I love the new landscape. Been reading boards around the NCAA. SOme really entertaining stuff..teams that are new to the Big Least like X and the Butdogs have some delusional fans that instantly forgot their roots. ...when this program gets to the next level I do hope NOT to see a thread like this.

My god what a bunch of whiny spoiled brats.  I understand the desire to want to play good teams, but even the top programs play against teams who are less than stellar.  You gotta fill that schedule somehow.

On an unrelated note, does Butler's message board hurt anyone else's eyes? I can't look at it for more than 2 minutes.

Interesting reading for sure, but they do have several fans that want to play Ball State. The guys that want 2 for 1 or even 3 for 1 are the truly delusional ones. Frankly we get our share of the same fans on here although I haven't heard many 3 for 1 requirements. I think I read someplace that we just win our first OOC road game in two years, so I wouldn't complain too much about who we play.

I don't think Butler fans are crazy for wanting a 2-1 from Ball State.

Why? Well, would you take a 2-1 from Butler if it meant getting them in the Convo one time? I would in a heartbeat.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I guess it depends on if you think Butler would draw fans to the Convo. I honestly don't think they would draw as much as you think.

If you schedule Butler on a Saturday with students in town, I think we push a sellout.

Butler's reputation is miles ahead of where it was just a couple years back. I think people would love to see a name like that in the Convo.

Unless the money in a 2 for 1 is extremely negative, who cares?  Play a few 2 for 1s every year.  No?

The real problem is none of the higher conference teams want to play on the road, and they don't have to.  Nuff said.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

The 2 for 1 stuff was discussed yesterday in another thread, and I'm in agreement -- take a couple two for one's with team's like Butler.  I agree with Optimist too - the Butler name is big.  They did go to two Final Four's in a row.

As for Borna's point of the thread, they can't think just because they jump to the Big East that they're suddenly too good for Ball State or Evansville.  It's not as if those are terrible games.  On the other hand, another poster echo's the opinions many of us have about the big boy's not having the guts or the inclination to travel to Hinkle.  Unfortunately, it seems to be a problem that isn't going away.

I'd do it solely for recruiting purposes and increasing our chances to get a "quality" win.  The draw at the gate is a tertiary  benefit.

If we were to jump to a higher profile conference that thread would pop up here with nearly identical replies.

That thread pops up here every single time our schedule is announced.

I guess you're right with the people who are guaranteed to go to games already. I know Butler's recent success would be a huge draw for a lot of us on this board, but a casual fan may not feel the same way. Then again, the definition of casual fan is so vague. If they go to college basketball games, chances are they know who Butler is.

Argument retracted.

Great responses....and I am sure those threads would pop up here which is why as much as I want to see OHIO hoops ascend to the next level I do not want us to become idiots as many fanbases inevitably do.

I would feel better about pulling Evansville, Balls and ISU off if these guys from D3 and these guys from NEw Jersey who are a perennial RPI drag were not on the schedule. Not playing in state rivals to replace them with a Sam Houston, Longwood or ROse Hulman is an insane proposition.

Nice to see that cooler heads show up in the thread and give basis to why they play the series. It was not all that long ago Ball State fans were asking to leave Butler off the schedule. Pendulums always swing.

We drew about 7400 for George Mason a couple of years after their final 4 run.  I think 9500 would be a safe bet for Butler considering their tourney runs and the higher profile conference.

I think this tendency can be attributed to the fact that the vaunted, "casual fan" is an idiot who knows little about the sport and pays attention to what the talking heads tell him to, and only that. As fan bases grow larger, and as teams ascend into talking head land, the core of die hards doesn't change too much, and most of the growth is in the... uh... less desirables.

But they have money.

This is true.  Most idiot fans are fans and fans only and not actual supporters of an institution of higher learning.  Ball State looks like they might beat them.  BSU is up 5 with 12 to go.

ball state loses by 1 wth a chance to win off 2 missed free throws with 12.2 secs left. Missed a layup and a follow my Majok majok.

Sadly this blog talks about ending  the series

Butler has ascended. Lest this be confined to the Butdogs........X, VCU, GOnzaga and a umber of other mids have all forgotten their roots. If you are going to play D3 Manchester for gosh sake why are you taking BSU off the schedule.

Saturday looks to be the last time for the foreseeable future that Butler and Ball State will meet. The two schools have played each other at least once every season since 1950, and have met 104 times in total in a series that started in 1924

I am glad we have BSU here this year. They are going to be a load and the Ndour/ Majok match up is going to be really good.
