During the last game after a Nick Kellogg basketball a few folks in section 4 cheered loudly.  I gathered it was for a scoring milestone but nothing was announced.  I just read this in the upcoming game notes:

Senior guard Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) became the 36th Bobcat all-time to post 1,000 career points Saturday. He will be honored prior to Wednesday’s game for accomplishing the feat.

My question is this - with his parents in attendance and in the front row, why wasn't the game stopped at the time of the basket with the proper recognition for Nick and his contributions to OU basketball?

I agree, at the next time out they should have done it.  With only 4 points to go, they should of had a ball ready as well.

Is stopping a game in the middle for things like this commonplace? I can't remember if it's been done before, but I sort of think not. Maybe recognized a la lava cake by Lou , but I don't remember any time outs. Would it even be allowed?

I'm guessing some of the most recent milestones were something for DJ, Ivo, or Reggie -but don't remember how they were noted, other than maybe a mention by Lou, and a ball given to the player at the following game. But I do know Reggie/Ivo/DJ crossed the 1000(2000 DJ) mark last year.

As I recall, the milestones achieved the last couple of years were recognized prior to starting lineups before the first home game following the accomplishment. Recognition included a ceremonial ball with the milestone/date/opponent.

I'm  happy for Nick - he is an outstanding player, student and community member. I'm sure team success is more important to him than individual recognition, but 1,000 points represents a lot of work and talent. Go, Ohio!

I think you are right Ben. I vaguely remember it being announced somewhere during the game for the last 7 but I do not remember stopping it or even saving the game ball to honor the guys who made the grade.

Here is the list.  Any season tix holders who have been there for all of these guys?

EDIT .... Is the ball something new Joe.>>??? Did not remember that for Leon JT Tommy or Devo. I think it is a stellar idea ... I do remember asking at the Cat's Eye if they saved the game ball.

I recall D.J. Cooper, Ivo Baltic & Reggie Keely receiving them. I don't know if they were game balls, though.

Would've been interesting to see if Trent could've gotten to 3,000 with a hypothetical fourth season.

Hard to remember back that far if specifically was at each recognition - but chances are I was at 90%+ of any since fall 1977.

I can top that -- I counted 32 of the players on the list that I remember seeing in live action.
