With so many new faces, are we top 50, top 25?

Maybe, but I personally expect a down year. Although, With Bean, Kellogg, Smith, and others, we should still be 20 or more wins easily in my opinion, and if Akron doesn't reload, we could see a tourney trip. I expect a great team in 2014-15 and 2015-16 when we have bean, anrio adams, Tariq Owens, etc

Akron or Toledo. I'd be very happy with a second place finish in the East.

There's a lot of question marks, and obviously some very large shoes to fill when you lose guys like Offutt, Cooper, and Keely.  I'm cautiously optimistic, though.  I'm interested to see what N'dour's game looks like, Bean Willis will probably start at PG taking over for DJ, Setty will be eligible to play, we have a couple of big-bodied freshmen, and of course we return Kellogg, Wilkins, Taylor, and Smith.  On the surface I see a lot of talent, I just don't know what to expect and what this team will look like.  How will these guys "mesh," what will be this team's identity?  I don't look at this roster and see a lack of talent and/or size.  I'm sure it will be a step back after losing everything we lost, but I don't see it being a huge step back.

This year might be a step back, but I think we are clearly a top four team in the MAC. I like Akron and Toledo, and I think Buffalo will be good. I would have thrown Western Michigan in that group, too before the Paul transfer. I think we have the potential to be a very good defensive team. I'm not really worried there. Will we be able to score? Can Ndour come close to the same level of production he had last year? Can TJ average double figures? Will Bean be a scorer or distributor or both? What will Setty bring to the table? Can we groom him to play the 3-spot for after Ricardo and TJ leave?

It's been a while since we've had this many question marks.  The only sure thing is that we'll see fewer fade away jumpers.

I personally think we can approach last year. Heck, we made the NIT and didn't really beat anyone we shouldn't have beaten. We didn't win the MAC, we didn't win a game in the NIT and we finished second in the East in the regular season. I don't know why people expect that down of a year. It all will hinge on the newcomers. Bean, Ndour and Setty along with Mompremier and Campbell if they can adjust. I think we'll be more physical without Ivo and we will not have guys questioning their place on the team because JC was passing the time waiting for "his" team to accrue.

I think a 2nd place finish in the East is an entirely realistic expectation. In fact, I'd say anything less than that is a failure.

Many (understandbly) get caught up on who we lose from last year... How many MAC teams the last 10 years would kill to return TJ Hall, Nick Kellogg, Jon Smith and Ricardo Johnson? Those four returning seniors have given us a ton of quality minutes over the last couple years. That's a very solid group of talent to bring back in the MAC.

Not to mention Stevie Taylor and Travis Wilkens.

For a few reasons, I think we could perhaps be BETTER than last year.  The first one is that this team is comprised more of Christian's players than Groce's players.  They'll be more prepared to play this staff's way than the prior staff's way.  Maybe that's a load of hooey, maybe not.  The second reason I point out is that this year's team would appear to have a lot more size, and the ability to play with multiple looks - i.e. we're not reliant on a 3 guard look.  That goes a long way when playing teams that are bigger.

Those things said, the coaching staff is certainly relying on N'dour & Willis to contribute in big ways, or someone like Kellogg or TJ to elevate their games a little.  I think it could be done, but I don't EXPECT a big time year like I did going into last season.

For me, it's just fun to see how we lose a great senior class, and they're not re-building, just reloading or changing the look of the team.  There's still a lot of talent to choose from.

The hardest thing for me come November 9th:  Not sitting down in my seat in The Convo to hear #5 and #3 be introduced.  Those guys were so fun to watch.

Actually OHIO was the MAC regular season co-champions, first time time since 93-94.  That banner will be hung this Fall.

I expect Nov-Dec to be pretty rough.  With DJ and Walt gone, there'll be a whole new chemistry and mindset, which may need some shake-out time.  With luck, by the time the MAC season rolls around, this team should be pretty much together and should be a top-3 MAC team, with Toledo and Akron.

I really need to get my head examined. I'm angry that more people aren't picking Ohio over Louisville and I'm certain we'll be battling for the top spot in bball again. This isn't normal.

Without getting too much into the L'ville issue, I think it suffices to say that they're not Penn St.  They're a better team than Penn St was last year and they don't have all the issues that surrounded Penn St.

As for b-ball, there's bound to be questions when you lose a group of starters that scored 45+ points a game.  Stevie can (emphasize "can") provide much of the leadership for the team; he certainly improved in that regard last season.  But unlike Akron we don't have a proven double-figure scorer (Kellogg averaged 8 points in 25 min last season to lead the returnees) and we really don't know how this team will mesh until they hit the floor in Nov.  Lots of newcomers who have potential but we haven't seen them with the returnees yet so we don't know what'll happen.

This team might "mesh" better now that DJ is gone.  He wasn't exactly loved by his teammates last year, including Stevie,  Kellogg, John Smith and others.

I'm thinking we may struggle early and then be the team nobody wants to play come March.

I couldn't agree more. What we have is a team with what we were lacking against Kron last year in the title game: Toughness. Ndour already said in the Messenger that he would have liked to have guarded Treadwell. Bean will be tough. You know Rico, Stevie and T.J. will bring it and I think Setty and even Campbell and Mompremier will give us some solid inside play. NO ONE will want to play us come March.
