DURING BREAKS.... the area school districts could fill the seats and create an atmosphere at the convo.  Give fans from area schools an opportunity to get a taste of OHIO BASKETBALL.  Everyone would benefit from this down the road.

And giving away is an NCAA violation, if I recall correctly.

Because all those area high schools are FULL of blue chip prospects that we are clearly trying to lure with our free tickets.

Thats BRILLIANT! We'd make a fortune in Parking Enforcement fines alone!

Edit: Of course that would burn all the good will that might be generated by giving away the tickets

You could give them to Ohio Basketball sponsors -- retailers that will give away tickets by coming into the stores.

Billy might chime in but I think Parking enforcement is still making money ....but  hey ...... I am sure they would welcome new blood.....Athletes always get targeted during these weeks....especially when busses are not running and they take the car instead of walking down from the Summit to the Convo. Crazy.

Only if parking services had something else better to do!🌵😒

As I recall a few years ago we had some ticket giveaway with area middle school football teams.   I think it was during Knorrmageddon or early in the Solich era.  One thought I have is that we give out ticket vouchers to all area high school honor roll students, redeemable for any home game during December.  Ties the giveaway to grades and not just being a warm body, which should appease the NCAA police.

We will get by.

Not an awful idea, but with our season ticket packages and $5 tickets, I don't think you want to hurt the ticket value anymore.  A good idea may be to give them away free at Citizens Bank to their customers....at least make it seem like someone paid for them

Yeah I was speaking of the SUmmit busses. That's what I wanted when my kid was playing Alan.....him walking down the hill at the summit on the ice/snow 2-3 times a day they are in the COnvo to get the bus instead of parking services just giving the athletes a pass during intersession to be able to park.. Seems kind of asinine to put the athletes at risk .....especially while no one is in school and the parking lots are veritably empty.  In your scenario the athletes walk down the hill from the apartments ...wait for the bus....2 times a day for each practice....walk up the hill ....hopefully don't slip or fall and stay bundled up so they do not get sick while going from practice back to housing. I suppose your answer works.... seems easier to print a few passes for the 6 or 7basketball/wrestling/swimming athletes on each team that need to drive while parking is at such a premium.

I have a feeling this does not transpire at Institiutions where they have to get to training tables, weight rooms and such year round. I don't think athletes should be treated like royalty but the school should definitely not make it MORE difficult while they are staying on campus over break for athletic reasons and NOT seeing their families during the holidays many of those years.

Glad guys like you chime in with those brilliant comments.

Brilliant!!!!!!......tooo bad that is where Groce put them when it opened...NO CHOICE! I think that was for proximity and team building (put them into the dorms he wanted with the players he wanted roooming together)

But suppose that was an option.....let's say they live on campus. You have to evacuate your dorm room onthe last day of your finals and move to SOuth Green then turn your keys back in every time you have an overnight road trip then wait to find an RA at 2 am when you get home to get back in your room or the alternative was to put them up in the OU INN for 3-4 weeks.....or say off campus housing for upper class is an option let's move to Palmer or similar off campus housing and take that bus 2-3 times a day .....instead of actually taking care of our athletes.....jeez people cmon.....I know.....  wouldn't this time of year be a great time to host a recruit...so they can see how smoothly our department works and see how highly valued they would be. That will be a plus to get them to commit.

In any case.....do you really want to read about a guy missing a game because he fell on his way to and from the Convo or because he has bronchitis from the walk or waiting on the bus. Just give them a parking apss to the COnvo so that they can get there safely and without incedent. Quit ticketing athletes for having their cars at the Convo during practice hours and while they are away on road trips. .

Tough to have much sympathy when I consider the 84 payments of $70.96 I made to pay off a college loan in the late 70's and early 80's.  The rules are what they are and you can either chose to ignore them and accept the consequences or work within the system to change them.  Personally, I prefer the latter because it tends to be a learning experience for all.  Your kid has graduated Tom - it's time to land your helicopter and remember the great times he had here and the great entertainment that he provided for OU fans young and old.

Sorry Alan

Just because my kid graduated does not mean I have to walk out the door ....unless I missed the memo...is that what you expect of us as parents?  Hate to let you know this but lots of us get invested in the places our kids attend and the program we committed to as a family. Is that a polite way of telling me that no matter what we will always be outsiders?

I am not sure I fit the mold of the parent who is in the gym ONLY because my kid is there. I was a basketball junkie long before my kid was born. I kind of like representing OHIO  as I have in the recent past and had planned to continue to keep spreading the good word to alums, boosters, high school coaches, recruits and their parents.

Maybe I am out of line and have overstepped my boundaries in your eyes by embracing and becoming part of the fabric of the University. I had thought I was going to be a fan for life. Perhaps you are thinking I need to leave Athens and not return?

What exactly qualifies you to set the boundaries as to what is said and by whom?

EDIT...sorry this thread has digressed but there are still a lot of things we can do better. There are still things that should be done to help OHIO be attractive to those representing the school and wearing the uniforms.Spending time around other programs only points out the things we can do better...from video feeds to nutrition to a variety of small things that move a program forward. . Most folks like where we are headed ....we have only come this far on that backs of those who saw what was needed and created an ongoing vision. .

I don't think you're going to much sympathy for having to pay $5960.64 to settle your college loans...lets see, if we start your repayments in 1978 then your monthly payments (in 2013 inflation adjusted dollars) works out to:
1978 - $300.89
1979 - $270.22
1980 - $238.08
1981 - $215.82
1982 - $203.29
1983 - $196.97
1984 - $188.81
(according to the BLS inflation calculator http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=84.00&year1=1978&year2=2013)

I'm willing to guess that more recent grads would kill to have monthly payments that are so low, or for the real value of their debts to have declined so quickly due to inflation.

My only comment - are we gonna play "Small Ball", or "Big Ball"............

Someone tell me how to buy 100/$1 to $2 tics for the UMass game Tuedsay for local kids - and I AM I N..................

Borna - I'll  buy you a hot chocolate after the 3.5 hr drive from Muncie (7 hr round trip).

Alan - I'll match you dollar for dollar on the tics for local kids (or anyone else who wants in) - jus let me know how this could get done w/tight timeline. If it means I have to get to the Convo an hour earlier from Columbus and just hand them out - WILL DO!

What is the % of those payments to wages though, since real wages have not increased much over the years.

As for parking, I believe as long as parking services has the lots closed to the general public, that giving athletes preferential treatment (I.E. Parking passes) over other students would be an extra benefit and a violation of NCAA regulations.

getting these tickets out to area schools would be great for the Umass game .... It is short notice, but they need to do something to fill the seats over breaks .... last game the fairfield union band was also there, every game should have an area high school marching band sitting in for the 110 .... the students go on break every year, and this is an issue every year, athens is a great community, why not reward the community in athens county.

Honoring the trimble tomcats would also be a nice way to fill some seats and honor a group of young men who are very deserving.
