COuld not find the thread we were talking about HS gyms. Wanted to share the pic tonite with whomever commented on the fieldhouse. Tonite was the last game between Muncie Central and Muncie South. They split the schools in 1961 and a rivalry was born. Next year everyone in the City will once again be Bearcats. Morrie Mannies is calling the last game

Many players that are recognizable to MAC fans played in these games Ray McCallum, Bonzi, Chandler Thompson, Cedric Van Leer. Many made it back tonite for the final in the series.

THe old barn is pretty special when the weather is below zero....but baby, it's warm inside.

I wonder what the gym looks like in LaDrell Whitehead's Indiana jail?

Why are the schools consolidating? That seems like an odd move

Cost savings.  Be prepared for more of this in Ohio too in the governor's second term.  In Athens County alone we have five school districts.  Really doesn't make it any sense.  I can see a move in Ohio toward a county system in rural areas to eliminate the administrative duplication.

Muncie, ANderson, Kokomo and similar cities all lost GM, Delco, FisherBody, Chrysler and similar plants. ALl have gone from multiple HS to single schools in the last decade. Muncie held out as long as they could because SOuth folks were functioning on emotion and not using logic and numbers. They voted to load the board and kept Southside  open way past it's prime. BOth schools had over 2K students at one time and Northside had an additional 1500 when it was closed in 89. Now each has close to 900. THe town is still bleeding as the jobs moved away and many folks moved out to the county schools leaving a statistically significant underclass in the City schools.

I pushed for converting to a County wide Joint Vocational School but it will be turned into a jr high because those Southside folks did not want to lose their jr high also. I predict that will be closed in 5 years and the school will be shuttered instead of being put to a good use. We have several schools in the County that have less than 400 students. A county wide JVS like they have in Ohio would be a fantastic asset as there is no way some of those tiny schools can put kids on track to vocational training. Much needed ......no visionaries left in Muncie , Anderson or Kokomo.  Fricking emotional beotches.

I know politics is frowned upon here, but I got to say Alan, you're awful confident about Kasich's chances with 7 months to go...

Are there highlights from the game on YouTube or somewhere else, borna?

Interesting hearing those students talking. They were 5t/6th graders when we had back to back (05 and 06)  State Runner Ups in the top class losses to Oden and Conley and were ranked Number 1 all season in 07.  We averaged 6k every home game for 4 seasons running and did not lose a sectional for 7 years. Since those teams walked out they have struggled and attendance has waned. I am particularly proud of those teams. Multiple kids played college ball, 7 of them are active in coaching, Composite GPA of the top 7 kids was 3.93, one of the ones not coaching is playing for the Washington Redskins. Great kids during that run.

Really cool video of players who returned. Lots of colleges represented there.

www.thestarpress.com/videonetwork/3103518107001 Chandler Thompson's dad and his teamies and the old days before South was split out. Love that history. Sit with any of those guys and they will talk about games like they were played yesterday.

whole game replay if you want to sit through it.
