   Posted: 2/10/2014 8:15:02 PM
I feel as though the ohio university bobcat games are recapped, and then recapped again, then recapped again and again ....

I feel as though this is a bit redundant ..  I enjoy highlights .. is it for the fans or for the broadcaster ?

it's almost as though the broadcaster wants to hear himself speak ....if that is the case he could purchase a dictaphone and this could be done on his own time.

the entire miami game was recapped on the radio show tonight .... I was at the game along w/ 10,000 others, the game was on the radio and on time warner 311 and espn3 .... do we need a recap ? ..

I TUNED IN TO HEAR WHAT COACH CHRISTIAN AND HIS TEAM HAD TO SAY !!

should i now recap what i've stated above ? .... ok quickly i will say "what's w/ all the recaps?"

I like the recaps.  It helps get the word out to those who may not have been there, or to relive an exciting game.

Criticism is much better received when it's not from an anonymous source.

I like a recap at times too .. big games, exciting moments and i think the broadcast team does a fantastic job !! .... I enjoy listening to russ and rob, like listening to marty and the cowboy for reds games .... they do a great job. i just feel like it's at times too much focus on "the brodcaster" and not the broadcast !!

Jeff is correct. It helps promote the team and game broadcasts. It was a bit longer tonight but I'm sure it wasn't over 5 min. I didn't time it as I was too busy eating birthday cake. ;-)

You probably knew this response was coming...but no one is forcing you to watch or listen to the recaps.

While we are at it we should get rid of the game webcasts too. And the radio broadcasts. And that annoying website and facebook, twitter, instagram accounts.

WHy don't you just say you do not like RUss ?

I like the fact that he is there and humping. Since he came we have grown the ability to get info, clips, sound bites and yes....recaps. You may take that for granted but many Bobcats far and wide who salivate and hang on trying to get info very much appreciate the exposure. In traveling many miles and talking to fans from the Carolinas to the left coast I am very happy to have waaaaaaaayyyyyyy more exposure and accessibilty than when we started here......too much money? Too much fun? Too much Bobcat exposure.......?

If you got a problem with Russ man up and say so....the day he decides to move on we are going to have a big decision to make. We are lucky to have a guy in Athens who is single, dedicated to his craft and growing the brand with no outside distractions.....we need to reallly sit back and appreciate how good we got it in this era of Bobcat sports.

Second everything you said Borna. Ever listen to any of the other MAC schools webfeeds broadcasting crews? They are cringe-worthy. Russ is a true professional and constantly elevates his craft. We are damn lucky to have him and damn lucky to have kept him here as long as we have. Baby what a Big-Time Broadcaster!!

Right on Borna!! We are the envy of every other school in the MAC, yet we still find reason to complain!!

Completely agree with borna about the quality of our broadcasters. Russ works like a mule, probably doesn't get paid very much, and is leagues ahead of his MAC peers. I'll miss him a lot when he moves on.

What he said.  Russ is a high-quality broadcaster.  Forget the MAC, he's just plain good at what he does.  Russ and Rob are the class of the conference.  I really don't know how someone can complain about our in-house media coverage.

Come on guys, give the fellow a break.  All he said was that he's not a big fan of all of the recaps.  He didn't say a thing about the quality of the broadcasts or the broadcasters.  Nothing more, nothing less.  He just doesn't like the recaps and he's entitled to that opinion.

Do you think Russ talks because he like the sound of his own voice? Do you think this weekly radio talk show is all his idea? Its his JOB. Both JC and Frank have media responsibilities explicitly spelled out in their contracts with large chunks of money attached to it so they can't wiggle out of doing it without taking a pay cut. a weekly coaches show is explicitly spelled out as a requirement. All parties are there because their employer insists they be there.

When a radio show is scheduled for 1 hour that means there needs to be sounds coming through the radio for the entire hour. You say you would rather hear JC talk more. Who wouldn't? But have you ever heard JC, or Frank for that matter, actually speak? They approach an interview with an openness and candidness of an enemy combatant under interrogation. My guess is Russ does the recaps and such because he can't fill a full hour otherwise. To paraphrase Lloyd Benson- "I knew Charlie Coles, I listened to Charlie Coles, Charlie Coles was a favorite of mine. Jim Christian is no Charlie Coles."

Complaining about media saturation is really grasping for straws, isn't it?

No...... actually he inferred that Russ has another agenda, that he is narcissistic and wants to hear his own voice. I got that loud and clear.

I really want to mark this date down because this is the first time you have EVER not taken the opportunity to chastise an anonymous poster and make your case for using real names.....what gives?

Ohhhhhhh........yeahhhhh....sorry .....as I was sitting here typing and ready to hit send..... I just remembered your love of Russ.....   Sometimes it takes me a minute to figure things out.

Sometimes you should just hit send rather than over analysing things you think you know everything about.  The night of the last Green and White Club function at Abrio's, Russ and i had a long and in depth personal private conversation.  I was able to state my feelings and he his.  It's amazing when you have a face to face conversation with someone how much it clarifies things and brings a greater understanding to the situation for all parties involved.

After reading this quote from your post one could infer that you feel the same way as the original poster - it's a very tricky but effective rhetorical tool that politicians have used for years.

Thanks Danny! I needed a new picture for my dart board. Not the "let's get ready to rumble" guy, either.

My only contribution to this thread is to state that, like Alan, I had a chance this fall to have a nice face-to-face conversation with Russell and afterwards I have a much better appreciation for the man -- and the broadcaster.  After this conversation I came to realize that what you hear on the air is the Real Eisenstein and that he is just "being himself."  Prior to this discussion I thought there was a "big act" going on with the what are we wearing stuff and some of the "chatter" that he and Rob engage in during game broadcasts.  I may not be expressing this well, but that conversation completely changed my perception of our sports announcer.  I always thought that he did a good job of play-by-play but I did have a little issue with some of the other "extraneous stuff."  I now put it in a different perspective. Perhaps, Danny's Knee, should give Russell a call!

I am happy for you Alan. Glad you now have got a good relationship and have come to see him in a better light. .  Over the years you have been pretty critical of Russ from his wearing of cream suits in December to his need to be seen.  As for not knowing..... you are right ....there is no way I could have known you have decided to abandon previous predjudices that include....

Our guy is way too self-absorbed.    The NIU play by play guy was just fine.  The color guy left a bit to be desired.  Match Rob with their play by play guy and you have a winning combination.

for the record the OP
had started a similar thread when he was Ron Harper
www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/topic.asp

Given that he pretty much attacked Russ personally in the previous thread...My opinion was that it was easy to see the direction this was heading
