -- Illinois pennant, banner honoring Charlie (or whatever we do) -- are the kinds of things that give texture and specialness to an athletic facility and to a fan base.
