Quick look at UMassHoops.com - looks like we will have a least a few visitors in the Convo. Interesting the posts per the "attractive women" in Athens!

Cady is who we gotta stop - stop from getting the ball - and not have OUr bigs get deep into foul trouble early. Would love to see Ndour get the ball inside and put some moves on him and get Cady in some foul trouble - but we gotta get that inlet pass there QUICK on the post up...........

UMass is a formidable opponent. They aren't some tomato can from the SWAC with a sub par website. The team needs us all to be there, and for each of us to bring at least one friend. If you do not have a friend, I will be your friend.

UMass was just a super addition to MAC football, and Dr. Steinbrecher needs to do everything in his power, including extortion, to convince the Minutemen that they want to join our happy Mid-American family in all sports. Our institutions are extremely similar. Even though Ohio University pre-dates the founding of the Massachusetts Agricultural College MAC -- it's like fate!) by 58 years, there are parallels that demand we work together. Just look at past graduates:

UMass boasts of annoying TV personality Jeff Corwin, Ohio has Nancy Cartwright.
Washed up actor Bill Pullman is a UMass graduate. Richard Dean Anderson went to Ohio.
Fake TV newsman Rob Corddry went to UMass. Ohio has Martin Savidge.
Bill Cosby did his graduate study at UMass and wears a Temple sweatshirt often. Thousands upon thousands of Ohio graduates wear sweatshirts from other schools.
Singer Taj Mahal went to UMass. Ohio has.... awww pickles....

Winter storms have largely missed the Southeast Ohio corridor, leaving only bothersome trifles of snowfall. A short warmup is on the way, but will not arrive soon enough for melting snows to create flooding concerns in low-lying areas. The biggest traffic concern will be to avoid the tow trucks descending upon Convocation Center parking lots at the 5:00 chime after the memo distributed to University employees warned them that lots would be closed and measures taken on game days. Be safe out there.

In reading their board they are a little full of themselves. You'll also note that their game threads for their next two games have more posts in them than our game. Let's hope their team is taking a similar focus.

I read their board alot, being in Massachusetts myself, and in particular the chronic hoops posters are very Temple-esque, this despite them loathing Temple. The chronic FB and crossover posters are pretty grounded, though.

you know what, @$#% UMass and their ignorant fans. Spot on in comparing their delusional arrogance to Temple. Who do they think they are??

They're in a multi-bid league and haven't danced in 15 years and we're in a 1 bid league and have danced 3 times since then and have been to a Sweet 16?! Sorry losers, but Marcus Camby left the building a looong time ago. Your conference handed out FIVE bids last year and you couldn't earn one? #$%@ you.

I'm amazed at how uninformed and down right ignorant their fan base is.

And its not just that many of them sound like a bunch of arrogant pricks, they do, its how uninformed they are in their arrogance. They have some things to be excited about, sure, good for them, but get over yourselves talking about us like that.

I need to hold the shift key down and punch a bunch of numbers and them I'm through for now.

I don't know that I'm quite that venomous towards their fan base, but that Ohio grad that says he is coming and rooting for UMass boils my blood. I just don't understand how that is possible.

That really bothered me as well,but he didn't say he graduated from Ohio, just that he attended from 06-08. I'm hoping he transferred from here to UMAss, and that's why he's rooting for them. Plus, he recommended Skipper's, which has been closed for years.

I wish I could find the quote I saw on their board in aother thread because I'm sure its the same guy but it was something along the lines of "Ohio's gym is boring, nobody goes to the games. I mean, I lived in it and didn't even bother going!"

This is what I mean by uninformed ignorance. If you're going to talk trash, do so accurately. Please improve the quality of your trash talking UMass fans.

I went to Skippers once in my 4 years in Athens, and it was only to complete a shuffle. I had a couple friends that went there every now and then to have table tap races. That's about it, though.

Why wouldn't the UMass fan base think they'll win? I can see why they might underestimate or not know much about Ohio. Unless you're a true hoops junkie, you only really notice a program like ours when it's making noise in March. UMass dominated a pretty good New Mexico team and earned some other really solid wins. They deserve their ranking. I don't think it's arrogant for their partisans to think they'll beat an unranked MAC team that got blown out of the gym at Oakland. Our team has huge potential, but so far it's mostly just potential. Let's see if the team can play up to that potential tomorrow.

Im assuming he is some washout who couldnt cut it at Ohio since he was only there for 3 years and talks about a lameass bar like Skippers in his post. Massachusetts hasnt done anything in basketball in 20 years, they are in for a rude awakening tomorrow

Overall their fans are pretty even keel about the matchup in the game thread. They discount our home record as playing a bunch of patsies (somewhat true) but overall they see that this will be a tough game. I get the feeling they are expecting an EMU type of atmosphere though, when we will probably have 7500 plus. I wish this game was in like 3 weeks so we could have students there and sell it out.

Did you really read all the posts. Here is the last one by Chris20 on page 7.

"As usual, the refs will have a lot to say about this game. We've turned into a good FT shooting team, but it looks like their guys are pretty good at the line as well, at least those who are most likely to get there. I'm hoping Cady finds a way to play a little more aggressively without fouling. He hasn't found that happy medium between fouling, and playing extremely passive defense.

Season results suggests we're a little better than them. But this team is not EMU or Youngstown St., and this won't be an empty gym like EMU. This will be our first away game against a good team with a true homecourt advantage. Can't wait to see how we respond."

I've got no beef with UMass fans that are proud of their team and confident that they could win. They should feel that way based on their team's performance. I wouldn't put Ohio as a favorite, this will be a very tough game for the Bobcats.

I was addressing the few that decided to make uninformed, derogatory remarks about Ohio and/or the MAC that were off base. I don't mind smack talk, just try to be accurate with it.
