Valpo brings size and lots of it to the Convo on Saturday.  They have four guys 6-9 or taller that get regular minutes (6-9, 6-10, 6-10, 7-0).   They are also a lot like us (and UNI) in the fact they are only returning one starter from last years Horizon championship squad.  That starter wasn't even a full time starter last year.  Unlike us they give a lot of minutes to freshman.  Should be a good test.

I swear, these first 3 games are all major tests for OUr squad! After how the team played Tuesday, I hope they do not get big heads about keeping their own against a top 10 team. Should be a great game, and I expect a close one, but a Cats win!

I expect to win this game at home.

My biggest concern with their size inns on the boards. Haven't done well there yet. Hopefully Stevie and Kellogg keep the mindsets they have against OSU.
NDour didn't play great but he still managed 10&9... His game is very complete. I think he is easily capable of averaging 15 a night.

Unfortunate this is a Sunday game in NFL season. We are going to lose some fans due to that. Browns and Bengals play each other at 1 in a big game.
We need the O Zone rocking for this one.

I usually am on board with everything the athletic department does, but scheduling this game during the Bengals/Browns game is a monumental failure. Would it really be that hard to move the game to 4 pm or later?

What is this Bengals/Browns game you speak of?

Edit 1: After cursory internet investigation, it appears to be some kind of twice-annual combat between a bengal tiger and a bull dog. Can this be right?!? It seems like it'd just be a really 1-sided dog fight?

Edit 2: After further investigation, I see that this is some sort of football game. Looking over the two teams' rosters, it appears to consist mostly of former college football players...all of them having expended their eligibility and therefore no longer able to play the beautiful game (college football).

A lot of people, including the majority of the student body. Im going to the game with some other Browns fans. This could easily be avoided by having a saturday game or bumping it later sunday. This will hurt attendance

I always choose Bobcats hoops first but not all of our fans do. A significant portion are not only big NFL fans but big NFL fans from these two teams. This is going to hurt attendance.

Could have been avoided. If we are going to play a game on a NFL Sunday, try to avoid Browns/Bengals/Steelers.

Common sense scheduling.

There's no reason for this to be on a Sunday.

I know that mine is going to be a minority opinion, but for purely selfish reasons I like this being on Sunday. First, I can give 100% focus to the our basketball game without missing/falling behind on any of the Saturday football viewing. Second, I've got something entertaining to watch on my laptop while my housemates are watching the Bills play (possibly competitively) against the Jets.

I agree completely, and it honestly shows the details that get missed.  Want the best student turnout possible?  Don't schedule during certain things, including Bengals/Browns and O$-who games.  Like it or not, those are the facts.

I hear your point, but on a personal note, I can tell you where it is -- my dad, who lives out of state, is visiting.  WE always watch Bengals-Browns together when we possibly can.  If this was a 4pm tip, or was on Saturday, we'd be doing both.  Instead, we're watching the OU game on the laptop.

Sunday games are really kind of ridiculous and unnecessary unless they're driven by legitimate TV exposure (i.e. not ESPN3)

This is the first time in a long, l-o-n-g time we've had two teams that are usually quality teams for home games, plus a "power" conference team, on our schedule this early in the season.  Usually, if we have them at all, they're Thanksgiving or later when the students had gone home, were taking exams or had their minds on the holidays.  UNI and Valpo are names most Ohio students would recognize; certainly a lot more than Lamar or Wofford.  I hope the kids get excited and come out on Sunday.

In other news, Duke and NCarolina and Kentucky and Louisville looked to see if there were any county fairs or farmers markets or water balloon exhibitions on days that they wanted to schedule games.  And, it's definitely a good idea to watch TV instead of a live event--espec in this day in which one cannot record a TV event and watch it later.  It's always better to watch on TV than to get the view and emotion of being their live.

Maybe I should get my glasses.  I swear that I'm reading weird stuff here about people not attending one of our games because of some TV events featuring mediocrity.

There are a lot of people who will choose the NFL over everything else, no matter how good the teams are. I'm not in that camp, but it's pretty big.

Fact is, attendance will suffer. We can wag our fingers about it, but it's the reality. I don't personally mind, but it would have nicely fit in my Saturday schedule (the only one in a while I don't have plans).

Except that Valpo probably wanted the time to turn around from Champaign to travel to Athens. It is not always on our athletic department. They do not schedule in a vacuum. Valpo has been in the COnvo before so they know what it takes to get from ":the Region:" to SEO time and effort wise. Extra day may have made huge sense to them....although they do head to Evansville on Tuesday from here....."Rollin down Highway 41" to steal a phrase

Come to think of it they could get their kids back in class thursday and Friday they make the trip on Sat/Sun then be in Evansville Monday/Tuesday and back home wednesday. That makes a lot of sense academically if you are Valpo.

If this situation occurred when I was attending Ohio in the early 90's, I'd honestly be torn.  Due to technology improvements, the entire situation is completely different now, but as a die-hard Browns fan with the team in playoff contention, I'd doubt you'd get me away from the TV 20 years ago.  Fast-forward to today and I'd DVR the Browns game, get updates on my droid, and go see the Bobcats.

Hoping there's enough non die-hard Bengals and Browns fans out there (and I think there are), that will still allow for a good turnout.

Don't usually comment much, but read every day.  So let me get this straight, most seem to think this is alright because (add  whatever).  But if you were playing Saturday and someone said "I think I'll watch OSU football at noon, then after go to the BB game" it would be  kick them out, what is wrong with the bastard's don't they have any school spirit.   Ya gotta love this board.

If you can't see the difference between supporting a professional team and supporting a college team that competes in the same level of athletics that Ohio compete in, the entire argument why no Ohio students should root for Ohio State is clearly going over your head.

The OSU issue on campus has pretty much disappeared the last couple years. Amazingly, a large % of current students see the logic in rooting for the school you actually attend over rooting for an institution an hour away whose graduates you will be competing against to get a job.

The NFL is the most popular sport in this country. Personally, I prefer Ohio Basketball but I don't think it is wise for the program to go head to head with the NFL. This could have been avoided. Just like playing a football game at the same time as OSU could have always been avoided.

Most students don't have DVR boxes.. That is 99% of the time something students choose to axe on the college budget in my experience.

That said, I do gink technology helps, but I think it is smartphones that help. You can easily get scores (even watch if you pay) the NFL all the time. Downside to this is that you can watch the internet feed of Ohio basketball on your phone too...

The fact that it is browns/bengals only further hurts. Big rivalry game on campus. Bars are packed for this when both teams stink.. Now both teams are in the playoff hunt!?

Not good for attendance.

Hopefully we have enough diehards to keep our attendance high
